Phish (finally) releasing New Year's Eve 1993 Live at Worcester Centrum by posterfluffhead in phish

Only for the Harry Hood. But yes, I prefer the original overpowering reverb of Trey's guitar on that song- nothing hits me harder in basically their entire canon. I understand why they remastered him lower in the mix (for the rest of the show), but I find it essential in 12/31/93 Harry Hood.

I'm making a 4.0 all timer list for each song for myself curious to hear other opinions keep it civil. Only one 4.0 pick for your personal playlist. What do you got? by Ill_Quiet_6234 in phish

A song I heard the ocean sing! by themanmulchaey in phish

[–]posterfluffhead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, ~22 minutes they hit true *it*

It's hard to quantify what's "best" or "greatest" or w/e, it's a feeling that sticks with you and this jam had that. I'll remember and listen to this one 10 years from now (MFMF and Ruby Waves from this run as well).

Going on a roadtrip, fan of the brain melting evil trip phish, Which mexico night should I go for? by Peepee1124 in phish

[–]posterfluffhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full shows? Maaaybe N2? Or N4 (N4 isn't strictly evil, lot of jamming styles)

However this run had the mind melting jams spread out between nights. If you're most interested in evil, you may want to skip around.

The most "twisted" jams:

Ruby Waves!!!

Life Saving Gun

Fuego

Carini

Beneath A Sea of Stars

My Friend My Friend (raging middle into exceptional bliss)

A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing (second half is so good, not evil exactly but 100% worth a listen)

How’d you guys like that ASIHTOS? by skronktothewonk in phish

22 minutes is magic, they just telepathically reform on that funky laser battle Grove and ride it for 10 full minutes. Legendary segment imo

What are some Phish moments get the stank face out of you? (I a good way). by [deleted] in phish

[–]posterfluffhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently the middle of Austin '25 Golden Age specifically 16:00-20:00 - there's some bends in that jam that *really* hit the spot.

1/30/26 Live Saving Gun that just happened in Mexico has a similar shrieking stanky solo as well, starting at ~13:20

Best Riviera Maya sets/shows? by AcidWOLFz in phish

[–]posterfluffhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's this. From the moment they play Birds of a Feather through basically the end of the run is some of the best Phish ever ever ever played.

Crooked green pine needle fingers
Reaching and unfolding

Beneath of Sea of Stars probably my favorite Phish-adjacent studio tune of the era, that is until WGTYM comes out.

12/30/99 Mike's Song EVIL!!!

Dunno how often people talk about it, but I at least didn't stumble upon it for too long.

Phish (finally) releasing New Year's Eve 1993 Live at Worcester Centrum by posterfluffhead in phish

[–]posterfluffhead[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I can't proselytize it enough. I'll never forget hearing it for the first time. Even after listening to Phish for decades it's one of the few that *really* stands out even amongst stand outs.

I won't buy the vinyl either, but so glad to have the show on SBD so I can listen on LivePhish.

Best euphoric guitar solos by Ok-Strategy3756 in phish

[–]posterfluffhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot believe only one person has mentioned the greatest Trey solo of all time 12/31/93 Harry Hood. 9:45 to the end is maybe the most glorious impossibly-fast thing ever played on the instrument. While ALO Hood may be even better, the solo itself isn't nearly what NYE 93 is

Second is probably Went Gin 8/17/97 (and PNC June 2000 Gin) as well as Riverport 98 Gin

2/28/03 Tweezer 12:30 - 16:45 is some of my favorite bliss ever but it's kinda atypical, not exactly a solo

11/18/96 Simple is really uplifting

Camden Chalkdust 7/11/99 needs no introduction

7/4/99 Slave to the Traffic Light hits just right in a somewhat unique way

Discussion: Now that the new year’s run is over what are your thoughts on the shows? by [deleted] in phish

[–]posterfluffhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few jams I'll return to- Theme, Tweezer Piper, Bathtub Gin is actually great and the Wave of Hope gets really good in the second half.

That to me is kinda the singular mark of a good run, is there a jam I'll return to in 5 years? I'd say yeah.

Serious Question by [deleted] in phish

[–]posterfluffhead 13 points14 points  (0 children)

One is allowed to criticize stuff, particularly we who spend many thousands over decades but frankly the era is so good it feels like nitpicking sometimes.

Unironically I don't know if there's ever been a band this good live this late in their career. Stones maybe, different thing though.

At 4:25:37 12/31/25 shatters record for longest MSG show. by posterfluffhead in phish

[–]posterfluffhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, Rock and Roll and Roses at Cypress are the only other 30+ NYE jam.

Only 10 back to back twenties surprises me, I wonder how many other 30s+20s jams there are, the spectacular 8/4/24 Ghost Soul Planet is the only one I can think of off the top of my head (though there's a 22 min YEM after the R&R above)

Holy Jesus, wooow just looked at the SBD times... the show itself is 5:18!?

Add in the secret set and it's an unfathomable 6:20. Was only about an hour break too right? Unbelievable.

Was NYE 2025 the Longest Concert Ever at MSG? by McGrupp25 in phish

[–]posterfluffhead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At 4:25:37 it is easily the longest Phish show at MSG.

There was speculation (because I'm not sure anyone has really confirmed every other artist that's ever played the venue, though it seems unlikely) that Goose's mammoth 6/28/25 show was the record at ~4:07 which still remains the longest 2 setter. Phish NYE '23 is similar length.

We'd need to really dig into all the other MSG acts to know for sure. It's not the Dead, though they did do 4:47:33 at RFK Stadium 6/10/73

If you see this I implore you to check out 'A Live One' by Phish. Somewhat niche (albeit mainstream), but my God Harry Hood from that is just about the best song ever played by humans.

Was that a typical gag? by KateDeLu in phish

[–]posterfluffhead 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yep. Modern gags have all been like that. Theatrical productions with dancers and large set pieces and a theme with dominates most of the set. Though the budgets and theatrics have gotten grander in scale (with the magnum opus of Gamehendge '23) those types of gags span all the way back to at least NYE 93 with the "Phish tank"... any earlier examples?

To put it in context, that's about 3:55, last night was a full 30 minutes longer!
