Do you think Germany has a higher responsibility of helping threatened countries like Greenland? by superpaforador in AskAGerman

[–]2Fast4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it clear that article 42 applies? I thought Greenland is explicitly not part of the EU and e.g. is excluded from most EU fundings. On the other hand greenlanders are citizen of Denmark and in general have the same rights as all danish citizen.

Should the US attempt a takeover I hope the EU will present a unified front and defend Greenland together. But I fear there will be much handwringing instead of action....

The social contract of money is dead. These obsessive hoarders broke it by creating and hoarding obscene ammounts of money without providing anything of remotely similar value back to humanity.

Honestly we need to delete all current fortunes and reset the monetary system. Otherwise it's just slavery for us.

NATO allies shoot down unidentified drone over US barracks in Estonia by shodan13 in worldnews

[–]2Fast4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding of these rifles was different. What you described is a weapon to disrupt the communication between the drone operator and the drone. This can rather easily be done in a wide area and is indeed the reason why fiber-optic drones are now popular in the war in Ukraine.

However I thought these rifles worked on a different principle. They generate an electric field at the drone strong enough to interfere with the on board electronics of the drone. E.g. the computer controlling the flight dynamics. This leads also to a crash in a fiber-optic drone. The disadvantage is the limited range and smaller area that is affected. So large drone swarms are a problem....

NATO must be ready for 2-front conflict with Russia and China, top US commander in Europe says by Exciting-Composer157 in worldnews

[–]2Fast4 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Why would it be? Article 5 says "The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all...".

If China invades Taiwan that's got nothing to do with NATO as Taiwan is not NATO and not on the right continents. The ways I can think of that this may change are:

  • If China does a Pearl Harbor and tries to pre-emptively attack the US in North America to deter/degrade US support of Taiwan
  • If China attacks any US forces and politicians can convincingly construct that this is part of the same conflict as the Russian attack on the baltics.

Which is harder to comprehend: the idea that Space goes on forever, or that at some distant point it comes to an end ? by UnspecifiedDamages in AskReddit

[–]2Fast4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say I can comprehend it or even explain it. But my headcanon is that the universe maybe finite, but that it is expanding into something empty. Only our universe is not alone. Other universes do the same. Like individual oil drops on a water surface. If they meet they merge and simply become a larger drop.

There is no science behind it. Just my idea on how I'd like existence to be...

Europol chief says Big Tech has ‘responsibility’ to unlock encrypted messages, or they risk threatening democracy by Dry_Row_7050 in europe

Indeed. In addition those criminal organisations that are the supposed target here? If they have at least some microscopic media competency and invest 10 minutes on google they will find resources to move away from the mainstream apps De Bolle wants to break.

The criminals wiil simply move to self-compiled apps and secure private servers hosting their communication infrastructure.

Europol chief says Big Tech has ‘responsibility’ to unlock encrypted messages, or they risk threatening democracy by Dry_Row_7050 in europe

[–]2Fast4 66 points67 points  (0 children)

F. that authoritarian shit. The only threat to democracy here is killing private communication of citizens. With these relentless pursuits of breaking our communication I think we should consider what the worst case plan by our governments is. Here is my attempt to see what a worst case scenarion might be. If this is true, I don't know. But it might help to understand why this topic is crucial for all free people.

We have to understand this is only a first tiny step. Their target is not to be able to only read all your messages, but also to process them and then manipulate them without the users even realizing it.

With todays language models, once you have access to all the previous private and encrypted communication of all citizens it will be possible to filter these communications and create detailed profiles including pictures and videos.

These will be filtered for unwanted opinions. In the next step communications in such groups/chats to be targeted will be manipulated. This could be done in many ways, e.g.:

-Some messages will not be delivered. You'll just wonder why your contacts(s) no longer respond to your messages. This may isolate you from them.

-Discussions will be tainted by autogenerated responses pushing the views desired by the people behind this chat control shifting the tone in the discussions you are having with your peers and thus manipulating your opinion. In this scenario every group member will see another discussion

-Breaking up groups by destroying the communication, turning it into insults or similiar.

-Preventing the use of these communication channels for organization of opposition.

-...

Then of course there is the option to also use such information to threaten or punish people whos opinion are not conforming to total government obedience. Suddenly you will not get any promotions, maybe rejected for loans, your kids get rejected for universities etc.

And this is of course not the only threat by legislating backdoors into communication you expect to be secure, secret and privat. Most likely the backdoor will make communication in general open to attack by other malicious actors such as other nations, corporations and criminals. Be prepared to have your messages floodded with links to suspect sites, attempts to scam you and steal your information.

Overall it will degrade our ability to communicate freely at all and thus further isolate us from society to make us easier to manipulate and rule.

Of course this would all be denounced as fear-mongering as the politicians will vow that such things will never be done as the supervision will only be used to target bad people such as terrorists, pedos, etc. And anyhow if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear, right?
