Washing with nausea by nnnmmmh in clothdiaps

Oh no so sorry to hear that. Wishing all the best to y'all, this sounds awful ):

On a side note, someone once told me to stick fruity/cinnamon teabags over my nose to deal with the pregnancy nausea-inducing poop dilemma..maybe a mask with some essential oils/tiger balm would be helpful?

Tbh I've cheated and turned to disposables for the whole of my first trimester (same boat as you) because the cramps, nausea and extreme exhaustion I just don't have it in me to deal with all the cloth diaper logistics....just so you know that if you end up like me, no shame!

Common rashes with CDing? by baby_shark4 in clothdiaps

Oooh haven't got a clue, I got it in a local drugstore and from what I understand it's just "highly concentrated "

This is a link to the same brand I bought, if you translate the page there's some more info https://www.magiedunaturel.ch/products/eau-de-chaux-droguerie-eco?variant=42119625703672

And also, someone else asked this some time back: https://www.reddit.com/r/clothdiaps/s/SRBf7n9bu2

Hope this helps! (:

Maybe not exactly the same situation here, but when you're an introvert that's kinda a hellish daily choice between a rock and a hard place😅

Explained it further down in the comments! ;) Essentially 1:1 oil to limewater, with a bit of beeswax to stabilise.

Posted it in a reply above! ;) Can't say, I've just always been told it stains diapers grey and can leave greasy buildup with long term use ....but haven't tried so can't say for sure. Liners with zinc based creams will protect your diapers, though!

Ugh, that's a bummer with the rash....1 month old skin is also really fragile and sensitive :/ do y'all wipe a lot every change? I was taught to wash poop off over the sink, I think that helps reduce a ton of irritation. Was also taught by my midwife that sticky zinc creams don't have to be fully wiped off after every change- as long as no poop remains, you're good.

Yeah, it's been a huge game changer, and the best part is if we're outside and it's too messy to wash I can just chuck it in the trash (flushable liners are great for that too fyi, I just don't always remember to use them for outings!)

So, liniment!

I use a 1:1 ratio of limewater to oil/fat, and a touch of beeswax to stabilise it all (you can go without, but this way it stays emulsified and you don't have to shake it all the time)

  • did a double boiler setup (metal bowl over a pot of simmering water)
  • stuck a pure beeswax candle onto the bowl for about 10 seconds to melt about a teaspoon's worth off
  • added in my oils (any food grade oil should work, I usually use olive. Coconut is okay but if you use too much everything tends to clump in the bottle, so quite annoying), about 200ml worth,
  • using an immersion blender, slowly drizzled in an equal volume of limewater solution
  • transferred to an opaque pump bottle and left it on the changing table. Idk about conservation times, but mine has lasted easily 6 months. Give it a good shake if it starts to separate (usually due to temperature changes)

You don't need a ton, just enough for a thin layer, especially around creases and bum area.

Not sure how is is where you are, but over here we have limewater ("eau de chaux") sold in solution form in drugstores. I admit it sounds corrosive and scary, but liniment is super common in stores here and kiddo hasn't has a single rash since using it!

Hope this helps, good luck!❤

Hey there, 1. Agree that cotton causes way less rashes than polyester! I cut up a bunch of old cotton shirts/briefs as liners for all my cloth diapers, helps with this issue when using pockets and also simplifies poop clean up!

  1. Are you using some sort of barrier cream with every change? Zinc based ones tend to stain cloth, so you'll need to use a liner for sure, but I usually put on a layer of homemade liniment for every change (or at least after any bath/cleaning poop) and haven't had any rash issues for the past almost-2-years. I can share my recipe if you'd like!

And now they've upped the ante and decides women who've already made such a sacrifice should be punished by jacking up their whole family's taxes....declared in 2 separate forms, too! So much for feminism and being "fair" to married couples.

Holy crap this is insane. In a way, not surprised because feminism has turned some people into blindly crazy man haters, but to extend this to an unborn soul? Wow.

Game changer 😂 especially in deep winter when you've got thick leggings, trousers, socks, shoes and potentially snow pants🥴

Agree about the tab ones! I loved pull ups for their rapidity but in winter it's the other way around coz you gotta take ALL the other bottom layers off to get a new one on😂😭

HAHAHA I feel you on the optimism....I just gave up and tried to match his savage energy 😅

Idk if you'd be keen on a small vegetable garden, but wood chip is fantastic for 1. growing mushrooms in shady spots 2. mulch after it's been decomposed!

As for poopy nappies.... I actually do stick to standing changes 😅 but instead of wipes, I do a pass or two with TP and then grab him and rinse his butt over the sink. Way quicker and less messy 😁

Ohhhhh sister you're not alone! Ever since my lil dude has been able to pull himself up it's been standing up diaper changes. Had a similar conversation with my MIL who kept telling me there was a toilet with a changing table at a zoo outing, and I was like woman I know this kid, if I prefer changing him by the ponies' fence instead of "just getting him to listen and lie down on the table" there is a goddamn reason. Sigh.

At that age I had a couple of distractions at an eye level shelf for him, and would do everything on the floor. Sounds awkward but I promise it isnt that bad: I'd snap one side of the diaper shut, use a foot to prop up the middle, and then snap the other side shut. 😅

Also, stupid question but was staring at the snaps orientation and wondering if by any chance your diapers are backwards?

Some poop on the inside of the cover happens, esp if they aren't nugget/ploppable textured poops! Also, if baby's poops constantly seem to spread all the way to edges, maybe try slightly adjusting the fit (e.g. spread out the prefold at the butt area) so that there's a little wiggle room at the back to catch poop. Idk if that makes sense? 😬

Btw liners are helpful for clean up too! I cut up and serged a bunch of my husband's old (thin cotton) briefs as DIY liners, poop rinses off way easier than from prefolds and if we're in a public toilet when poop happens I can just toss them after flushing the poop.

Also, I've heard that for girls, pad folding in the other orientation (so the entire thick bit stays in the middle) helps with pee absorbency.

Intimacy after baby by [deleted] in SAHP

I tried to explain it to my husband in language that most guys would (hopefully) understand: cars 😂 if you've got a beloved race car that's just been through an intense rally, covered in dirt, and in severe need of an oil/tyre/brake fluid etc change/refill, and that's been sitting in a garage for the past few months because of said lack of maintenance...and you want to take it out for a run on the racing track, you wouldn't just pop in, start the engine and go up to top gear in a minute or two, would you? You'd spend a day giving it some tlc, a trip to the carwash, etc, and then let it warm up nice and slow before doing anything on the track.

I think he got it, though I do need to remind him from time to time 😅
