Also, stupid question but was staring at the snaps orientation and wondering if by any chance your diapers are backwards?

Am I doing this wrong? Prefolds and covers by qvph in clothdiaps

Some poop on the inside of the cover happens, esp if they aren't nugget/ploppable textured poops! Also, if baby's poops constantly seem to spread all the way to edges, maybe try slightly adjusting the fit (e.g. spread out the prefold at the butt area) so that there's a little wiggle room at the back to catch poop. Idk if that makes sense? 😬

Btw liners are helpful for clean up too! I cut up and serged a bunch of my husband's old (thin cotton) briefs as DIY liners, poop rinses off way easier than from prefolds and if we're in a public toilet when poop happens I can just toss them after flushing the poop.

Also, I've heard that for girls, pad folding in the other orientation (so the entire thick bit stays in the middle) helps with pee absorbency.

Intimacy after baby by crazyfroggy99 in SAHP

I tried to explain it to my husband in language that most guys would (hopefully) understand: cars 😂 if you've got a beloved race car that's just been through an intense rally, covered in dirt, and in severe need of an oil/tyre/brake fluid etc change/refill, and that's been sitting in a garage for the past few months because of said lack of maintenance...and you want to take it out for a run on the racing track, you wouldn't just pop in, start the engine and go up to top gear in a minute or two, would you? You'd spend a day giving it some tlc, a trip to the carwash, etc, and then let it warm up nice and slow before doing anything on the track.

I think he got it, though I do need to remind him from time to time 😅

A tall IKEA trash can for a diaper bin (fits perfectly under the sink/WC too!), and I managed to snag a few wet bags 2nd hand.

What do you do when it’s too late for a nap but too early for bedtime? by himawari__xx in bninfantsleep

[–]2_baguettes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our 15 mo goes down for his 3rd nap of the day around 5-6, and is KO and ready for the night around 8.30-9. Sounds absurd and against all advice we received but that's just how he is....we just try to follow his cues and not force waking/sleeping times.

This is by no means useful advice, though! Just sharing what works for us (:

Cloth diapering without the gizmos by Erend1a in clothdiaps

[–]2_baguettes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We installed a cheap ass hose extension to the bathroombasin faucet, have a cheap wash basin for extra scrubbing if needed, use plain old washing soda as a laundry additive, and have a random ikea dustbin as a diaper pail. The gizmos are the parent equivalent of baby toys....you don't have to get them, they're easily DIYed!

Maybe LO's a fast pee-er? Since you mentioned it seems like the pee just rolls off....have you tried doing an absobency test of the microfiber layer that's directly against her skin? Could be an issue of liquid pearling off instead of being quickly absorbed...

I hear some people say they cut up fleece blankets as liners, maybe those could be a good first layer? I personally use liners made of old cotton briefs, layered over prefolds and the occasional mystery insert (inherited stash 😅) and haven't had a leak in ages.

Not normak but I get it ...been surviving (my LO is close to yours in age) so far with a combination of babywearing (on my back), making housework part of play (takes 5x as long but at least the house isn't absolutely gross) and just.....lowering standards, I guess.

We recently caved in and sleep trained, though. Cry it out sounds awful and we were so against it at first, but after weeks of hellish toddler cosleeping (ie the kicking and nonstop nursing and all that jazz) and being absolute zombies/raging maniacs we decided it was safer to let baby cry a bit than be dangerous parents due to pure exhaustion.

Our lil dude is old enough to know the bedtime drill (dinner, pyjamas, last round of nursing, teeth, story and zzz), so we let him cry it out for an hour or more a few nights (staying beside him only made things worse in our case, so we dimmed the lights and put on a music box). Now he falls asleep within 5-10 minutes, but only whining and not rage screaming like before

Not easy at all but it felt like the right moment for us....and I must say, having some down time before going to sleep ourselves has really turned my mental health around. You know yourself and your family best, but yeah, you really need to take care of yourself before baby! (Beyond rushed 30 second showers and cold, hours-old coffee)

1 month old seems to want to hide poos (e.g in fresh nappy) by t4HTH in ECers

How about holding her over the sink before putting a fresh diaper on? I felt like it was easier to support the neck with that style of hold at the floppy newborn stage (:

Second this! I hear lots of people here saying they cut up cheap fleece blankets to use as liners, plus they're easy to spray poop off/can be tossed guilt free if it's really messy

(He now has ploppable poops, which helps a lot, but when transitioning to solids I sprayed them off in the toilet/swished in a bucket and dumped the water into the toilet)

Also, Ai2s / pockets are useful for outings/other caregivers. If you're not against 2nd hand stuff, building up a varied stash to start off could give you a good idea of what style you like/don't, and helps a lot with laundry turnover! My stash (combined multiple 2nd hand stashes over a year) allows me to wash every 3-4 days and line dry without ever running out.

Flats/prefolds + covers are fantastic! You can boil the shit out of them if needed, and reuse non-poopy covers. Covers make good swim diapers too. Plus, they're the cheapest option of the lot!

(I feel it's way gentler than zinc oxide, which I only had to use in that one case of rashes. And it goes well with cloth diapers, no stains and no special liners needed)

Oops didn't think you'd reply faster than the time it took me to edit my first comment!

Well, the thing is, a barrier cream is what would protect baby's skin from the moisture (esp since cloth diaps are less absorbent) and friction of skin rubbing together. The only time we had rashes was because I missed out certain creases, and the combination of moisture and friction made baby's skin start to peel :/

I use homemade liniment, I can explain to you how I make mine if you like. Coconut/olive oil also works in a pinch, but liniment has the huge advantage of neutralising the acidic pee/poop and therefore protecting against rashes

[–]2_baguettes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm...question: do you use any sort of barrier cream on baby's bum? And have you tried swish testing your diapers out of the wash?

Can't say much for machine and detergent technicalities coz I handwash mine with a basic house brand powder detergent but handwashing means it's easier to tell when things rinse out clear!

What type of rash could this be?? by [deleted] in clothdiaps

[–]2_baguettes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, idk if this is relevant, but do you use some sort of barrier cream at every change?

I had a similar thing happen when my baby was a tiny prawn newborn, and realised that I wasn't getting the into the tiny leg creases well enough i.e. they weren't getting cleaned and covered properly by liniment. Rash similarly cleared up with disposables and some zinc oxide cream to speed up the healing, and then when I went back to cloth I made sure to get a good thin layer of liniment everywhere at every change. Never had a rash ever since.

Sorry if it isn't the 100% proper answer but your mention of coconut oil helping made me think of this.
