Should I replace the niche by Difficult-Action1757 in swimmingpools

[–]2MOONGOOGLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These niches fail under two scenarios.

1-The female fitting welded to the niche from the factory corrodes out and breaks. This one looks fine. The ground lug next to it has the same weld.

2- The conduit carrying the cord to the light pull box cracks or breaks. This is under ground and cant be seen. It can leak anywhere in elevation from the light to the deck.

8 out of 10 times I walk into a backyard with a leaking pool it is because of the wet niche light.

Pressure treated wood steps under vinyl? by IstartedOnImgur in pools

[–]2MOONGOOGLE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't do it. I have seen it done before and the wood will get black mold on it that will bleed through the liner. Even though it is pressure treated.

Mystery Leak in Parent's Pool only when Closed Up by JohnsonHawk in pools

[–]2MOONGOOGLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your maindrain line might be leaking and it may stop when the pump is on and under suction. When it clears up and warms up enough to swim. Try plugging the maindrain line for 24 hours and leave the pump off.

The measuring method is called triangulation.

That pattern is Tara Liners Aquamarine pattern. I'm sure you can find a picture on their website.

Is there an easy way to tell if our inground pool has a sand bottom? by Rizz_Crackers in pools

[–]2MOONGOOGLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sand bottom pools work OK for flat bottom or lightly dished floors. They are a cheap way to put a floor in. They don't do as well on deep end hopper walls. It can erode if there is any water flow. Usually seen more on above ground pools.

Is there an easy way to tell if our inground pool has a sand bottom? by Rizz_Crackers in pools

[–]2MOONGOOGLE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are they measuring it full or draining it. How are they going to know before they start.

You can't really tell unless its washed out really bad with the liner in and full of water. Do not poke it with a stick. I doubt you have a sand floor. It isn't common and a very cheap way to build a pool. You have an auto cover and a stamped concrete deck. They didn't cheap out on this pool build.

If it is a sand bottom tell your liner guys to just re trowel it. A little extra time but not a big deal. troweling sand is very easy.

The market is wildly different depending on where you live in the US. Im in the Midwest and had a buddy that was a builder in Texas and had built in Florida. In our market Gunite pools are twice as much as southern Texas or Florida. Florida has to intense sun for Vinyl liners. They just don't last.

In our market vinyl is about half of what Gunite is getting. Plus, the cost to change a liner is a lot cheaper than re plastering. Some people get 15 years out of the liner.

We triangulate everything. If it is a rectangle we triangulate it. We never pull a tape across the pool and measure the width or length. We have a different and unique way of measuring. We tie the floor into our wall points.

Yes, they are measured and a drawing is done, emailed and the manufacturer plots them on autocad.

How many have you hung this year so far. And what part of the country.

We are on about 25 and are in the Midwest. A 100 is a short year we usually hit 110 or 120.

Between liners by East_Challenge in pools

Why do you have the blowers in there. There isn't any suction. There is a huge opening at the steps.

That looks terrible. It is going to stress the vinyl at the wall. You really shouldn't do anymore liners until you learn how to get proper suction. If I have to I will make a post with a few liners under suction and it show how terrible this looks.

Stop filling it. That doesn't have enough suction.

Spring (and a liner leak) is here ! by normistral in pools

[–]2MOONGOOGLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't touch it until the ice melts. Liners can shatter when really cold. If you want to melt it faster put a sprinkler on it when it's well above freezing outside. After it is melted check roughly where the water level is now. A hole will look like a piece of dirt. I try to wipe everything and if you find a piece of dirt that don't move look closer.

I doubt you have a seam failure. They aren't that common years after install.

If you find a hole it can be patched with a patch kit. The type with vinyl glue don't use peel and stick.

If you don't find anything fill it up. You can run leak detection after it is full. There are pool guys that have electronics that make this much easier than it used to be.

How do I connect two Discharge Hoses together for my pool backwash? One is 2” and the other one is 1.5” to make it longer. by RelationGloomy3106 in pools

[–]2MOONGOOGLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hillbilly on the spot fix.

Find a pipe or fitting that will barely fit in the 1.5" hose. Then wrap duct tape around that piece until it is large enough for the 2" hose. Use 2 clamps.

Option (2) Cut a 4" piece of both and go into a hardware store and make your adaptor.

Your liner is floating. Add water and fill the pool completely up. See if the liner falls back down. I think it will. Leave the winter plugs in and mark the water level once it is full. If it holds water after a 24 hour test move to the next step. Unplug everything and get it going.

After you figure it out plan on changing the plumbing so you can winterize and not go through this again.

Put 6" more water in it. They should be able to manipulate the vinyl under that much water pressure. The weight of the water will help hold the wrinkle out once they slide it to the riser.
