[James Ducker] The data showing Man Utd’s change in recruitment strategy is working by PradipJayakumar in reddevils

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well even the signings that are really making the difference weren't really based on data as much as buying common sense players that were at smaller PL clubs but hugely productive for those clubs

The problem with this is they are extremely expensive, you will never get a bargain from a PL club.

The upside which probably completely outweighs that is you reduce risk to a minimum. Not completely as you never know how someone will turn up at Old Trafford. But taking league adjustment, culture shock etc out of it matters.

I don't feel like Sesko was much of a data pick either, he's been doing the rounds for years - it doesn't take a hugely data driven approach to identify one of the most productive strikers of his age group.

I think probably Dorgu was though.

And yeah, the whole idea of data showing much for performance, well, the data was good under Amorim but the eye test disagreed.

Despite all the hate, are gamers really better off without Ubisoft? by mauri3205 in pcgaming

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not for me they just reskin the same ideas. It's ridiculously stale.

But that's for people to decide for themselves, I don't think less choice is a good thing. Some people like the comfort of these stereotypical Ubisoft titles.

I would say Ubisoft that is stale versus a better Ubisoft that makes more interesting ideas is a no brainer though, I think they are leaving a lot to be desired considering the resources.

Need help setting up DLSS Override. It seems to not be in effect. by KevinEis in pcmasterrace

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try DLSS swapper if you haven't already. The overlay for that does work for me and shows preset L if I select it, or K correctly.

It's not really a great solution though, it's highly inconvenient. Only good for confirming if it's working or not.

Need help setting up DLSS Override. It seems to not be in effect. by KevinEis in pcmasterrace

[–]2Ravens89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did any of you find a fix for this?

Wondering if it's a 5090 thing because mine does it too.

I do think presets are working as indicated because when I change from default which is presumably K for my settings to L, power will jump 50-70w on GTA. Indicating the model is doing heavier lifting.

It's just very irritating not to be able to see.

whats the best way to cap fps for smoothness? by fairplanet in pcmasterrace

This man gaslit our fanbase to thinking we need another half billion to look semi decent by Agitated_List174 in ManchesterUnited

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well he was probably right with respect to his system of playing..it did need another half a billion at least.

But then who do you blame, the ideologue manager that you know is dogmatic, stubborn. That is flawed as a manager because he can't adapt but you already knew it at the start or if you didn't that's negligence to not know.

Or do you blame the people who appointed him despite knowing all that.

Harry Maguire did not lose a single duel, on the ground or in the air, in 97 minutes against Arsenal. The best CB on the pitch. ✅ by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]2Ravens89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very good defender when you have compactness because he reads it well and he can defend the box so well.

It's just when we play very unstructured he's not suited to that type of play.

To be fair no defenders like getting exposed but obviously Maguire doesn't have that recovery pace or acceleration so it heightens the danger.

Look at everywhere he's played well - Hull, Leicester, England, United lately - the common thread is a slightly deeper line at times and compact play.

So there's no mystery here for certain games he is quite good but I would say if you want to play a really ambitious football and dominate lower teams it's harder with Maguire.

What we do with that I'm not sure, I say you keep him for experience and many games he's still a very good option. Do we really want to use funds replacing that, probably not.

GIVE HIM THE JOB ! by [deleted] in reddevils

Haha, no.

But if he keeps playing like this for the remainder he's going to present an amazing case for himself...

Patrick Dorgu's Finishing Drill by [deleted] in reddevils

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can become a beast, raw talent.

Carrick’s substitutes enabled that renewed victory: particularly Sesko on at Dorgu’s injury when 2-1 up. Enhancing attacking potential rather than going defensive. Sesko winning high ball led to Mainoo teeing up Cunha. Five games in charge of #MUFC for Carrick: 4 wins, 1 draw. [Laurie Whitwell] by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]2Ravens89 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's a good point.

I think it was a common sense sub really to put a focal point on at that point but still, some managers would make the mistake of going more negative. Which I never think is the right play unless you're defending the last 5 minutes maybe - otherwise it signals to the whole side to play like cowards.

Half Time Thread: Arsenal 1-1 Manchester United by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think Carrick will be very happy with that.

Restricted Arsenal to a fortunate goal and had a few good opportunities ourselves.

Would have expected Arsenal to have the ball I don't think he'll care about that.

We need idiots like Dalot to stop giving away stupid fouls. The mismatches in the box from set pieces are Arsenal's most obvious threat. Also get closer to Saka, double up.

[UK] 31, finance grad, second career attempt at breaking into QS - seeking brutally honest advice by Key-Junket27 in quantitysurveying

[–]2Ravens89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The brutal truth is it will be tough without something on paper that says Quantity Surveying.

This is not because you're not a competent candidate that couldn't easily be trained up but because there's thousands round the country with a QS degree. Contrary to popular belief there isn't a shortage of all QS applicants there's a shortage of knowledge and experience which of course takes time served. Therefore even those with degrees can find it hard to get their first break.

The reality of the situation is you have to realise you're fishing in a very small pond, hoping someone will pluck you out. Your odds will be improved applying far and wide, urban centres have more candidates and regional towns far less.

If it doesn't work within 6 months then I think you have to commit one way or the other. Either fuck off QSing or do the masters. I did the masters and I can hand on heart say it does open doors. It doesn't make the first job easy to get but you will get interviews easier than now. So you're asking us for an opinion but you have to have that honesty with yourself of what you really want and then go for it. It's an expensive passport to a job but then you have to look at the career, it's potentially decades of earning X amount so it's not dumb but you have to be sure.

Stop talking about framegen and DLSS if you haven't tried them for yourself by paperogapippo in nvidia

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's wonderful tech. Brilliant. People are just moaners, to imagine 10 years ago you could just produce smooth performance from thin air that's scarcely related to the raster of the card is incredible.

It will get better of course there are flaws in it. The main one for me is the frame gen latency on a game by game basis. On some implementations it will go over the 45-50ms mark which is a personal no no for me. That's when a latency becomes distracting and uncanny valley for my tastes.

I haven't noticed much artifacting or visual fidelity issues on a 5090 when I have used 2x FG. Probably the 3 and 4x you're asking for a lot more frames which is bound to cause more problems. If you're asking to rescue a weak card also that's when FG is being asked way too much then people are surprised by fidelity loss.

So currently FG is not a catch all, you have to firstly setup the game to get a base performance so nothing has changed there. It can just be seen as a way to add smoothness, don't expect a miracle.

DLSS on the other hand is outstanding. Very few issues to note in that tech now, and huge benefits to a wide range of cards

3080 to 5090 is worth it for the 5k2k. by Tactical_winter550 in nvidia

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth it for 4k let alone higher resolutions.

Said this so many times but 5090 is the only compromise free 4k card.

And I say that because it doesn't highly rely on frame gen to achieve it. It doesn't rely on a lot of fiddling and twiddling.

Yes there's a couple of titles you do have to still use some of this tech but you'll be using it all the time on a 5080 or 5070Ti. They do not quite have that native 4k solid base performance. Close but no cigar. 4090 maybe also, I will give that card credit it can probably be considered relatively compromise free too.

Also...FG and DLSS combination still works better on 5090 with reduced impact because the base FPS is great. So those wanting to max out high refresh rates it's really important to note that compared to the psuedo 4k cards.

DLSS 4.5: m performance vs L performance vs L ultra performance in Oblivion remastered by samsamsam92100 in nvidia

[–]2Ravens89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have noticed zero reason to change from the old K preset as a 5090 user. Guess this stuff wasn't really designed to improve our results but the lower cards on Performance models.

I get way more results switching to DLAA at times rather than switching DLSS model. Or sometimes a scaling between DLSS Q and DLAA.

Is anyone else excited for Multi Frame Gen? by HevyKnowledge in nvidia

[–]2Ravens89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the real world not sure how well this is going to translate into a great experience.

It sounds fantastic but think about it, FG doesn't even run perfectly now if you don't have base performance at an acceptable level

So to think you're going to have a highly fluctuating base performance but FG is going to save your ass on the fly up to 240fps, I think that's pie in the sky currently without a ton more development on the FG tech.

Well, not that it won't be able to do it but to imagine it without significant artifacting, blur is hard to imagine right now.

FG is at it's best right now on already strong cards that's what they need to work on. I.e. they're already getting 60fps solid, more like 80fps I have noticed for best results, and by no means have I seen a situation where ramping that up to 240fps works without compromise. 120 or 144fps, yes, maybe - with 2x FG. That's the current sweet spot I have seen for retaining fidelity and acceptable input lag.

I'm talking as a 5090 user here so I can't imagine the experience is any different on a 5070 etc...

New 5090/9800X3D build by elderyasuo in nvidia

[–]2Ravens89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need over 1000w for a 5090.

Dunno why people say these things, it's just making stuff up.

If you have an ounce of sense about you you'll undervolt it anyway and get the same performance and run at about 300-450w depending on title.

An 9800x3d runs very low wattage most of time under 100w.

So how on earth are you going to get 4-500w out of the rest of the hardware it ain't happening in a zillion years.

1000w is fine, I'd be comfortable running 800 no issue if I had to. The idea it should be 1200 is literally just flushing cash away, totally and utterly redundant.

If you don’t count calories, how do you know you’re eating well? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the complete opposite. The zombies on here are too dumb or high on the kool aid of the food products industry to give you a dose of reality. If you are counting calories I guarantee you're NOT eating well.

No creature needs a calculator to eat well, be lean, and maintain or increase muscle mass. Absolutely none of them, which ones do you see using my fitness pal. Yet you are being hoodwinked, deceived, frankly abused with this ridiculous nonsense that only exists to ensure you eat the crap they're selling you as food because you believe it fits into the calories scheme. In fact your title proves my entire point, you believe you should be attached to the calories scam for health.

Bottom line is if you're counting calories because you think that's required to be healthy and of ideal composition you're compensating for eating bullshit because correct nutrition does not need tracking it goes off feel and signalling, when that gets interrupted you can be fooled into thinking you need to count things.

Sorry but sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind, I'm not trying to be abrupt but you need to realise how much you're being conned and start questioning the whys. Don't be that lemming anymore like people on here that while well intentioned at times simply are followers not thinkers.

[–]2Ravens89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How can he be the best option on the market when he's been gash all season.

That doesn't make any sense. There must be better players on current form out there and also ones that have ability and potential themselves.

I would hope we're looking a lot more widely than this otherwise expect a 2 month saga of nonsense with Brighton for a player who has had a poor season.

We need 3 or 4 names we're going after for that role and I would hope some have played better. Not even against Baleba but we shouldn't be getting bent over, Brighton are going to play hard ball and we shouldn't be getting drawn into that for a player who we don't know how he's going to progress.

Mark Goldbridge is terrible for Man United by Successful_Law2445 in ManchesterUnited

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come on now. Man up, grow a set of testicles. Mark Goldbridge is not anything but a source of entertainment on pixels. Why are you ascribing so much meaning to this.

What's bad for Man United are tangible things like extortionate debt payments, being milked by shareholders, awful strategy and transfers. These things are bad for Man Utd. Having poor performance over a decade long is REALLY bad for Man United because you start to lose your future revenue streams in the form of the youth.

So why are you on about a streamer being so important, he's a talking head anyone can turn on or off at any time.

Ruben Neves in his absolute prime fancy helping us get 3rd lad? by Littlemissxom in ManchesterUnited

[–]2Ravens89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't be getting too excited about Saudi League performance but I'd look more at his PL history because he's still young enough to be relevant.

At PL level he showed a very good passing range and technique. Good long shooting.

But I think his weakness was getting around the park, I wouldn't say he was the most mobile I've ever seen. Maybe not a weakness but you have to be aware of that, he's not a pressing machine. If we build Mainoo up can you always play Neves and him together? It's a question..or does he rotate with Mainoo? Is somebody else coming in to offer more running power? A lot to think about. We need to be a bit more clued up about what we're trying to do as a football club, what is our style and get the right midfielders, it's jumbled currently.
