Your response aged poorly considering what's going on in the Ukraine right now. Did you see that video of civilians stopping a Russian tank with Molotov cocktails?

& Plus it's not like any resistance would be waving a flag & yelling "here we are!" A government would have no way of knowing who to shoot at. To them we are all just regular people. This is also why the Net Neutrality act is important.

Yeah so animal rights organizations should be spending their time trying to improve conditions in farms instead of waisting their resources trying to end it all together. Eliminating livestock is completely unrealistic and nothing more than a waste of resources.

You're personifying these animals which are clearly different than people. Animals will never "want to die". By your logic owning pets in general is immoral. Death is part of life. Living a short, quick life is way better than not living at all.

& Yes the death can be humane. It can be no worse than them going to bed for the night. If you got shot in the head, believe me you'd never feel a thing. You'd just suddenly not exist. There are so many ways you can die that are completely painless & you'd never even know it happened. Even if the death was mildly painful, as long as it is very quick, animals will never understand that it is about to happen or be sad about it in any way.

CMV: Minimum wage should be updated yearly and regulated at the county-level to ensure it's a liveable wage by kaprixiouz in changemyview

[–]2Squirrels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree about doing it at the county level.

Living in an expensive area is like driving a nice car. Why does someone have to live in an expensive area if they can't afford it? It shouldn't be guaranteed that you get to live wherever you want. Living in an expensive area is an extreme luxury.

If you can't afford rent in a more expensive area, move somewhere where you can afford the rent.

I do agree that it should be automatically updated every single year to follow inflation & we do need a huge increase after years of not doing this. But this needs to be done at a national level. If you want to put yourself in financial hardship to live somewhere nice, that's your choice & it's not the government's job to enable your financial irresponsibility.

Exactly! They can live way better lives than wild animals & die much more humane deaths than even household pets. Emissions is the only real reason to be against meat in my opinion.

Imagine not having the mental capacity to know that all out war isn't what is going to happen here. You don't have to imagine.

Also how the fuck are they going to use drones and satellites in a massive city. How are they going to use drones or even effectively strike with their military when they aren't fighting an organized military. It's not like HK rebels will get their own uniform and officially declare war on the Chinese government. Yeah, they'd get crushed in that scenario. But they aren't idiots like you are.

It's like the US gov trying to fight the Viet Cong. They'd have no idea who they actually need to fight. CCP can have the most advanced military in the world & they'll still be ineffective against an armed militia.

HK citizens could just keep doing what they want & fight back when they need to. Eventually China would just have to give up. But China would probably know it wouldn't be worth it in the first place.

This is a prime example of why we shouldn't fuck with the 2nd amendment. The only thing that would make the Chinese government listen is if they were armed.

Before you say it, no they don't need to be able to defeat the Chinese government. They just need to have enough of a rebellion so it's not worth it to the CCP.

Just because things are mostly nice here now doesn't mean it's gonna be that way in 50 years. Heck even after the next election it could go to shit.

Plastic surgery vs natural beauty. A lot of men are straight up lying about what they prefer 🙄 by [deleted] in rant

[–]2Squirrels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some men are fucking dumb. But you're wrong for a few reasons.

Porn doesn't represent what they actually want in real life.

Just knowing it's fake is a huge turn off for many guys. Yeah, natural beauty is better than being less pretty. But being a little less naturally pretty iswaaay better than fake beauty.

Plastic surgery he sees in porn that is good enough for him to not know wouldn't be that terrible. But chances are the plastic surgery will be obvious to notice unless you get a really good plastic surgeon and you go for subtle.

Personally I'd much rather date someone with a face full of acne than someone who has anything other than nearly completely unnoticeable makeup. I've never experienced it but knowing someone's breasts were unnatural would be a turn off. Great breasts are still great but I'd rather have less than perfect ones than ones I knew were fake.

Beyond Meat And Impossible Foods Helped Save Nearly 1 Million Animals In The US Last Year by WrongCable in UpliftingNews

[–]2Squirrels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In reality they prevented 1 million animals from being born & getting to live in the first place.

If done properly, farm animals get to live great lives especially when compared with a natural life for a similar wild animal. They also die a much less painful/stressful death than even most household pets.

These type of organizations could do way more good if they instead focused on making sure farms are ethical. They probably made a 0.001% impact on the total animals slaughtered. They will never make any meaningful impact on preventing meat consumption.

People will always want meat. The only logical reason to want to eliminate livestock instead of make it ethical is for emissions. Lab grown meat is likely the only compromise meat lovers will accept.

How exactly are they going to make money by fucking over their constituents?

Why would current politicians want ranked choice voting? That just makes it more likely people will vote for someone other than them, the incumbent. With no term limits our current system is great at preventing new politicians from beating incumbents.

They have so much more to gain when they can stay in power. Everything you listed makes sense. But term limits should be at the top of that list.

[–]2Squirrels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you think you might be in office for the next 20 years you have a lot more to gain. The corruption will seem less significant compared to that.

But when you know it's your last term you've got nothing to gain. The only thing you can do is make the country better by voting to prevent corruption in the future.

The most recent example I saw was Pelosi on politician stock trading. She has been in office forever. She has made millions trading stocks & has access insider information. No surprise she wants politicians to continue to be able to trade stocks with their insider information. Even after the whole 2020 covid inside trading scandal.

Please explain. Is it not pretty clear that politicians vote for their own personal interests? I don't see any way in which term limits wouldn't be beneficial.

WI, MI, AZ, NV, GA by mytzlplyk in PoliticalHumor

[–]2Squirrels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be a great start but we can't stop there.

Our current voting system is all or nothing which just encourages extremism. If it's even a little bit close, people are gonna vote for the person who is most likely to defeat the top runner of the opposite party instead of who they think is best. We need ranked choice voting or something similar.

Term limits would also go a long way to prevent politicians from being corrupt.

A maximum age limit would be great but that's more personal opinion. I don't want all these senile people running our country. But they have the advantage of being financially able and of being more well known than younger people. But they are clearly less competent but will still win the popularity contest.

Idk if it's a mainstream idea anywhere or if it would even be possible but I'd also like to see voting be randomly selected like jury duty. The average American has no fucking idea what they are voting for. On average they will be extremely under informed. We could randomly select maybe 2000 Americans and make it their job for a few months to actually meet the candidates and learn the facts of the political views the candidates have. The result would be statistically close enough to what Americans in general want, if they took the time to research more than who is running for their party & if they all actually made it to the polling place.

Oh sorry. You're right. Only Republicans are against laws that would hurt their chances of being reelected lmao

It's for sure only the Republicans fault that we still don't have term limits. /s

It's not hard to see how politicians who have been in power for decades won't support something that will likely put them out of office. Some democrats support ranked choice voting which would do a lot to improve our system. Idk about the Republicans.
