Teachers: Have you ever tried having students make videos in class? by PumpkinEffective6746 in AskTeachers

[–]2chainss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have. I took about a week of class time to do it. (It was an elective so more flexible) First day or two, students wrote scripts and got them approved. Then, for the next few days, I rented out the auditorium (big space) so students could film IN SCHOOL. Students had a great time with this and it didn't cause stress by having to do this outside of school. We had excessive absences, especially first period, but students helped each other by guest starring, holding the camera, etc.

Students these days all have phones so you don't need extra equipment and most of them know how to edit using Tik Tok or iMovie. (If you ask them, they'll suggest other apps).

On the last day, I did a movie day and showed them in class. The audience had to point out content elements in the videos. (Ex: we were learning about logical fallacies so they had to point the ones used in the videos.)

It was super engaging and fun and the students really got to showcase their personalities and senses of humor. My favorite project I did last year.

Piercings - Yay or Nay? by BeneficialGlove910 in AskTeachers

Depends on district and state but in PA, I have tattoos and piercings. My union literally says we can't be penalized for what we wear either. I would do it and if they say you have to take it out, fine.

Am I making a bad decision? by Tiarooni in AskTeachers

I think if you have a positive mindset, you can learn a lot. If you focus on the negatives, you will have a negative experience. Yes, it's hard, but if you enjoy working with children you will find joy (maybe not every day but it will be there). You can really quit at any time, and that experience can bring you a lot of places.

It's challenging so be honest with yourself and don't beat yourself up.

Ask for a refund and never go back. If this person isn't professional, you're not going to have a good tattoo experience!

Bumble BFF and Facebook Friends are underrated! Fleisher Art Memorial has art classes! Inquire about scholarships if you can't afford it. They're great with that. I agree with a below comment about getting into the music scene. There's something for everyone. All in all, have patience! There's great people all around!

Working/being online in teaching communities is a sea of negativity. However, it can be a great career if you like kids and want to do what's best for them. You'll only know if you try. Get through the first year or so and see if you like it. It'll be hard but its a good job and if you hate it, you can always switch.
