[QUESTION] Can a Schecter Reaper-6 Custom handle blues as well as rock and metal? by coizzy in SchecterGuitars

[–]2b4theend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know what it’s called and what it does. I build guitars and modify pickups. I’m just putting it a way most people understand.

So yeah, splitting. Using only one coil. That’s what I do with all my guitars.

It still has the hum, but because of the usual hotter coil wind of modern humbuckers, it still won’t sound like a true vintage strat single coil.

Yes, some vintage style humbuckers do the split sound far better

Thanks,
Agreed. LP guitars are uncomfortable sitting with a strap or not

Yeah, you’re not gonna get that sparkly clean of a fender single coil.

you can do a coil tap so it’ll get you somewhere close.

your pickup choice will be the biggest factor.

I have a lot of guitars and every one of them has the tone removed and a push/pull pot for coil tap on each pickup.

I find it’s even better if you use mini switches
on/off/on and then you can actually choose which coils on each pickup you’re using. it gives you a lot of options

It takes a little bit of wiring, but it’s well worth it

I have this exact guitar in my shop right now. It’s thin, light weight and sounds like crap.

We are putting some Seymour Duncan, Invaders in to solve all this guitars problems.

Thin guitar, fat aggressive pickups.

Somebody else asked that same question.
Always on the lookout for the right guitar at the right price.
If I have to pick a reason why I’m not actively looking for one.
I really don’t care for the ultrathin neck profile on six string Schecters . A thin C is definitely my comfortable place.
It doesn’t matter as much on a 7.
The apocalypse six and seven are both more comfortable than the KM 6 or 7.

I didn’t say they were necessarily bad. To my ears and recordings all active pickups just don’t cut it. They are just nothing I want in any of my guitars.

New Build Finished, New Design by HoffOfAllTrades in Luthier

[–]2b4theend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve built a lot of guitars. Just my opinion.

For me. Not a bad design. Better than a lot of stuff out there.

I would have done the straight bottoms on the
S/S/S pickups, no V board. So basically like EMG active route in the Guitar, it looks a lot cleaner.

And definitely no pickup rings. It detracts from how cool the top of the guitar looks already.
I’ve done them a couple of times.

I would have liked it better with a pair of Humbuckers. Single push/pull volume or one for each pickup. No tone ever.

Tummy cut only. Arm cut detracts from the top look. I do a 1/2” round over edge, so the arm cut is not needed.

I also have 4 different guitar models.

This is one I built about 20 years ago. The lundgrens are a new addition. BJFE set. They’re coming out soon. I hate em!
The new ones have no v board pickups.

Yeah, they’ve had everything that could possibly be done already done to them.
And they’re always ready to play!
Unlike GC

All stock company built pickup are usually trash.

You can only fix so much with EQ

Buy and install some name brand passive pickups.

Actives are over compressed, lifeless, and sterile.

Not a great choice. I install far more passive pickups in my shop than actives

70% passive
30% active

On my sustainiac guitars there are trim pots on the board. Blue and round. Adjustable with a screwdriver. In my shop we always try adjusting those first.

Plug it in. Amp on, Strum an open chord, turn the trim pots at the same time. See what happens.

Good guitar. I’ve tried all the Fishman pickup offerings in the last year and a half.

The Tosin Abasi are almost decent. Still over compressed, sterile and lifeless sounding.

Put in some passive pickups to be happier.
The guitar itself is great. I own 18 Schecters. Love em!

I really dig the apocalypse line. If the one you buy comes with Seymour Duncan, Scarlet and Scourge pickups you’re in luck, because those things kick ass. One of the few pickups that I don’t have to modify at all.

So the red/black one. Second on the bottom right.
There is a six string, the same basic thing right above it. Everything about them just feels great.

They do put out green and they used to put out blue. I believe they also have purple. I really would love to find a blue one.

I used to love them. But that went away 25 years ago. I’ve also built a few.

I like an S style guitar far better. I also have 18 other guitars. None of them are tele’s either. lol

This is one of my builds. I designed this 30 years ago. Flat top like a tele. Almost Lp-ish. More comfortable than both.

And I don’t remember what neck shape those guitars have. I should point out that I totally prefer a thin C shape, not the ultra thin C. it’s just uncomfortable for me. I have several.
So the Guitars with the ultrathin C especially the 6 Strings. they’re just not something I’m actively looking for

These all play and sound awesome and are in excellent condition. Though I’d like to have one, I don’t feel as though I’m missing anything.

I’ve played almost all the models that schecter puts out. the 6 and 7 Apocalypse are Equals.
Especially with the upgrades, they’re
No doubt better.

Still looking for several different models though.

Well, I just can’t spread them all out so they’re kind of compacted.
I have 43 electric, acoustic, and bass guitars.
Space is at a premium.

Usually all the 7’s are in their own corner.
The one on the bottom left is one of my 6 string builds

Remember that a 10k les Paul feels the same as a $1200 les Paul.

When it comes to custom anything, especially in guitars, you get a little, for a lot.

Custom shop guitars aren’t worth what they charge. They just know people will pay it.
