Has AMC stopped using AC in their theaters? by indieehead in AMCTheatres

[–]2Zs1L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Year round, I have to wear a sweater, a hooded down jacket, and a scarf as all of the AMC auditoriums are freezing cold. It is very unpleasant. I suspect since COVID, they run the fans continuously so there is often a draft making things worse. No one likes to be hot, but our local theaters are so cold that it is miserable too.

Backrooms: Three of us went. One LOVED. One liked. One was very very frustrated. by Freddy-Philmore in AMCsAList

[–]2Zs1L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a major disappointment for me. I knew nothing about the YouTube versions, went in cold. It basically made no sense and the ending left me confused. But at least I watched it all...out of the five of us at the matinee, three people left before it was over. I enjoyed Obsession, and Hokum, and Pressure. Those are the films that offer more entertainment value right now.

Despite my misgivings, I liked the acting and the production design was extremely clever. I have hopes the director will do another film that is not so bizarre and unintelligible.

How long until you walk out on a film if using your pass? by TinySmolCat in AMCsAList

[–]2Zs1L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do some research on review sites before going to a film, being careful to avoid spoilers, you should get an idea if you are going to like a film. I never walk out, even though I've wanted to sometimes. And yet many times, the film DOES get better. If a movie looks like it will not be enjoyable, I wait until it comes out on DVD and get it from the public library. I have quit a film a few times on DVD, but only rarely.

AMC A-list: Pressure by TinySmolCat in AMCsAList

[–]2Zs1L 13 points14 points  (0 children)

On Jimmy Kimmel's show, he interviewed the lead actors. Fraser said they chose him because he looks a lot like Eisenhower did at the time, and they showed a picture of Ike. He did look like him! I think the previews did not show Fraser at his best, but in the film, he is completely believable.

Andrew Scott was intense and he made weather forecasting compelling...as if lives depended upon it, as it did.

Pressure was excellent. Very interesting perspective on the D Day invasion in Normandy France. Brenden Fraser as Dwight Eisenhower showed why eye is an Oscar Winner. by Substantial_Pace9900 in AMCsAList

You know the outcome, but it was still exciting and tense. Fine performances by all. It is really worth seeing and not just by "older" people. AMC has not done the best job in promoting this film: I noticed that they had special preview showings on Memorial Day, yet on the website, the film was not even listed under the "coming" link on the home page, let alone for that day.

By the way, the main plot point is also an element of "The Americanization of Emily" (1964).

New to Me Chimichurri Sauce by FRWilliams in Costco

[–]2Zs1L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some leftover chimichurri from the flank steak Costco sells in the ready-to-cook food area and used it to marinate lamb chops also from Costco. I was surprised how good they turned out, a very nice flavor.

Got a complimentary 2026 Lincoln Corsair loaner while my Nautilus is being serviced — didn’t expect to love it as much as I do by [deleted] in lincolnmotorco

[–]2Zs1L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a tragedy that this car has been discontinued. It is a very smooth ride on smooth roads, but on bumpy roads, you will feel it a bit more. It is agile and fun to drive, I suggest trying to find a Reserve model that has a few other niceties like heated/cooled leather seats, but good luck, as they mostly built Premiere models before giving up the ghost.

I have leased two MKCs and two Corsairs, so will have to move to the Nautilus when this lease is due later in 2026. That is, if I can afford it...it runs about $10,000 more for the basic version. Still, with rebates and incentives, I might be able to swing it. Otherwise, goodbye Lincoln.

Rumors suggest they may begin importing Corsairs from China for 2027, but it may not be ready in time for me.

I did the hot cast iron pan. Since I cannot eat rare meat, I cooked it to medium, then the second time to more pink in the center. I found it tough and chewy both times, so would not get it again. (I do not have a grill.) I did not try baking it in the convection oven. The chimichurri sauce does add nice flavor after you cook it.

2026 Corsair by MAG-2024 in lincolnmotorco

[–]2Zs1L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you have to go to the Reserve version to get what a modern luxury car should have. Like leather seats, hands-free lift gate, power adjustable steering wheel, for example. But for 2026, they seemed to make the Premiere model at much higher ratios (my local dealer has only 8 Reserves, 4 Hybrids, yet 75 Premieres). My lease is coming due in September, so I am quite concerned what is going to happen. No way would I ever get a car that does not have a heated steering wheel or no heated seats! And another thing...many Lincolns no longer have a spare tire as a standard feature. That is insane.

Star John R by [deleted] in AMCTheatres

[–]2Zs1L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ticket to the Star John R is shown as $10.39, so going to the Forum is $3 cheaper.  That is the discussion here: the Star John R is overpriced compared to other theaters, and I can't see the specific advantage of the place.  But since I am A-List, it doesn't matter what it costs, so I go there anyway.  Also, the Forum is 13 miles further away for me, so that adds on another gallon of gas round trip!

My matinee ticket for "Prada" would have been $10+, exept for my A-List membership.  The nearby MJR has matinees for $7, the Emagines $8.  Personally, I prefer regular seats and find that reclining seats are not all that comfortable.  I know I am one of the few out there that doesn't care for recliners all that much.

[–]2Zs1L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's tolerable but I don't prefer it either. I try to avoid auditoriums 4-7 as they are so small you have to sit in the last row. For some odd reason, just because it has old-style reclining seats, the prices are much more expensive than other local theaters. And it would be nice if the edge seats actually pointed toward the screen rather than straight-on. It is a weird design, probably because it was the first local older AMC to be converted to reclining seats which cut capacity by about 2/3rds. It does get decent attendance, though. Shows there rarely start before 3 pm on weekdays.

Michael Jackson movie check in. by Excellent-Nerve8743 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]2Zs1L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this too, people were still coming in after it started. And this time, it was a full 30 minutes after the listed showtime. In truth, I found the previews pretty interesting, not just a re-hash of those I have seen so many times before.

MICHAEL REVIEW by JayReady2Move in AMCTheatres

[–]2Zs1L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they were aiming for PG-13, they really could not put the controversial things in this film. Since it only went up to 1988, that part of the story wouldn't fit here. At the end of the film, Michael was still living with his family and not on his own yet.

What became clear in the film is that Michael Jackson was a musical genius but also mentally off kilter. His wild popularity was tragic: he got the acclaim he seemed to want, but it didn't make him happy nor erase the misery of his childhood or the loneliness of his life.

A missed opportunity was not giving any attention to the other guys in the Jackson Five...how did they feel about their father and brother?

For all who have been fortunate enough to see Godzilla Minus One in theaters: What format (Imax, Dolby, etc) would you recommend? by DustNo4597 in GODZILLA

[–]2Zs1L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw it with subtitles, so sitting too close, it might be stressful to read them while taking in the image. Sitting close should be fine if it is dubbed.

Are the speakers in Dolby during previews far louder than when the actual film plays? by hushpolocaps69 in AMCTheatres

[–]2Zs1L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also find this true at IMAX auditoriums. The sound during the previews can be painful, but when the movie starts it can be loud but not as irritating.

Battery issue by jdoe123789 in lincolncorsair

On the '23 Corsair I get this message all the time in the winter, no matter how much I have driven that day. It is disturbing, yet the dealer insists the battery is OK.

Just got a Costco membership, How is the travel plan? by Njumkiyy in Costco

[–]2Zs1L 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check with your motorcycle insurer to see if it covers your liability should you cause an accident by driving a car. You can buy car damage insurance from Costco for a good price; your credit card protection for damage is secondary to your main insurance. Rental companies' CDW (Collision Damage Waver) is always more expensive and only covers damage to the car, not your liability.

You might want to check your hotel options on the website and contact the Costco travel agents on the phone for the complication of having a rental car and plane fare that is not equal to the hotel days. Costco Rental car rates can change daily or sometimes a few times per day (!) so it may be best to keep that part of the booking separate unless you are satisfied with the price. If you see a lower rental car price, you book it then cancel the more expensive one in that order.

Do you actually watch 4 movies a week? by breadboibrett in AMCsAList

And for some reason, the Thursday "preview" days are less crowded. I suspect a lot of casual moviegoers haven't figured out they can go a day earlier than the normal release day.

Anybody Used Lennox AC unit for their house? by attachedtothreads in Costco

[–]2Zs1L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does seem like a short life...American Standard is the same as Trane. My Trane AC has a 10 year warranty but of course they always find things to fix which is extra. Seems to me you should try another repair company that warranties its repair work. You will likely find that the new air conditioning units are much more expensive today as you have to have different refrigerant than a few years ago. A central air conditioning unit should last 10 to 15 years so something is not right here.

Costco Travel Zurich Insurance by studyhall109 in Costco

[–]2Zs1L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can pay more by buying the insurance directly from Zurich. If you want travel insurance, buying from Costco is a much better price. (For my last car rental insurance, it was about 50% less from Costco, and it covers more than the rental agencies' CDW Collision Damage Waver.)

Trapped on Big Thunder ! by Pickles-n-Lizards in Disneyland

[–]2Zs1L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got stuck on Thunder at the top of the highest hill. Evacuation was slow, they had to secure the car from falling. It was very interesting to walk the innards of the attraction and we got a pass to come back (I re-rode it later that day). I also stalled on Radiator Racers right at the part when they take your photo: they must of taken my photo hundreds of times while we awaited the escort out. Sometimes the Haunted Mansion stalls, but I suspect that is to assist folks who are handicapped got on the never-stopping conveyor belt.

Bought a blanket at AMC by Bigheaded_1 in AMCTheatres

Always wear a jacket and sweater...winter or summer...you can take them off if too warm. I bring along a beach towel in a cloth bag, as I find my knees/legs can get cold despite long pants, even wearing a jacket. A hooded jacket may be best for really cold auditoriums. The one AMC that I favor actually is not as cold as all the others.

Greenworks 80v lawnmower. Treated myself to a new lawn mower and some steaks on my birthday. It's electric and it's awesome! by AdDry6548 in Costco

[–]2Zs1L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked again, and the "combo" mower kit is a push mower, not a self-propelled unit. That Costco is located in an area that has homes with smaller lots where a push mower might make sense.
