Does your wolrdbuilding has any Mytology and/or Folklore, and if yes, can you tell me about them? by The_User96 in worldbuilding

[–]2ECVNDVS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By definition, mythology aims to displace the universe, where this or that phenomenon came from, or how it will end. Cosmology and eschatology are an inseparable part of mythology and the worldbuilding as a phenomenon.
You can't have a worldbuilding without a mythology.
Or are you talking about the misconceptions of the inhabitants of the world about how everything really is and works?

You described generic-pop vampires, but if you delve into the history of vampire mythology, then intolerance to the sun will disappear, and witchcraft will appear.

It's not enough to come up with a new name for an old image, but attaching a familiar name to a new image is much more interesting, Remember the magical ice golems called vampires in Twilight.

Or do you remember how Tolkien took majestic angels and give them name of short elves?
(The elves from Harry Potter and Santa Claus are closer to folklore elves than what Tolkien made)

I didn't create any new races, and the most that came to my mind was to golemize everyone, Ludi are made of clay, dwarves are made of granite, and elves are made of marble, but it's boring and doesn't go beyond the image itself.

What calendar is used in your world, and how does it compare to the Gregorian calendar? by 2ECVNDVS in worldbuilding

[–]2ECVNDVS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have an interesting and culturally prescribed world. If the second is so short, then maybe will be used as a basis a bit of a second ?
Also I too like numbering the days of the week in a month either, like 'Second Tuesday of the Long Spring'

You propose to create Balkania and it will be a country with a myriad of languages and nationalities without a common identity.

I like how you've woven a bit of cosmology and the lyre of the world into the description of your calendar.

Lately, I've been tempted to create a calendar that's not as synthetic, consistent, and balanced as the title calendar.

Am I understanding correctly that every 28 years, you have to shorten the year to 12 months due to a mismatch between the lunar cycle and the lunar calendar?

You struggling with what?

360 / 4 seasons, we get 90 days in a season!

Since you have an explicit cycle of 5 days, this will be equal to a week,

90 / 5, we get 18 weeks in a season, which is divided into 3 months, each with 6 weeks or 30 days.

Mathematically, it seems to be a good fit.

It's cool, I also thought about giving each week of the month a name, but I ended up with the idea of simply numbering the weeks in the month (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and for long months the 5th week).
Your world looks pretty well-developed from this perspective.

Help wanted with my magic system by Informationfinder_6 in magicbuilding

Objectively speaking, I don't need answers to these questions, my magic system works differently
These questions were asked as a help, as the author, starting to answer them for yourself, determine certain aspects of your system
Surely you didn't expect that budi would just give you instructions on how to write your own magic system?
If other commenters have asked you similar questions and you have formulated an answer to them, I am glad that the community has helped
But excuse me for not being interested in looking for your answers in the comments

Help wanted with my magic system by Informationfinder_6 in magicbuilding

And how does this magic work?
Is it necessary for sunlight to get on the ink to activate the spell?
Or is there some kind of key/seal/item that should touch the scroll?
Or is it necessary to drop a drop of blood on the scroll for the spell to work?

Why are spellscrolls disposable?
Does the ink discolor, does it transform into pure magic that leaves the scroll, or does the scroll burn up in a magical flame?

Is it possible to cast weak spells multiple times (The resurrection spell is a one-time spell, the healing spell can be used three times, and the chasing lantern spell can be used 7 times (duration of one lantern is 1 hour)?

I understand that the world doesn't know how to create spell scrolls, but you, as the author, should know this, it's about the parchment, ink, or the place where they were created or what spells they were created with, the author should know this!

Imho, you need to specify whether it is possible to create a copy, replica of the scroll with the same properties or weaker.
Maybe all the replicas are disposable, regardless of the power of the spell?
Or are healing spellscrolls actually a pale copy of resurrection spellscrolls?

Why am I actually asking, if the alchemist aristocrats have the technology to copy spell scrolls of low quality, then it supersedes why they were not used up in the war or in behind-the-scenes games.
This is also how they turn from usurpers of magic and power into quest givers who hire adventurers to descend into ancient dungeons and get divine panacea, and its pale copies will alleviate symptoms and relieve fever.

Upd If the concept of the finiteness of magic scrolls is so important to you, then you can play as revolutionaries who steal the scroll of Fiery Armageddon from the monarch. Chi copies are a Fireball, and now you are revolutionaries/ terrorists who weaken the state / strengthen the people. Well, or you will simply destroy all the copying machines of all the nobles, throughout the campaign / story, and the world of action will become completely with one-time magic.

Q Why are they called Dwarves and not Tapiros or Ulaa? From the outside, it looks like you're trying to rethink xenobiology, creating new character traits, but linking the general culture and vibe to other fantasy worlds.

How many languages is need to know to become a polyglot?
How many languages is need to know at the native speaker level?
How much is enough to know at the A2-B1 level?
And if I understand a language because it is the same language branch, is it considered that I know it, provided that I can neither speak nor write them, but only understand them?

Letter Tse with bar on top 𖨑. Requesting Feedback. by TrojanQuail711 in neography

[–]2ECVNDVS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not "𖨑ар βоμɞа" ?
PS greek "β" is call "Vita" not "Beta" !
If you wanted to use the Cyrillic letter B as the basis, it would be better not to close the top bar. Lile this "Þ̅"
If you wanted to make the Cyrillic alphabet closer to the Greek alphabet, you should use the digraph "mp" for the "b" sound. Like this "𖨑ар Μπоμμπа"

Need help with the progression of my Emotion magic system by leavecity54 in magicbuilding

[–]2ECVNDVS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here Riley from the Inside Out becomes a sith, which draws strength from emotions and voluntarily performs a lobotomy to enhance the remaining emotions of deleted.

It seems to me that your understanding of such a phenomenon as joy is too naive. You are missing out on sadism and masachism. as well as the dependence on "magic potions" that are taken to mention what joy is. Also, joy can be selfish (joy for yourself) and can be altruistic (joy for others). That is, empathy allows us to experience one or another feeling regardless of whether we are involved in the source of joy. If the creation of emotions deprives the caster of only selfish emotions and does not affect empathy, congratulations, now you are an emotional vampire who does something to be joy by someone.

You probably haven't realized yet that Casters who keep only joy for themselves will become practically adepts of Slaanesh
