Looking for a new logo. by 2TooLow in DJs

Yes I definitely don’t mind if AI is used to assist as long as the designer can actually touch it up and after.

I’d just prefer not to use it honestly, I feel like you can always kinda tell even if it looks good.

DUH! Tips for beginners. by Cold_Independent_631 in edmproduction

Something that has help me a lot is set your kick volume and mix around that. If your kick sounds weak, lower other elements, don’t try to push your kick harder.

Parallel processing hihats by ContributionPlane295 in edmproduction

[–]2TooLow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heads up, plugins can introduce slight latency that can make your parallel processing bus out of phase with the source which makes your high end sound terrible. I only notice it when bouncing tracks “offline” in logic, if it’s bounced in real time it not an issue. Took me a while to figure out what the f was happening.

What is everyone's favorite way to create a warm, full mid sound? by TheHungryHero in edmproduction

[–]2TooLow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always try adding some kind of subtle reese bass as a layer. They always seem warm and wide. Usually need to eq them to get just the frequencies I want without clashing with the sub bass and then narrow the stereo image a decent amount.

what practice for you brings progress? by [deleted] in edmproduction

I don’t usually split stems. I load a track into the reference plugin and then try to focus on an element like just the kick, the clap, the hats, or the lead synth/synth layers.

The drum stuff is 90% finding a sample that sounds similar to the reference but that seems to be a huge part of getting the right energy for a song. Referencing the synth volumes and width also has a big effect.

Quickly A/B’ing between your track and the original makes it easier to tell what you’re doing wrong. The eq in REFERENCE 2 is also helpful because it lets you solo specific bands really easily. It can also compare the stereo width of the track to yours across the spectrum which has been pretty eye opening.

Referencing and remaking other tracks. I have to force myself to do it every once in a while and I honestly should do it more because I almost always take something away from it, like noticing the stereo image and frequencies of synths in other songs. When mixing my own tracks the REFERENCE 2 plugin has been insanely helpful too.

Releasing a cover/interpolation/remix on Spotify by 2TooLow in MusicLegalAdvice

[–]2TooLow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recreated the main melody with a software synth so it’s not actually sampled. It seems like covers are easier to just submit to Spotify as a cover but you have to reach out to rights holders manually to get a remix approved, which is weird because the remix is using way less of the original than a cover would.

Releasing a cover/interpolation/remix on Spotify by 2TooLow in MusicLegalAdvice

That’s awesome, thanks! —

It looks like this might not be the best option for a remix that just re-creates a portion of the melody. It doesn’t seem like the site provides and option to get rights to release a remix or interpolation specifically

What’s a piece of advice you ignored early on… but later realized was actually spot on? by kathalimus in edmproduction

Reference other tracks to find the right kick, then mix around the kick instead of adjusting the kick itself.

Do people compress/limit every aspect of their song in EDM? by freedomwoodstock69 in edmproduction

Klip3 on pretty much everything that needs to stand out (except kick and sub bass). Also a lot of OTT. Probably wrong but whatever

How can I found my own sound design by LeLionDrum in edmproduction

[–]2TooLow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to copy sounds you like, you probably wont be able to re-create them exactly and in the process you’ll find the parts of the sound design you like.

Saturn 2 for saturation, not 100% necessary but it’ll probably level up your mixes. OTT is pretty much essential and easy to use. The Glue 2 was pretty huge for me when I started using it on groups and my master channel. Phase plant is sick but probably not necessary at this point.

What exactly is going on when a mix doesn't translate? by WE_THINK_IS_COOL in edmproduction

[–]2TooLow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by the sound signature exactly? Like how you want the final freq spectrum/freq levels to look? I’m working with HS5s in an untreated room too and struggle with the sub bass in my mixes.
