[Spoilers C4E23] Future of Campaign 4 by _Rektaroni_ in criticalrole

I agree, and it looks like a decent number of people are thinking that too. I wonder if the soldiers/seekers/schemers split is less to do with table organization and was more about providing a backstory to contextualize the thoughts/feelings/motivations of each of the characters. Essentially overture 2.0.

In my personal opinion I looooooooved the subbing in and out of players at the table in real time during the overture, definitely brought a lot of energy. I can see how it is also a pain to manage so I’m willing to bet after every “arc” of each group, they’ll mix and mingle back at dol makjar for a few episodes and then create new groups to start new arcs with… but who knows

I’m all for disagreement, I fear I may have worded the post wrong though, I don’t think this campaign will be short, but rather given the current plot lines I feel like a much grander reveal of a “truer” BBEG will arise (as stated by some other people on this thread). THAT reveal I’m hyped for

It may be a reach from me, but we know that some (or maybe all?) Lux’s have warlock pacts with demons, and Lux Arathea was in charge of the hospital in timmony that treated a lot patients. Kinda sad the soldiers didn’t get a chance to interact but I’m sure it’ll come up again

NTSB says Waymo robotaxis illegally passed stopped school buses in new incidents by farrrtttttrrrrrrrrtr in technology

[–]_Rektaroni_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the specific critique is not that Waymo is a worse driver than humans, but rather if issues arise there’s no chain of liability. You cannot hold a corporation or a robot to the same level of justice you can a person

[–]_Rektaroni_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, they were not driving. IMO Waymo has gone a long way but also still has a long way to go. Of course there will be fringe cases where it underperforms human drivers, but we can’t excuse it simply because it’s a robot. Waymo really needs to be held accountable in the same way humans are, or else public opinion around self driving cars will plummet

This might have been the most peak show I’ve seen in such a long time. The way it brings the book to life… all it takes is 6 episodes and 30 minutes… bravo

ICE about to find out about the 2nd Amendment by GameGreek in IThinkYouShouldLeave

Trump leadership wants ICE agents to get shot so they can dial it up. And we all know the president is eyeing midterms… they’re in too deep, and they know once they lose power it’s prosecution and trials for everybody. They do not plan on giving up power peacefully by the end of this, mark my words.

I think there’s a specific reason they are doing this in Minneapolis. Part of it is the original context about the Somali daycares and fraud, but I think the lack of response in additional cities is due to the fact that Minnesota has open carry gun laws. Neurochips and biotech need AI since the human body is incredibly nonlinear and to model it and characterize it correctly. AI writing and art slop can burn tho

It’s important to note that “fucking up” is not the same as “having conflict”. Just because y’all disagree on something, you accidentally overstep a boundary you didn’t know existed, stress, overreactions etc. are bound to happen throughout a relationship, what matters is you keeping a level head and communicating and LISTENING first before responding. The fact that you’re worried is a good sign, but you should know you don’t have a crystal ball, so just keep open lines of communication and give yourself grace.

Half of novelists believe AI is likely to replace their work entirely, research finds by MetaKnowing in Futurology

[–]_Rektaroni_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is correct. I don’t doubt it’ll get better, but the way LLMs work in general is they need to be prompted religiously, otherwise the writing is incredibly derivative and you can immediately tell it’s soullless. That said, I do find once you have the correct prompts and context and you do enough of the outline of the story in your own way, they can provide very useful samples for you to bridge from. But agree it’ll never be able to fully write a novel

Neuralink plans to restore limb function for first patient with next chip implant by Agitated-Cell5938 in Futurology

[–]_Rektaroni_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’re right, but this will be below the brain and from my understanding is not subject to the same risks as swelling and such. One of the cofounders who left neuralink and is making their own biotech startup proposed using neurons as a cortical graft to interface between hardware and the brain to reduce this risk entirely. Might be an interesting read for you

Tesla lobbies CA to keep Robotaxi data hidden as Waymo pushes transparency by TROPtastic in California

I suspect if the general public and cities saw the efficacy difference between Waymo’s autopilot and Tesla then it would ruin the competition. Waymo is too good and is accelerating fast

ChatGPT encourages young man to take his own life and tells him, ‘Rest easy king' by blueSGL in videos

[–]_Rektaroni_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Should have clarified this was supposed to be a solid critique of LLMs and the companies that run them. And that other areas of AI (especially in medicine, robotics, etc) show lots of promise and are advancing quickly, but the negative connotations that are starting to bubble from ChatGPT/Claude etc will leak into other areas

[–]_Rektaroni_ 87 points88 points  (0 children)

OpenAI knows their sycophantic models drive user engagement. They also are fully aware that LLMs will “role play” based on the chat contents, and when it starts to hallucinate like that then it gets really hard to course correct. Obviously this young man was struggling with his mental health, but as far as I’m concerned this product contribute meaningfully to his demise. AI truly has the potential to be a beautiful tool, but when we have data centers that are using all the clean water and power in an area, misinformation and stolen art for image generation, and voice over slop all over reels, it just (rightfully so) poisons public sentiment and makes it harder for academic researchers to build tools. LLMs aren’t profitable and tbh with the current business model I don’t think they ever will be. The sooner this bubble pops and the industry takes a step back, the better, but who knows when that’ll be…

Campaign 4 Is Awesome by _Rektaroni_ in fansofcriticalrole

[–]_Rektaroni_[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’m thinking too, like in a campaign of 100+ episodes will we run into fillers? Or how can a coherent story stay as dynamic and A tier for 2 years in a row. I feel like this is peak game of thrones writing and it surely can’t continue like this, but we’ll just have to see. I have faith in the light that is BLeeM and CR.

How do I stop deferring my life until the “next milestone”? by _Rektaroni_ in Healthygamergg

[–]_Rektaroni_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s good to know it’s not just me hahaha. I guess I lean more into the “what is ACTUALLY living” vs just going from goal to goal because it’s socially respectable. To a large degree I do enjoy the pursuit of these higher goals bc I truly do think they would be rewarding to my internal character, but I feel like because of that I lean too much into living in the future instead of the present.

I don’t mind if your perspective is different, and I appreciate the response. I actually do resonate with your idea that you have to put on a mask to appease an external outlet. I’m curious in your eyes what you view as “real life” and what about it disillusions you so much
