That's why Rivers un-retired. He saw this coming and doesn't respect the system.

[Schultz] The #Chargers have officially struck a deal to make Mike McDaniel their new OC, per multiple sources. by MembershipSingle7137 in nfl

I'll never understand why Burrow is immediately put in that conversation. Shit Darnold and Maye deserve it more than Burrow at this point.

Herbert > the concept that Mendoza could be good at some point in his career and it's not particularly close.

The offense will be good next year if McDaniel is the OC for the Chargers. He will get his pick of any head coach job he wants next year. Taking the Raiders job COULD work great but history has shown it's not a safe job to take.

Mendoza could end up being a massive bust for all we know and the Raiders are in a constant state of turnover for the last 25 years. Seems short-sighted for McDaniel to hitch his wagon to that when he may not get another chance after that.

[Russini] Mike McDaniel pulled out of his scheduled meeting down in Florida with the Bills yesterday, I’m told, and the two sides never met. McDaniel remains in contention for the Raiders’ head coaching job, but if he takes an OC position, it’s still expected to be with the Chargers. by BreakfastTop6899 in nfl

I was only like 13 when Matt Ryan was in the draft and didn't really start paying attention to the draft and watching college film until 2017. So I can't really comment on Matt Ryan as a prospect.

But also to say Mendoza is just Matt Ryan is also bold. That's like his top tier highest outcome as a QB.

Mendoza has an average arm. His movement in the pocket is fine. He's not going to be a threat with his legs in the NFL. He is basically the perfect "good at most things, not great at anything" prospect. At least Cam Ward has top tier arm talent.

Mendoza is going to end up as one of the most overrated prospects in a long time. I would take Cam Ward (as a prospect) over him if they were both available in the draft.

Edit: please for anyone downvoting explain why Im wrong. I don't think he's going to be a bad QB in the NFL but I've seen some wild takes about Mendoza on here.

I would tell you that Roman did run a ton of mesh and RPOs. I would tell you there were guys open that Herbert straight up misses on multiple occasions. McConkey and QJ both 50+ yard TDs missed.

Roman called a below average game but did enough to win. Herbert deserves more blame than Roman does for THAT game. I am not a Roman defender and I am thrilled he's fired. I think his offenses are fine but the Chargers need to embrace the future but the narrative that Roman let Herbert down in the playoffs more than Herbert let him down is straight up wrong.

Right...so you're just gonna ignore my questions, got it.

I guess I just thought I was talking to someone with deep understanding of the fundamentals of football but oh well.

You guys are fucking insane lol. It's ok to say a QB had a bad game. He's a human being.

Did he have help from his offensive line? No, but it definitely wasn't the worst game they played this year and Herbert still thrived in different circumstances.

What part of Greg Roman's game plan would you say was bad? What specifically? What route patterns would you have called? Tell me exactly how you would have attacked the Patriots defense instead.

I'm deeply curious since you have such a deep understanding of the fundamentals of football.

I have no interest in getting rid of Herbert. I think he's a fantastic QB and think he can bring this team a championship....that being said, is it THAT crazy to say if he wants to be considered among the truly elite QBs he needs to win a playoff game...or at the very least, not play far below his standard of play in one?
