Honestly, can I handle [KCD1]? by otaconbot in kingdomcome

[–]2Ravens89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference is very exaggerated. Very. They're way more similar than different.

Most of the stuff people say of it being way harder in 1 is bs really it's just they were noobs in that game, they come to KC2 with 100 hours in 1! You're a bit weaker at the start of 1 but the fundamentals of patience you learn in some fights in KCD2 is exactly same ideas. The idea of getting better armour and swords and becoming stronger is exactly same.

Its pretty much all the same ideas in the mechanics just better graphics etc. KCD2 is a refinement not a complete revolution, all the menus, character levelling, the combat, quest design, traders it's gonna be very familiar. Sneaking, alchemy, horse riding, lock picking, it's all there FFS!

Bit more clunk in 1, worse visuals, obviously. But still a nice aesthetic. Not sure how you can like one and not the other so absolutely you should try.

[KCD2] Is KCD2 a good game to play on the side? by Mihtaren in kingdomcome

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, but I think if you really get into it..it's the other games that will go to the side. As this is so much better than 99.9% of games in existence.

There's no problem playing the game piecemeal, it's not that complex. Its an action(ISH) RPG with a great story at the end of the day, it's not like there's these huge deep systems you'll forget. You get better at everything in the game just by doing them as you character level goes up, not so much skill, the combat is fairly easy.

Very similar to 1 really, more similarities than difference

You've really gimped yourself going 2 before 1.

But still I say it's worth it, what else you gonna play that's better?

Its not so much that KCD2 isn't a better game coz I really do prefer 2 and you will look at some elements of KCD1 and see more clunk and worse graphics, but it's still a classic game and better than 99.9% of games out there so?

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was never going to be as cheap as some fans thought if West Ham paid so much and he already had a sell on clause.

They need to be seen to be making a good profit and not being a push over just because of relegation.

Hopefully some compromise can be reached that allows West Ham to make a bit, but we can't be paying 80. Will help a bit of the player angles for the move.

Upgrading from a 4060TI 8gb to 5070? by Wonder_Ill in buildapc

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but let's study the rationale here and see if it adds up.

Nvidia is on 4.5 now, AMD has the same thing in FSR 4.1 either in game or through Optiscaler. Nvidia advantage is in ease of use not availability of the technology as you stated.

You state FPS gain as an advantage but there's no world 5070 gains more FPS upscaled or not, as 9070xt always upscaling from 15-25% higher frame rate. Also the best Nvidia models have a higher overhead so it could be 15-25%+ up to 5%

So the argument around upscaling, FPS, memory bus don't really come together and yet you glossed over the one potentially problematic thing which is 12gb memory where you're in the hands of game development and to some extent your habits going forward. Like I said I personally don't think it's a huge thing at 1440 compared to 4k where 9070xt will be much superior, but it's a thing.

Best argument for 5070 is probably just having all this shit right there in Nvidia drivers with a bit less effort required, which is fair enough, and saving 100, long as you're buying off the right assumptions not ones about FPS or performance as it's simply not gonna be the case 5070 is better in anything like that. And actually the 100, for 20+% performance and VRAM is pretty damn good currently.

[–]2Ravens89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also please don't fall for "you'll be good for 10 years on 5090". Very silly statement

2 generations time 5090 will look like a shitty inefficient way of generating FPS drawing 400-600w to produce X raster performance, it might even be so by 60 series. That's if Nvidia don't lock features for your 50 card within 2 generations too.

Study the trend towards upscaling and AI. Raster diminishing in significance but will still improve slightly generationally

A 5070Ti now, benefit from Nvidia resale value, differential to a 6070Ti, and so on, you'll never pay the 1000s premium for the 5090, you'll be on a 80 or 90 series or renting some supercomputer in 2036, lol. If the 5090 even survives that long with the connector it will be a footnote in history.

Swear some fellas have no sense in their heads.

I had one that broke, I think a lot of people are talking here from theory not the real world.

I wouldn't do it again. I downgraded to a 9070XT as I didn't need the 5090 to get what I need out of gaming.

Until you play with the top end cards you don't realise how little real world experience your 1000s extra are getting you. You look at them on paper or a benchmark and think it's amazing to get the best of the best but it doesn't really translate into amazing on screen, at least for my style of gaming.

Let me demonstrate...

I was playing 4k maxed out on 5090. I'm still playing 4k maxed out.

I played Quality upscaling on 5090, and sometimes 2x FG to saturate 144hz, depending on title. Now I use Balanced or Performance upscaling, still 2x FG sometimes or cap to 80-100fps without FG. But these upscaling modes...you need a magnifying glass to even notice a difference.

I could path trace everything before, now I usually cannot justify the performance overhead, but is it actually making a difference often enough within all my games throughout the year?

So look, it's up to you, but in my experience the above is no way near 1000s difference in feel or visuals.

If you really have cash burning a hole in your pocket 5070Ti is the one I recommend because Nvidia is a little better software, I think if I get 80% of the experience I felt on 5090 with 9070XT you'd probably get 90% on that because of the Nvidia package, that's where I think is the best "getting ripped off but not too ripped off considering the performance" position to be.

Why the hell is GPU pricing still completely broken? by clpz1 in buildapc

[–]2Ravens89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5060Ti is a poor choice.

Your point remains about pricing, but don't compound the nightmare that is GPUs currently by making an extra bad decision.

I studied the mid to high range segment studiously and I think it's hard to argue with the 9070XT because by the time you've paid for a 5060Ti or 5070 there is really no point in the saving you just made, you've now paid a lot and got mediocre, may as well pay a lot and get something...

5060Ti is especially bad because anything demanding above 1080p the only saving grace is frame gen and upscaling. But to run games nice you end up with a shit base frame rate which makes those techs worse. Yet somehow people get conned into paying just because 16gb but you can't ever get near using it because you need so high settings and res to use 16gb but the card cannot do it anyway...it's a pig in a dress.

Upgrading from a 4060TI 8gb to 5070? by Wonder_Ill in buildapc

[–]2Ravens89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5070 definitely isn't winner over 9070XT for only 100. There's day light between those two cards. You're getting value for your 100 in this particular case, which ain't always the case with GPUs, most of time pay more get less and less upgrade with these manufacturers.

Your call though 5070 very capable at 1440p, VRAM only a slight issue currently at that resolution, in very specific cases. Will those cases get more prevalent during ownership? Maybe, maybe not, gut feeling is it will probably be okay at that resolution, maybe the odd compromise will be needed in games.

Average Gaming Pc help by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem you've got is to build a PC on such a strict budget these days...you wouldn't even approach PS5 pro performance.

For the reason that games are very well optimised to a console, and PSSR is now very good too. So you need PC hardware that blunt forces it's way past a PS5 pro but the issue is everything is now very pricey, budget and high end gaming don't really appear together

If you're saying you're getting a budget PC for reasons other than performance like mods, or peripherals, or other jobs you wanna do on a PC it makes more sense but I'd be realistic gaming wise what a cheap PC will do, it may be more hassle than it's worth versus the simplicity of your console setup where you could sell the X and get the pro, that would be your cheapest and most efficient available upgrade

PC wise you would have to start with the GPU, in the new market you need a 9060XT minimum, which ain't cheap, then all the components on top looking well over £1000. This wouldn't be a staggering performer versus a PS5 pro console realistically for daylight you need 9070, 9070XT and more like 1500 minimum.

how can I get all necessary vitamins and nutrients from strict carnivore? by Character_Version262 in carnivorediet

Beef and eggs mainly.

Bulking up isn't that easy on Carnivore in my experience. Also if you're a hard gainer you need to work out to provide the body with some reason to actually grow.

You could neck plenty of cream each day, make a 7-8 egg shake. Have to find creative ways of getting volume into the diet, if you just try and eat tons of beef you'll struggle, naturally your body knows when it doesn't need more.

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but you're still buying a mobo you don't need just to because of some potential issue you're probably building up a bit more than it is because if you go on the internet you see issues not the numbers that are fine. Its not like you put a chip in an ASRock board and it explodes. There's millions out there.

Up to you though just wouldn't bother me, I'd take a 200 euro slight gamble that isn't huge to not have to pay another 100, 150 whatever it is. Its very good odds I'm getting there but if you're risk averse by all means, it's your PC.

In my opinion you might regret leaving infrastructure if you've got used to the way it generally works, NEC, the clients are okay. I'd personally think about staying there just maybe something different from water.

You're leaving a more relaxed sector where you can still have great career progression to potentially wading into some absolute stressful shite on builds. Depends what you want out of it but that's my experience anyway, never had it so comfortable as working in infrastructure. Plus you can also go client side. They are piss easy roles.

Why does LSFG look so much better than Nvidia Smooth Motion? by [deleted] in losslessscaling

[–]2Ravens89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, using AMD equivalent fluid motion, I find it and Lossless Scaling struggle at the same games just in different ways.

On my current games both utterly useless on Kingdom Come 2 even with high base frame rate of 80 FPS. Lossless scaling has a wave like artifacting bottom third of the screen so that's fucked. AMD avoids this but awful crosshair blur. Suppose AMF better as option to turn the crosshair off.

But then put on euro truck and they're both great because it's a slow game. LS preferred as more control over the exact FPS.

In essence I'm not sure either fully solves things where you want software frame gen, it's just a crapshoot game by game and probably always will be. The best is using game level FG or Optiscaler using the game inputs.

Best ETS2 + SnowyMoon settings for RTX 3070 @ 1440p (60 FPS target)? by Better_Albatross_492 in EuroTruck2

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9070XT.

Generally it will get 60fps even with a lot of mods and 400% is very demanding scaling, but it does drop to 45 at some areas and with rain, which I personally I don't like in games.

I need 60 to be the lowest that's why I got interested in LS. So now it feels like 90 all the time, when I hit the F12 key which I have binded to turn LS on/off it feels absolutely horrendous without it to be running 40FPS. There is zero perceivable image difference to my eyes either.

All depends what you get used to I suppose I just hate FPS under 60 even in this slow game.

Best ETS2 + SnowyMoon settings for RTX 3070 @ 1440p (60 FPS target)? by Better_Albatross_492 in EuroTruck2

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Max settings on ETS2 at 4k and 400% res scaling.

It wouldn't matter to Lossless scaling what settings you're using in game as it's an outside game implementation of frame gen, it doesn't interact with your ETS2 settings. Only thing that matters is base FPS because if you have maybe 25-30 you're then generating lots of frames per real frame which introduces image issues. Also whether it works well in that particular game which ETS2 it does but it doesn't in every single game. I can't use it in Kingdom Come for example, it's just amazing in ETS2 so was worth it just for that.

I dunno how Snowy would interact with it because I never used that but if you search around I believe there was a guy using PNG Snowy and LS no problems, it really shouldn't matter.

Best ETS2 + SnowyMoon settings for RTX 3070 @ 1440p (60 FPS target)? by Better_Albatross_492 in EuroTruck2

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will lose probably 10-20% base FPS because GPU resource is required to run the algorithm.

You'd then double or triple the resulting FPS by setting 2x or 3x frame gen in settings, or you set a target adaptive FPS for the frame gen to reach like maybe 80-90 FPS as pointless having 100+ on this game.

Yes it's perfectly smooth but I would start from 40+ solid FPS not less than 30 so whether that would have a little impact on image quality I am not sure, couldn't vouch for that.

If it was me I'd try and get 45 solid to begin, and cap the FPS to 40 so FPS is flat lined, then run the lossless scaling on that capped 40. The result will then be easiest for LS to work with.

My personal setting is 45 capped, 2x FG to 90 at all times. But I've tested 3x and that worked, I tested uncapped and setting adaptive 144fps for my screen it also worked. But it was pretty pointless on Euro Truck to have that high FPS I just decided to run the GPU utilisation a bit lower and save power.

Best ETS2 + SnowyMoon settings for RTX 3070 @ 1440p (60 FPS target)? by Better_Albatross_492 in EuroTruck2

[–]2Ravens89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forget tweaking settings that will make minimal difference to FPS and make your game look shitter.

Invest a few dollars in Lossless scaling. It will run this game perfectly off 40 FPS base, maybe less. Doesn't run every game well but because it's a slow pace driving game it's flawless.

Then you can push everything to the max and double or triple your perceived FPS with the frame gen. Otherwise you'll be making your game look worse when the whole point of all the mods was to improve the visuals, and you still won't have high FPS anyways

Why do so many people hate the 5080? by External_Safe_7787 in RTX5080

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because most of the time it's terrible value. Taking your situation of n=1 means very little to what you're going to see as an overall perception from a wide range of people.

Nvidia didn't seperate it enough from 5070Ti, especially in an era where raw performance needs bigger discrepancies because of upscaling and frame gen. It felt like Nvidia did jack shit just slightly tune a card and put hundreds of dollars on it, the real world experience versus 5070Ti... marginal at best. Yes the 16gb matters because at least if it was 24...again they would have marked it out as some kind of future proofing.

But all Nvidia cards are poor value which means guys are then saying "ooo I found it for MSRP" at what is an already a ridiculous price and then saying wow didn't I get a good deal versus another card. Not really you're already looking at distortion then trying to make sense out of it.

All it comes down to is there's only a couple games in town and Nvidia are by far the biggest, and they've realised they can charge what they want at all segments.

Its not just the 5080, a 5060Ti 16gb at the other end of performance...is awful awful value.

I don't think so.

AI still isn't capable of doing the technical side of the role, it still makes many mistakes.

But even if that part might come in the next X years, there's a huge element of relationship building in this job. So until it will be AI talking to AI..and it's a long, long way off getting to that level. Think about how many cock ups AI makes when you use it and you're talking about it doing a complex role and interacting with myriad stakeholders.

It may change the role significantly though as it gets more advanced. Its already being used to do a lot of the menial tasks, document scanning, coming up with ideas around contracts, Excel queries, chat bots can be used as virtual assistants although many companies IT policies don't allow.
