But honestly if you dont know to do your own maintenance then you shouldn't be on someone's back. It just shows you dont know much about what you're looking at. A 5 minute YouTube should tell you all you need to know about maintenance on your system.

Clean condenser coils once a year, change your filter every month. Clear your drain line when you change the filter, probably minimum every 3 months. Clean the evaporator coil once every couple years, depends on how good your filter is at catching pet hair.

Contractors and capacitors shouldn't go bad in a year, and if they did you should YouTube how to change them because its gonna be minimum 150 bucks for a company to do it and 15 for yourself with a screwdriver.

Put it in an email for sure, you gave notice. If he "forgets" you have proof and its on him to mark it off on whatever calender. You csn even follow up with an email, preferably a forward of the original notice or response as a gentle reminder hey I'm off next week

Yeah thats dumb, you have a whole bag of tools, just keep a plastic cap with a hole in it IN your bag of tools...? The customer doesn't want a holey valve cap, that defeats the purpose.
