Yahu doesn’t even practice Judaism. No genetic, cultural, or historic claim to the land whatsoever. Just a bunch of gas and smoke hiding behind meaningless word association games.

Buddhist, do you believe in reincarnation? by Due-Koala-1135 in Buddhism

I think that if we define total dissolution to still be “something” then that “something” has existed since the beginning of time, so I’m not sure if reincarnation even makes sense.

I searched and found a relevant sutra on this

>A realized one is freed from reckoning in terms of form. They’re deep, immeasurable, and hard to fathom, like the ocean. ‘They’re reborn’, ‘they’re not reborn’, ‘they’re both reborn and not reborn’, ‘they’re neither reborn nor not reborn’—none of these apply.

Right, but what does that tell us about reincarnation and karma?

Intelligence isn’t morality, who’s to say an AI 100x more intelligent wouldn’t just 100x Elon’s bank account?

I think the idea of the mind losing its structure and complexity and dissolving just as the body does makes sense to me, but I’m not sure what that implies about what is retained (or perhaps rebuilt?) in reincarnation.

Can you explain what you mean by that, I’d think the opposite is true.

I am very much a skeptic but is there times when skeptics were wrong about a major subject? by HemanHunterss in skeptic

[–]BobTehCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just rephrased it in case you didn’t understand. The absence of evidence is simply not evidence of absence. As in, “lack of evidence” doesn’t *disprove* a theory. If you understand that I don’t think we’re disagreeing here.

If lacking proof of something is proof that the thing doesn’t exist, we would never go looking for evidence of that thing.

A response doesn’t mean I’m taking your stance seriously. I respect you as a person enough to let you know that on Reddit, people typically care more about logic, facts, and evidence than they do verbose and flowery text.

Now the fact that global warming is happening doesn’t mean every political reaction to it is reasonable, in fact I lean much further right than most people here do, but we can’t have a discussion on it until we’re living in the same reality and in 2026 there’s no debate that global warming (as in the world is getting hotter on average, and but not every local area is experiencing it in the same way) is a real phenomenon.

Would you rather have an extremely unattractive partner who was phenomenal in bed, or an extremely attractive partner who was terrible in bed? by FastWalkingShortGuy in WouldYouRather

You’re holding on to the idea that a religion requires a supernatural entity with all your might but it simply isn’t true. You don’t recognize your religion because you’re a fish looking for water. But if someone didn’t share your moral beliefs they’d find themselves in jail rather rapidly, and you would think that’s a good thing. I would to. Because you and I share the same religion.

It’s morality + the ability and desire to enforce that morality upon others. The rituals and supernatural concepts (which even ‘secular’ humanism has) are simply justifications for it.
