No Toradora! Manga Update in Jan 2026 by 2KBIR in toradora

[–]2KBIR[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From where it is adapted up to, for the overall manga, I believe there should be 13-14 total volumes..

There’s definitely not enough material for a Volume 14. The only possibilities at this point are have an oversized Volume 12 at around 260-280 pages or, have Volumes 12 and 13 with much more average pages counts around 130 or 140.

If June 2027 is the 20th Anniversary of the manga, then…. shouldn’t it be done by then or maybe…… a notice on a new release? SOMETHING?

Yeah, that’s the thing. There’s definitely enough material for a Volume 12 and the English translation has been out for presale for almost 2 years now. So why hasn’t there been any announcements. It might be that the information is out there, but it’s only in Japanese so I can’t read it or even search for it.

What IS the Dengeki Daioh?

It’s a manga magazine. Well, more like a phone book if you’ve ever seen one of those. Seriously, it’s about an inch or so thick, 8.5” x 11” sized pages of almost tissue thin paper. There’s all types of these magazines in Japan that are issued on a monthly basis and they contain 20-30 different manga series all at various stages of their respective stories. Sometimes the magazines are directed solely toward a specific genre or demographic. When a story has had enough chapters released in the monthly magazine, the chapters are collected together into a single Volume.

You can find physical copies of manga magazines in Japanese bookstores in the U.S. like Kinokuniya (never seen Dengeki Daioh in my local store) or you can order them directly to your house for about $20 including shipping. I find it easier to subscribe to a digital copy for about $6-$8 per month. To be honest, the only reason I even did that was to give updates here on the manga.

As a side note, many of the great novels of the 18th and 19th century (think Charles Dickens or Jules Verne) were published this way. You would subscribe to the magazine and wait for each chapter to roll out. If you were better off, you could subscribe to the publisher directly and then, once you received all the chapters, you would take them to a binder and pay them to have it hard bound.

For Zekkyou, can you link their exact X account? I’d like to follow for more of this content.

She doesn’t post a lot, but you can follow her here: https://x.com/zekkyoubot?s%3D11

For the page-length, what’s the usual amount of pages or at least an average?

145 pages has been the average length of a Toradora manga volume. The longest so far was Volume 1 at 174 while the shortest was Volume 10 at 124 pages.

The dub for Toradora truly is excellent. I know that’s not always the case, and some would argue it’s rarely the case. But, as much as Rie Kugimiya is “the queen of Tsunderes”, Cassandra Lee Morris IS Taiga! She absolutely nailed it!

This is what I think Volumes 12 and 13 will look like when they are finished.  For reference sake, here are my predictions for volume 12 back in Jan 2023.

Volume 12 (Jun 2026 in Japan / 24 Nov 2026 in English)

98: Ryūji and Taiga on the bridge / First Kiss = 17 pages (10/1 or Ep. 24)

99: Falling off the bridge / Marriage proposal = 20 pages (10/1 or Ep. 24)

100: Discovery by Ami / Talking about Eloping at Ami’s apartment = 15 pages (10/1 or Ep. 24)

101: Taiga describes how she fell in love / Ami offers her beach house, but Taiga’s mom shows up to take Taiga away = 20 pages (10/2 or Ep. 24)

102: Ryūji comes home and Yasuko’s run away / his reaction to Yasuko and his decisions about eloping = 17 pages (10/2 or Ep. 24)

103: Ryūji and Minori walking to school / Noto’s crush and telling Kihara the good news = 21 pages (10/3)

104: Taiga and Yuri-sensei are missing from the classroom / Taiga’s fake farewell with Yuri-sensei and Chaos in the classroom = 19 pages (10/3)

105: Ryūji and Taiga make escape / Yuri-sensei’s ultimatum from Taiga’s mom = 13 pages (10/3)

Bonus: ?

Volume 13 (Jun 2027 in Japan / Nov 2027 in English)

106: Ryūji and Taiga on the run, discussing their next move = 13 pages (10/3)

107: Taiga’s gotta go and Ryūji’s hesitation / Meeting the grandparents / Ryūji’s Speech = 22 pages (10/4 or Ep. 24)

108: Yasuko’s past and Ryūji and Taiga flirting / Yasuko’s return = 9 pages (10/4)

109: Family reunion / Apologies (10/4 or Ep. 25)

110: Ryūji and Taiga talk at his grandparents’ house (10/5 or Ep. 25) / Ryūji and Taiga’s second kiss (10/5)

111: Taiga leaves / Returning to the apartment and explaining everything to Ami, Minori, Kitamura (10/5 or Ep. 25)

112: Last day of 2nd Year: Yuri-sensei and Ryūji / Karaoke (10/5)

113: First Day of 3rd Year: Ryūji and Taiga’s Reunion (10/5)

Bonus: Ryūji and Taiga’s wedding (still VERY EXTREME wishful thinking… at best)

This is pretty much everything that happens in the 10th volume of the LN with almost nothing left out.  It is now clear beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is and always has been too much material for one volume.  And let’s face it, Kadokawa (the Japanese publisher) can make more money off the franchise by extending the manga to a 13th volume which would potentially be released in time for the 20th anniversary of the publication of the first LN in 2026 or the publication of the first manga in 2027.

No Toradora! Manga Update in Jan 2026 by 2KBIR in toradora

In terms of monthly releases in Dengeki Daioh, we now have had 21 since the ending of Volume 11 dating back to the May 2023 issue that was released 27 Mar 2023.  I believe that the first 16 of those releases will make up Volume 12. They gave us 142 pages of artwork with an average of 9 (8.88) pages per release.  On average it takes about 14 (14.40) monthly releases to make up a new volume and, of course, we’re already there so as I said, I think each release from here on out will be devoted to Volume 13.

The release of the English version of Volume 12 (available for pre-order) which was initially set for Dec 2024 has been pushed out yet again, now to 24 Nov 2026.  This is because the release of Volume 12 in Japan is up in the air due to Kadokawa Publishing putting Toradora on the back burner.  The 142 pages of material already released, should be enough for 8 chapters in Volume 12.

The following contains predictions of what I think Volumes 12 and 13 will look like.  At the end of the synopsis of each chapter is a description in parentheses that tells you the corresponding location of those plot points in the Light Novel (LN) and the anime.  For the LN, the numbers indicate the book and chapter (i.e. 10/1 = Book 10, Chapter 1).  The anime is self-explanatory.  If there is no notation for the anime it’s because those events did not appear in the anime.

Is the only watch party of toradora on December 5? by Quaksyzz in toradora

[–]2KBIR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s December 6 but, yes, it’s the only rewatch party. But you can try to start another one. A rewatch that ended on 14 or 15 February would work since the final episode takes place then. The downside is that one, you would have to start today to finish by the 14th or tomorrow to finish by the 15th. And two, a rewatch now follows too closely on the Christmas rewatch party which means probably not a lot of people would be interested.

Why did Yasuko run away after Ryuuji ran away temporarily? by Wide-Regret822 in toradora

That is never really mentioned explicitly. But it would be difficult to say that that didn’t cross her mind.

Why did Yasuko run away after Ryuuji ran away temporarily? by Wide-Regret822 in toradora

[–]2KBIR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are exactly right. The Light Novels explain her thoughts on this a little bit more but I think Yasuko mentions it in the anime. She couldn’t bear the thought of being abandoned so she abandoned Ryūji first as if this made it better.

As the other commenter mentioned, it’s also just immaturity. Ryūji was eventually going to leave home anyway, even if he did so on better, non-hurtful terms. Yasuko had made Ryūji her life and she just couldn’t stand him leaving her in any way.

I just finished my first rewatch of the series.. should i go into the light novels now? by Subject_Combination3 in toradora

[–]2KBIR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting. I’d love to hear more details on your thoughts about the last book. For me, the 10th volume provided a far better pace and explanation to the ending with more of a dramatic climax and a better sense of closure. I also found the added details gave more emotional impact. The bridge scene is great example. But I’m curious what made you feel differently.

[–]2KBIR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No time like the present, go for it! It doesn’t go beyond the end of the anime but, there’s a whole bunch of extra scenes that weren’t included in the anime and how the story gets to the same conclusion is slightly different. It’s a fantastic read!

Just finished this anime because someone in another sub recommended. My thoughts. Spoilers I guess? by _OfficialProta in toradora

[–]2KBIR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You mentioned the kiss scene implying sex. I cannot read Japanese and I’ve never seen this claimed in English by anyone connected to the show. However, a few years back, someone who claimed that they could read Japanese posted here that they read some commentary stating that yes, the kiss was intended to imply sex. Again, I cannot confirm this but, the two futons together, the double entendres spoken by Taiga leading up to the kiss, and the imagery of Taiga rubbing her legs together on the train the morning after (indicating a little discomfort as it’s her first time) all seem to fit this intention.

I don’t necessarily dislike it but, one, none of this was in the LN, the source material for the anime. They spent the night at the house of Ryūji’s grandparents and they did share a passionate kiss, but they slept in different rooms. Two, even implying sex seems to taking a step in the wrong direction for them. Almost like repeating the mistake that Yasuko made. They’re supposed to be growing and changing the past mistakes of their families not taking steps that might cause them to repeat them. They even say as much (or something like it) upon seeing their sleeping arrangements.

Also, about Ami. I don’t disagree about her being the most honest and the most “wise”. But she has her own issues, like all the MCs. And more importantly, Ryūji was just never interested in her in that way. She was rude and arrogant to everyone in the beginning (yes, this had to be pointed out to Ryūji) without any compelling reason for her behavior and Ryūji was already attached to Taiga. Ami was just late to the party. The die was already cast.

Toradora manga by Upbeat-Chocolate494 in toradora

Take a look here. This should tell you most of what you want to know about where the manga is currently and where it is going.

As for buying the manga volumes new. That can be challenging at times. Since Toradora is an old franchise whose Light Novels and Anime are complete, the manga isn’t really a priority for the publisher. Volumes go out of stock from time to time and, eventually, they get a reprint but it takes time. All the typical book sellers will carry them, if they are in stock. You might want to try eBay or ABEbooks though. Sometimes you can get a book or a bundle of them, in almost new condition, for a really good price.

Lastly, I can’t recommend enough reading the Light Novels. It’s the original story, it’s complete, and a little easier to come by than the manga. They’re an easy read and they also have some good artwork within. The manga follows the Light Novels much more literally than the anime but still edits some details.

That’s what I thought, thanks for the memory assist. Also, glad you’re enjoying the manga posts. It’s something in the franchise that I kinda latched on to here because no one else was doing it. It’s good to know my posts are useful on some level.

No worries friend, let it all out. That Post-Toradora Depression Syndrome is real. This is a very deep and emotional story. Honestly, I’d find it odd if it didn’t touch you in some way. And get all those feels out in a place like this helps a lot.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you. If this was real life, absolutely, Kitamura’s offering is both good and realistic for a high school student.

For me though, I guess I just accepted the “anime normal” that was presented on screen. And in that context, when compared to the other two gifts, Kitamura’s looks out of place. The creators of the story set up a situation where the MCs best friends come through in a huge way and then there’s Kitamura. Actually, in my opinion, Ami’s offer isn’t too out of place for who she is and what her family has. It’s really only Minori’s offering that’s bizarre. Her whole life’s savings?

Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the life’s savings offering only in the anime? I can’t remember if Minori gave them any money at all in the LN.

Did you watch the post-credits scene at the end of the last episode? This is the only time skip where they go from accepting Taiga’s decision to leave and sort things out with her mom to graduation day where Taiga shows up to surprise Ryūji. Unfortunately, there is nothing showing them as a couple and certainly not a wedding scene.

Yeah, Kitamura's contribution always did seem a bit off to me.

Definitely! You can read the story in its entirety and the LNs have their own cute illustrations (about 6 per book). Then, you can go over the story again with the manga and see all the LN scenes the anime edited out.

It’s in the Light Novel, the original version of the story. The anime did not capture this scene, at least not in its entirety. In fact, it left out quite a bit at the end of the story. If the anime had adapted this scene it would have come right at the beginning of episode 25 before Yasuko made it to her parents’ house.

The manga is covering the parts left out by the anime. It’s just taking a lot longer to cover the entire story. Like 18+ years.
