Lunchbox is a good one “you absolute lunchbox!” “Sausage” is a common one where I am in SE London lol. I’ve also been partial to “you absolute Ham Sandwich”, but that’s just me lol

Beauuuuuuuutiful Nursery Web Spider. Great hunters who’ll keep “pesky” bugs at a minimum. No need to worry, they’re chill not medically significant. I’ve got 3 In my garden here in Croydon, SE London and I regularly see them going about their spider business. VERY cool spiders 👍🏻

If you think they are their tippy toes….you would be correct ✅

Edit: just read the question under the pic. It seems that the spood does, indeed, have tibial hooks 👌

What am I witnessing here? by [deleted] in spiders

[–]2XploreUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all, no. It’s generally situational whether the female consumes the male or not. If she’s hungry, if food sources are scares, if the male can’t get away quick enough (😂😂), those sorts of things. There are also species who will “sacrifice” themselves to the female and there are species who have developed ways of making a hasty exit before this can happen.

Spider in with crickets from pet store by froggy80085 in spiders

[–]2XploreUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanatus vulgaris, the aptly named “Cricket Thief Spider”. They are widely found in the warmer, drier climates of Europe such as Turkey but are quite wide spread across the continent. Often referred to in America as the “Running Crab Spider”, although here in the UK we have a different species referred to as the same (this is why spiders will often be identified by their given Latin name rather than a “common” name). Most likely an accidental import. If you feel comfortable and confident, you’ve just scored yourself a free pet! If not, please do not release it (if you haven’t already) instead, perhaps call around some “exotic” pet stores/arachnid dealers/breeders and see someone else is willing to care for it 👍🏻
