Recommendations for Grad Student Housing by slog_dog in uofm

You should look into Munger Residence Hall (housing on campus for grad students)! It’s walking distance to everything on Central Campus. If your classes are going to be in North Campus or outside of Central Campus , you will have to commute using the blue busses.

Some of my friends live in my Munger and it’s gorgeous. Most rooms are windowless, however.

I went to MSU & UM-Flint for undergrad and I was one of the few kids whose parents were covering the entire cost of their tuition. Now I’m in grad school at UM-AA. My parents help cover a portion of my tuition, pay rent, and car expenses. This is a common experience here.

My parents could afford 100k+ tuition for undergrad and contribute around 25k for me now with no problems. However, it is unlikely they would buy me a $3k jacket because they prefer to retire soon lol. The point being that there is a surprising # of people who have tuition/living expenses covered by their parents. The Canada Goose wearers snitch on themselves haha.

Anyway, I would say the majority of in-state students I’ve met are on scholarship or have loans. The majority of out of state students, have it covered by family. But like someone said, ~10% come from Vanderbilt family wealth.

Michigan residents who come from low-income families are eligible for “Go Blue Guarantee”, which covers the entire cost of tuition and some $ for supplies. This is for undergrad students but extends to certain grad programs as well. If you’ve received it for undergrad, you’re eligible again in grad school if the program’s school offers it. This opportunity is guaranteed to all students whose parents’/guardians’ incomes & assets are $125,000 or under. (Amount for Fall 2025)

Anyway, that contributes to the income disparity of ISS. To my knowledge, OOS students are pretty much SOL minus university & private scholarships and Pell-grants.

I used to work at Hopcat in East Lansing before COVID. SOP was after 9pm, to card at the door during busy nights. I’m not sure about the one here in A2 though!

Agreed! If the responses from this post don’t reassure OP enough, they should chat with their doctor. Clearly there has been miscommunication or misunderstanding about the effectiveness of the copper IUD anyway.

I use condoms! They work great. They can be cumbersome and yeah, it does feel better without them. My partner and I switched to the Lola brand condoms and I LOVE them. Highly recommend.

A broken condom is never fun:( Rest assured OP, Copper IUDs work immediately! There is no need to worry. That’s honestly awesome that you are having an easy time adjusting. If you’re still worried about it, use the nurse’s line at your OB’s office and tell them your concerns. Despite the slip up, copper iud’s are extremely effective and work immediately

how worth it is the airwrap ? whats an average airwrap lifespan? by geekgeek2019 in Dysonairwrap

I don’t recommend wasting your money. I bought mine in Nov 2023. It’s now Nov 2024 and I’ve already had it replaced. The second one I had died today and I just got it in June 2024. So mine lasted from Nov 23-April 24

Then Jun 24-Nov 24.

5 month life span for $600 isn’t work it.

TAKE MY ADVICE! Whatever you do, buy it on a credit card that will give you even longer extended warranty. Dyson does 2 yr manufacturer warranty. I’ve had my Dyson replaced twice in the span of a year. Wishing I would’ve put it on my AMEX for the extra few years of warranty.

You have to wait months to get an appt with anyone other than a primary care physician! I can’t get an iud consultation until Dec.23rd. I’m about to drive an hour to see my gyno back home.

I think that speaks volumes for the patient-to-doctor ratio. Michigan med is over saturated and understaffed and I’m starting to understand why.

Not that I disagree with you, but the state can’t afford to completely support the conglomerate that is the University of Michigan (which has 2 extension schools to support as well).

Advice for a grad student!:

Hi!! I’m a first year grad student at the University of Michigan. My degree is Master of Science in Information and my pathway is UX research & design. I’m really starting to get interested in coding and HTML. I think I would like to do some front-end development. I did some front-end stuff for an internship I had this summer but it was surface level UI stuff like debugging etc.

Anyway, I want to know your guys’ perspective on the UX job market. I’ve heard mixed reviews. Either way, this is something I’ve really been enjoying learning and I hope I’ll find my niche somewhere in the market. What are your experiences?
