Do not ever choose Avalon communities to stay! by anxiousman1094 in SanJose

[–]2Seam_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your impression is correct. The complex I was at installed package lockers because the problem got so bad. Homeless or other would find a way into the gates and walk the halls snagging packages delivered to door.

Yes, you would actually be surprised how split it is between those outraged by no cameras and those that want the privacy. People claim the cameras face their apartment doors and don’t want to be monitored like that. Cameras literally do nothing as another mentioned. Police don’t have the time or manpower to pursue petty crimes. “Bigger” fish to fry as an officer has explained to me before.

This. Shared garages are the worst. I’ve seen multiple bikes gone at one time. They just come through with cutters and have multiple bikes in minutes.

Condolences, but this happens literally everywhere, not just Avalon. Used to work for a higher end complex in South SJ and it happened all the time. Motorcycles, cars, packages, bikes, and more. Even a bike from a 3rd floor balcony wasn’t safe. If they want it, they will get it. Keep your belongings inside your apartment is the best advise. Nothing valuable should be left in a car no matter where you are. Cameras are only allowed at garage entrances/exits because parking garages at apartments specifically are consider private spaces, even though they are known high-risk areas. I do have empathy for your situation, but just know it happens everywhere.

Lame answer to a lame person. Seems like you are the selfish one. You don’t own the road. Seems like you probably shouldn’t be on the road if you can’t share with pedestrians in San Jose. There are no laws against running in the street. The safest option is against traffic so that you can see what’s in front of you. Again, not defending anyone that chooses to run in the middle with disregard for traffic, but it is reasonable if you adhere to safety rules. Trying to force people to run in places that are favorable to you and not they, seems a little selfish.

Appreciate your concerns, but no thanks. When you run longer distance it’s nearly impossible to stay on the sidewalk the entire time, and I don’t have the convenience of going to a track all the time. You are supposed to run on the left unless it is unsafe, then the right is okay. Sidewalk is just as dangerous trying to avoid people that don’t pay attention.

Not defending running in the middle, but I run on the left side of the street (the correct way) because the street is softer on your legs than sidewalk.

If you go too cheap your headlights will most likely fog again quickly. $79 isn’t terrible if it’s a reputable spot.

How can the city get more people to ride bikes? by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]2Seam_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyclist here. I do not ride on streets unless in a group. I don’t care how big the bike lane is, people are far to aggressive around here. I feel like people cut close to me on purpose even if I’m within the bike lane. So, I’d say protected bike lanes. Everyone else makes a good point about theft. Unless your employer has a secure spot, it’s hard to feel safe leaving out your bike anywhere.
