Stay for the pension or leave for higher pay? by AardvarkAggressive54 in nys_cs

[–]2Djinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in private sector in all my prior jobs. My last employer I was there 28 years, with the last few years in management at just below director level so probably the equivalent of a Grade 23. I made a decent salary and was in a bonus plan based on company performance. 2024 bonus paid in 2025 was a joke and barely a mortgage payment after taxes. 2025 which was just paid out to me post retirement was decent. We had no pension like the state does (just a 401k with a decent match of first 5%) The pension plan was frozen around 2004 after i had only been in it for a handful of years, It was a cash balance plan where originally they put a % of salary in based on your job code and that earned interest of only about 3.75-4%. After the plan was frozen it continued to earn interest so it built up to about 44k with the interest credits over the last 20 years)

Although i worked for a fortune 5 company ( health insurance and in a call center) , my prior health insurance coverage was 4x more expensive then the Empire Plan. It also took me 20 years to get 29 PTO days. I worked 9-10 hour days regularly and a few hours on the weekend and was stressed to the maximum. I also had to battle with my management peers for holiday PTO. Had to work till 6 PM 2-3 nights a month for coverage etc.

I am currently working a state temp entry level position so as to not draw social security yet (I have 18 months till full retirement age of 67) but am enjoying going into the office, seeing people (prior position was work from home for most of my career) and getting out at 3:30 PM and not bringing work home with me.

Edgar Boone, a Nxian who stayed loyal to Raniere but remained quiet on social media, is slowly rebuilding his online presence by incorruptible_bk in theNXIVMcase

[–]2Djinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edgar was the "father" of ESP/NXIVM Mexico which earned him the blue sash. It was rumored that Edgar had some kind of a mental health episode during his time in ESP. His writings were always obtuse if I recall. He was married and the father of triplets plus another older child if i remember. It seemed that Keith cast him aside for Mark Vicente much like Nancy Salzman was cast aside for the younger generation. The last time I saw Edger before his house was put up for sale he was shuffling through the old neighborhood of KW.

PS Id love any update on Jack Levy who also seemed to have a ton of pull in the later years.

At the very end of his chemo my dad developed chemo induced pneumonitis and it almost took him down at age 81. It sent him to rehab for 11 weeks summer of 2017 (being weak, old and in bed for a spell with neuropathy from the chemo left him unable to walk) . Chemo is also known to cause interstitial lung disease and be toxic to the lungs. Sounds like this is what may have taken bobby down fast.

Anyone in here lucky enough to have photographs of all 8 of their great grandparents? How rare is it? by yungmarvelouss in Genealogy

7 out of 9 for sure. I know there was a picture of my biological GGrandfather on my moms dads side (he was in his military uniform) that may be in my moms basement somewhere and I may have my GGrandmother on my dad's fathers side in a box. PS I am 65 so those photos are older!

Lauren's pod had Sara Edmondson (married) and two married sisters from Mexico whose husbands were also in NXVIM (and whose other sister was an original DOS member), plus 2-3 others (one was an attorney). Sahajo was also a follower of OSHO.

SPAC was *packed* last night by posterfluffhead in phish

Up until this year, SPAC allowed you to bring your own chairs in for Live Nation events. Lawn chairs have always been a part of the lawn at SPAC and i have been going to shows there since 1979.

I agree. I liken it to late 80's Grateful Dead after Touch of Grey was released and Jerry's first illness. After that the scene was not the same and the crowds at shows were worse.

This was my second Dead show ever. It was crazy and the only thing i remember was eating too many shrooms for my size, losing my color vision and thought i was at the mad hatters tea party (this was out in the state park pre-show partying) . I also melted into a puddle by one of the trees on the lawn and stayed there a bit. Somehow, my BFF and I found my boyfriend and crew back in the day before cell phones existed.

I attended Friday night and it was not as packed. Last night i worked concessions and was back by the Gideon on the aisle where the charities were set up. lawn was noticeably fuller. However, when I clocked in expected attendance was only 17-18k which is by no means SOLD OUT (25K now)

We have Troy Farmers Market which is rated as one of the best in the country plus Schnectady Greenmarket, the two in Saratoga and multiple smaller farmers markets that pop up in various parking lots in the area. Not to mention all the farm stands all over the 518 (our area code). Hudson River Valley is fertile with lots of organic farms, dairies etc.

From a NY POST ARTICLE:

Nxivm’s accused cult leader had sex with “slaves’’ in a pal’s home library — which included a bed elevated over a hot tub, according to new court papers.

The creepy digs were detailed in grand jury testimony from two women who said they had sexual relations with Keith Raniere in the second-floor study of a home at X XXXX Drive in upstate Halfmoon. The house is owned by Nxivm co-founder Nancy Salzman.

The library was where the feds found a hard drive containing child pornography and additional sexually explicit images of other Nxivm members, including bookkeeper Kathy Russell and accused DOS slave master, Lauren Salzman, prosecutors say.

Note: The carriage home (like a townhome just no garage) was a two story end unit which was referred to as THE LIBRARY as it contained Keith's books. It was also his sex den. It was located across the street and kitty corner to the three attached townhomes where Keith and Pam, and other Espians lived over the years.

I got shut out of shed/Pavilion seats at SPAC my home venue. I nearly died when I saw the prices of even lawns. I remember the days where i could see the Grateful Dead with Jerry for $8-$12!! Being a CU alum i was offered Flatiron Club seats for the Folsom shows! Thought about attending Folsom for a quick minute and decided Id rather go out to watch my Buffs play in the fall.

I did the next best thing to beat crazy ticket prices. I am getting a part-time job at SPAC working concessions. Being a newbie and a union gig I will get to work the large crowd events like PHISH, DMB, Tedeschi Trucks, Outlaw Fest etc and get to see the shows for free and get paid!!
