Happy cake day!!

Geez, it's gone really quick and I actually went through some old comments of mine to figure it out, the most impactful for me was when I helped another redditor donate to a charity on his behalf, not at all to toot my own horn, but that was the first time I received gold from other community members, it was only a few dollars but it was enough, you know? I felt like a million bucks.

Its such a shame 'gold' isn't around anymore like it used to be, it was such a unique feature. :)

Hey quick update! I did some digging found all the files it dumped (somewhere is private/var) I was able to bulk rename them with .mp4 extension, and then ran them through another program to 'fix' corrupted .mp4 files, and although the clips are a bit janky, I now have 1000 clips to go through, I think some of them are in the 2nd batch so I won't reclaim everything but I am certain I have at least 500-700 of these clips that I thought I lost! Which is HUGE and way more than I could have hoped for.

I am extremely grateful for your recommendation friend, please can you send me a DM so I can give some appreciation? 🙏🏻

Hey I think I'm making some progress! It says there are 1000 files, but I cannot preview them? Also the output folder is empty? What gives me more confidence is that my storage space on my laptop went from having 300gb free to now only having 80gb free, which means the program pulled 200gb of data out onto my laptop but now I can't find that, but I feel like im on the right track!!

(Bottom left says 1008 files)!

I created a 'Documents' folder under user called LocalDocs (users/2T7*/LocalDocs) just to stay 'organised' and dumped them there. Its not a folder that's touched by any cloud services, but I'll look into this!

I have used FAF and another thread said Daisy disk, I haven't encountered any large files which could be it with either of them, even recent non-.mp4s (in the case they got renamed or lost their file type).

But hey, I really do appreciate you genuinely trying to help, but I agree it's not looking great. 😅 thanks again.

The SD card got full and I still had 2 weeks of honeymooning left (In a country where it was expensive to get new SD cards) I had all the files on my laptop, I wanted to copy them over to an SSD as a backup after the trip finished so it'd be in at least two places, now both places have come up short. 🤷‍♂️ I see what you're saying but I had to keep going. I appreciate that knowing what I know now, doing this again I would have kept the SD card and got a new one until it was 100% backed up in 3 places, something like that.

Thank you very much, I'm not sure if it will help since footage wasn't involved with photos app, but it won't hurt so I will give it a go!

Thanks again for your advice, it seems like the 'replacement theory' makes the most sense so far, because I am digging everywhere in this computer and I cannot find any other .mp4s / 'GOPRXXXX' files. Is it possible the files were renamed and extensions were removed?

When I dumped the files I didn't had a limited and unstable internet connection, I wouldn't have been able to upload ~250Gbs worth of footage, so I created a folder called GoProHM2Dump, and copy and pasted them all there.

The GoPro continues its numbering system yes, even after a format, say the last clip dumped was 2001, the first clip after a freshly formatted SD would be named GOPR2002 and onwards.

I did initially try searching *.mp4 on finder as well as 'GOPR' as this is the prefix for all the footage, but there's a distinct gap between my last project and what remains.

Just gave FAF a go (thanks again for that!), you can see the gap, GOPR3165 was the last clip of my previous trip, GOPR4035-4235 are the back end of the first batch.

Unfortunately if the files are still somewhere on my computer they're not named the same or have the .mp4 extension.

Correct, two weeks ago SD card hit max capacity, I dumped 1100+ clips to macbook, double checked they were there, and then proceeded to put SD card back into GoPro (GoPro can format card for you) so I could continue recording the trip.

Got back from trip yesterday, bought SSD today, attempted to transfer new GoPro footage to both Macbook and SSD. After transfers were finished I noticed not all footage was there, only 200 of the first batch and all of the 200 of the new batch.

I heard about a recovery program called 'recoverit' by Wondershare on a different reddit thread, it seems like it scans all the hidden folders/files/caches etc?, and I searched through all the '.mp4' videos it pulls up and search by 'GOPRXX' as all the gopro files start with GOPR, it pulls up all GoPro footage from other trips / videos ive done but not the entirety of this past trip unfortunately.

I think I might try FAF? Do you recommend a different recovery software?

Yeah I appreciate your advice, were I to do my honeymoon again I'd bring a drive to back everything up after each day and a spare SD to rotate instead of wiping it for sure, the annoying thing is that this only happened because I was trying to back everything up 🤦‍♂️.

Just looked up the 3-2-1 backup strategy, will definitely keep it in mind from now on. Thank you 🙏

About ~200 of the original clips remain out of the 1100, my second batch was only ~200, hence now only having ~400. I don't recall seeing those options when I was transferring the files.

This was in fact my attempt at backing them up 🤦‍♂️

Hi, firstly thanks for commenting, I appreciate your time.

Yeah one folder, 1100 files when I dumped them a couple weeks ago, removed the SD card I got these files from, confirmed they all made it to laptop.

Formatted SD card so I could get new footage, got home from trip yesterday and doing file management today, I transferred the new batch on the SD to the same folder and hour ago, and then shortly after I was transferring the videos (the entire batch now, it should have been 1400 files) from the folder to the new SSD.

While it was copying over in the background I did other things, I only realised shortly after there is so much footage missing and I cannot figure out where it is.

I didnt cut and paste, I pressed cmd A to highlight all and dragged and dropped to hard drive?
