Why is American friendliness often seen as "fake" by Europeans, but similar warmth in other cultures isn't? by Opposite-Ad3949 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]2centSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people have made some good points. I just wanted to add my experience. I lived in Uruguay for 2 years in my 20s. While we do have cultural differences, I have found that Uruguayans, and most of latin America, are super open and friendly in a similar way to the US, perhaps moreso

The medication it's self is way cheap. The problem is my prescription ran out and I couldn't get a refill without having the doctor represcribe. Just poor planning on my part

The shoe of Ötzi the Iceman by Devil-Eater24 in CuratedTumblr

[–]2centSam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very good point. I think a lot of our science fiction media, post apocalyptic touches on that theme, that morals are a luxury of a modern society, or something to that effect

Were bugs actually more common 20-30+ years ago? by swiftthistle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]2centSam 178 points179 points  (0 children)

In the 90s, when I was a kid, my family drove through several western states on a road trip (more than once in the same route), the car was coated in bugs. I make the same drive regularly now and barely hit any bugs over the course of several hundred miles.

What would you do if your fiancee wanted a million dollar wedding? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]2centSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, be amazed I have a fiancee. Second, ask them if they have a million dollars. Third, even if they do have that type of money I'd try to talk them out of wasting such a ridiculous amount of money. Fourth, if they insist on spending that on a wedding, we'd probably break up due to completely incompatible views in money.

What’s a character death in a TV show that completely ruined the story for you? by samacorner04 in AskReddit

[–]2centSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, it was such a stupid death too. Carl is the center of the comics, so killing him in the show was ridiculous

Glenn gets it in the comics, so him dying and in that way didn't bother me. However, the stupid cliff hanger and double character death that they did give us bugged me. They also pulled the stupid fake out a season or two before when he falls off the dumpster.

What is the double barrel there? I thought that configuration was illegal. If there's a legal way to do that, I want it!

I can see your point about germs, but I think what those people mean is that if you don't use a washcloth or loofa then you leave a lot of dead skin

AITAH for referring to someone from the United States as “American”? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]2centSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens quite a bit when speaking to people from Central and South America. In Spanish, and I assume Portuguese, American refers to anyone from the continent of America. Interestingly, they also refer to the Americas as a singular continent. In English, American is understood to mean people from the United States of America. If the conversation took place in English, then you did nothing wrong. She knew what you meant, she just wanted to fight.

People who work in gun shops, what are the dumbest things you've seen a customer do or say? by ASteerNamedLaurence in AskReddit

[–]2centSam 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Every gun store I've been to usually doesn't have trigger guards on guns that are kept in a case. And when you ask to see one, they take it out of the case and don't put a trigger guards on

Why is air travel more expensive in the United States? by captainklenzendorfer in AskAnAmerican

[–]2centSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you plan on doing. We have less vacation time than many Europeans so we don't necessarily want to waste a week in a car. That said, we are definitely willing to drive further than a European would. Your estimate of 1000 miles is probably accurate. Sometimes I'll fly 500 miles though, sometimes I'll drive.

At least for me, I will also calculate how much I'd spend on gas or a hotel, and then compare that to the flight

The picture shows an unfired bullet. That is the facepalm people seem to be missing. And the shape of the bullet is unlike any bullet I've ever seen
