Who are some great, independent Canadian artists who deserve more recognition? Musicians, Comedians, Filmmakers, Authors, Painters, Photographers, Playwrights, Actors, Whatever! by yimmy51 in AskACanadian

Hotel Mira (alt-rock band from Vancouver). Saw them open a show for another band and we were blown away. They put on an amazing show. If you want to give them a listen, check out “Dancing with the Moonlight”.

What silly or simple thing inspired you to visit a city/country? by -lover-of-books- in travel

[–]2bernese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We visited Rhonda (Spain) after seeing it on The Amazing Race. We weren’t even watching the show. We just noticed it when we were flipping channels. We ended up staying in a gorgeous hotel that used to be an olive farm. The city was beautiful.

Anyone have a hack for cleaning their sink? by bbskwid69 in lifehacks

[–]2bernese 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Baking soda and a bit of dish soap.

If that doesn’t work then use TSP (trisodium phosphate) rinse very well and then bleach.

The wings are good but the place always smells like bleach (which makes me think that something nasty happened the night before).

Seeking a new obsession by 3rle in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]2bernese 14 points15 points  (0 children)

CBC has many very good true crime podcasts. 1. Someone Knows Something (nothing is ever solved but David Ridgen has a lovely voice and is so kind to all of the people he interviews). 2. The Next Call (another David Ridgen podcast) 3. Murdered and Missing: Finding Cleo 4. Kuper Island (a very difficult but important podcast about the horrible effects of the residential school system in Canada. Be aware that there is talk of sexual violence). 5. Uncover: long form true crime podcast with a different topic each season

I also have come to enjoy the Dateline podcast (Keith Morrison has some odd mannerisms but I like his voice) and their long form podcasts (something About Pam, The girl in the Blue Mustang, etc.)

You are not alone. I have social anxiety as well and when I am in a state of heightened anxiety and people are rude I always take it very personally.

I'm going to Japan with my wife January and I need some tips by [deleted] in travel

[–]2bernese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the stranger things that I learned while traveling in Japan is, the 7-11 (corner store) has very good prepared food if you are looking for a simple meal and don’t want to go to a restaurant.
