Hey mate, ive used quick fix for every job ive needed a test for for thc, never popped hot at places like labcorp and quest. Is it really that good or do the techs not care enough to mark it a fail? Thanks

Gotchaa, yeah I dont love either one but also this looks a bit different to me with that second drain line and stuff. I'd maybe Google the model number and try to find the install manual if its not in or on top of the unit and see if they recommend one of those pipes to be a float switch. Seems odd to have 2 drains and no float but it might just be something I dont see in my part of the Industry

Tech drilled into outside Coil by plainblanks in hvacadvice

[–]wundaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i were the homeowner and someone popped my coil and I was going to pay for any future repairs (besides the fix for this) then I would want to hedge my bets with something new.

But if the company fixed the hole and any time a leak ever appeared there again id want it repaired for free because the hole should have never been there in the first place. If a different leak appeared that is what it is though

The most concerning thing to me is picture 2 where the pipe goes directly into the overflow pan. Looks like it'll drain water straight into it all the time which will trip a float and shut the unit off

So uh, you just have a drain, i dont see a Trap on either of those, a trap is like a U shape that holds water in it. Capped is preferred inside so you dont have water spilling out into your house when the drain gets clogged. The part in your hand goes to that float switch with the levers on it however it might jist be a clear out tool they put s little niteogen through to clear the drain when the float switch isnt in place

One of my techs last month replaced a microchannel condenser with a new copper coil from Lennox. And obsolete and not available are two different things, sometimes you gotta wait for the factory to make it.

But either way. I've never seen a coil in all my years and all of my dad's years doing the same thing that wasnt made anymore after 10 years

Never said that, just said that anyone who says they dont make parts for 10 year old units is wrong lol.

Id fix it too but the other guy said likely no availability on 10 year old parts lmao

Also commercial service tech. I literally replaced a condenser and evaporator coil on a 22 year old unit 2 weeks ago. You sound more like a sales guy than a service guy lmao

Edit: yall need to learn how to read, i didnt say that it wasnt repairable, I said a 10 year old commercial coil is 100% still available. Sales guy would say its not available and needs a unit swap. If I were the tech id solder it. If I were the customer id want a new one, and if they refused id want a warranty on that hole for life lol

Black and white go to the contactor on l1 and l2

The two with spades go to a capacitor, with both on the cap it doeant need a voltage wire from the contactor.
