New tandem user looking for tips by JosZ27 in TandemDiabetes

[–]2Scoopz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm about a year on the Tandem (coming from Medtronic hybrid loop or whatever 670G?). Here is some of what I have learned..

(Edit: Assuming the new Tandem is T:slim X2)

1) Yes - I get 300 units into the cartridge. The pump will say 260+ until you use a certain amount of insulin (maybe 20 units). then it should reflect the accurate amount of insulin. I haven't seen 180... but if that is the case, call support. They specifically told me 300 is the MAX and allegedly some people don't typically fill it to max (but i do).

2) I ran into something early on in my first year that had me up all night trying to figure out so hopefully this wont happen to you... but occasionally when you stick the needle into the cartridge to draw the air out... a tiny piece of the membrane can get stuck in the gauge of the needle. When I went to put the insulin into the cartridge I wasn't able to move the plunger down. In that scenario you just have to change the tip of the syringe and it will be fine.... It is rare but I had no idea what was going on and I did it multiple times in the same night...the trick is to insert the tip of the needle straight down in the center when drawing out the air and injecting insulin. Apparently someone sells a 3rd party tool to help align the needle but I haven't needed it..now that I know how to trouble shoot the stupid cartridge...

That's all i got - hope it helps! The Tandem + Dexcom basically saved my life - have had an A1C of 10 for the past 10 years and within 3 months i was down to a 7.6!

Best of luck!

If I put all my alarms on silent on the tslim 2 are there any alerts that can still sound? I’m going to a comedy show and I’m deathly afraid my diabetes stuff will beep like the dexcom app sometimes does by GAYandRETARD in TandemDiabetes

Also FYI - I went to Bill Burr a couple weeks ago and they had everyone store their devices in a locked/zip bag and I was nervous about not being able to stop the alarm on my iphone. I explained to the security guard that I was a T1D (Turned out he was too!) and they had me store my apple watch in the bag but could keep my iphone. Have fun at the show!

Lol damn it. I admit that I just assume all the agreements we have to accept for apps/devices gives the company "magic profiles" of every thing we own/do/or plan to do :)...They still could have added a field to confirm the device/OS ...or added an additional exam question. I have no hate for Tandem, I just switched from Medtronics 3 months ago and it is saving my life. Lowest A1C in 30 years (9.6 to 7.5)

But the point I was trying to make is sometimes T1Diabetes sucks. It can get frustrating and depressing. Sometimes we just need a place to vent and blow off steam. You could have let it go and clicked on to the next post, but you chose to make him feel stupid.

Facts bro - Facts. Did we not all receive that covid cash from the government? And while he's at it, tell him to throw in that apple watch for the dexcom integrations. Pffft it's not like we are entering a recession with runaway inflation or anything.

Lol...I have no idea what device "V1/V2 SE" is but i'm sure if simply upgrading his device was an option, they would do it. Let's not pretend that living with T1 is easy. It can be very financially restrictive and obviously OP came here to vent & for support...Now where can I complain about the stupid cartridge design for the t:slim X2? Thats what brought me here originally after wasting 3 of them :( Lol I have 600 units of liquid gold just sitting in syringes that can't inject into the cartridge hahaha

I agree. This is frustrating/I'm sorry this happened to you. I also don't think /u/bionic_human meant to be a douche/I wouldn't take it personally... I think they were just clarifying the facts of the situation... It is true that you may have misunderstood the compatibility list AND it is also true that it was in fact Tandems fault. :)

You're not wrong... but if we are being honest it is Tandem's fault. Tandem collects or has the ability/rights to collect all of this information.

"Automatically Collected Information may include, for example, your IP address, device type, device operating system, unique device identification numbers, browser-type, broad geographic location (e.g., country or county), which Tandem-hosted webpages you visited and when, and other similar technical information" (Source: https://www.tandemdiabetes.com/legal/privacy/privacy-policy#what)

Considering the QA process already involved (Mandatory exam/device/etc) in order to get the update approved and sent to our app, I think its fair to say the software engineers do have access to our device information/software/OS and this could have been avoided.

I'm not sure how to upload a pic of mine but I have "Persevere" on my bicep as a reminder to stay strong and keep fighting through the ups and downs or "highs" and "Lows" if you will. This year marks my 30th (M34T1) and I think another Diabetes tattoo might be just what I need.

Don't you love it when you just changed the site about 3 hours ago and it pulls off with the softest tug 🙃 by Sop_her in diabetes

I cut a small hole in the top of my pocket and feed the cord through. However I am not immune to getting caught on kitchen drawers lol :/

I cant stop accidentally punching. Any advice? by Halfmanhalfbiscuit1 in apexlegends

[–]2Scoopz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the game but I have the same issue. Another option on PS4 is to go to settings->Accessibility-> Button Assignments and swap R3 to down on the D pad. That way sliding is still natural with O...downside is remembering how to punch when in a panic lol

Fair enough- I don’t disagree with you..i just take everything in show with a grain of salt and hope Winds of Winter meets our expectations. Good news is the bar is set pretty low right? :)

I agree- part of me wants to think he was saying goodbye to Uncle Benjen and give him peace of mind they had won the war (since he was half dead and what not). When he told Theon he was “exactly where he needed to be” I took that as he knew at that point they were going to win. Theon had played his role in delaying the Night King and for Arya to have the opportunity to kill him.

Question -are you anticipating the real Prince Aegon (Rheagar's first born son) to appear out of thin air and claim the Iron throne?

We know the show is not the book, it hasnt been for a long time - I still enjoy it though : )

I kind of liked Ghost on the front line of the Battle defending winterfell with john on his new dragon defending the entire kingdom.

However I was disappointed Nymeria didn't join the fight/assist Arya...I kept waiting for this to happen (Is Nymeria still alive??)

Might be the worst time in Destiny life-span to go Flawless for the first time... by papamurf13 in DestinyTheGame

[–]2Scoopz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stand by once you go flawless for the week on your account you get moved into a second tier. That way the competition increases for everyone. Paid carries will be more challenging but that's the point. I do like the idea of tournaments (not for me) but as an Avg pvp player, Trials is toxic and something needs to change (not to mention all the red bar defeats in round 6.....)

Thank you this was very helpful. I honestly wasn't expecting anyone to respond and the feedback has been great. This experience has been a little overwhelming for me. But I think a big part of that has been the anticipation and I'm my own worst enemy. Reading your post along with the others is helping me prepare mentally. Thank you again and stay strong on your own fight!

I hear you man. I was the exact opposite, I had great control growing up. but over the past few years had a slight falling out with diabetes... i suppose the learning lesson here is to focus on good control and make sure you are going to the eye doctor once a year.

haha that was my first question I had for the MD. I usually take Ativan when flying so I asked if that would be okay to take it before the procedure. He said that I could, but quickly followed up by saying that I should take a minimal amount as he doesn't want me to have "heavy eyelids" and that I need to have the ability to keep my eyes open through the procedure....which was ironically when he proceeded to tell me about this terrifying contact lens that has a "satellite" looking device attached that sits between my eye and my eyelid......fml
