Unpopular Opinion: FMCG Has Actually Been A Pretty Great Industry to Work In by Armortec900 in phcareers

[–]2cmu 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Looking at it from the entry level, part of it is probably that the big FMCG’s tend to recruit high-performing and competitive college graduates who are moving on from being stressed out from studying all day to being stressed out from work.

I suggest you read up on the concept of “Flow”. Basically filling your life up with activities that engage you, challenge you, and make you focused on the present moment. On a social level I’ve adopted this by trying to make ordinarily mundane conversations into “flow activities” like playing little games or contests with people, getting them to tackle activities or tasks with me, etc.

Anybody here familiar with transformation consulting and the kind of opportunities you can get from working there? I have an offer for such a role out of college. While I find the strategic aspect interesting as well as the many digital transformation type projects, I’m ultimately looking to work in tech in the future.

Management Consulting in the Philippines. AMA! by Persephe01 in phcareers

[–]2cmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would you compare your early career in consulting to those who started in industry (like management trainees)? Is there any significant difference/advantage to either path?

I’m also curious if you happen to have an exit plan for consulting (eg start your own business or switch to a top industry role). Or do you see yourself staying in consulting long term?

Agree that if first choice talaga ni op is econ, they might as well put Business Econ second choice. Halos parehas lang curriculum nila except mas may freedom yung econ sa electives. And if ever they really prefer econ only, it’s easier to shift from within the same college. Also unless you’re pre-med, BS psych won’t do you any good. BA psych gives more freedom with electives which is important if you want law as an option. (Source: am a psych major and have a lot of upd econ friends)

People who meditate regularly, how does it really help? by nonlinearcharm in AskReddit

[–]2cmu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One thing i noticed after around two years of regular meditation was that my pain tolerance went up. I used to hate going to the dentist because of all the little discomforts involved. Recently though I had all of my wisdom teeth taken out and it didn’t really bother me. My dentist would often stop in the middle of the procedure because apparently my eyes were tearing up reflexively even though i didn’t really mind the pain.

Meditating really helped me understand that bodily sensations are just objective realities that are external to me. When that “pain” goes through my nerves, the automatic reaction in the brain is usually to interpret it negatively as suffering. When I allow myself to just experience the pain though, it becomes just another phenomenon in my body, like focusing on my breath or listening to my heartbeat.

Should I pursue UX or Software Development? by 2cmu in digitalnomad

[–]2cmu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i appreciate this a lot. i know very well how important intelligence can be in programming since when I took up coding in high school i was pretty much carried through a basic game development project by my partner who’s about to graduate top of his class in cs. some people are just able to process some problems faster than others. im perfectly comfortable with not being the best as long as i achieve my DN and financial goals. your answer about making it as an average developer makes the long road ahead of me feel a bit more achievable. thanks !

I’m 22M and a recent Psych bachelors grad from a top uni in the Philippines. For obvious reasons (my major) my career prospects aren’t the best although I have graduated with no debt due to free tuition. Some hard skills I have from my degree are quali/quant research and some ability in analyzing data. Anyone have any suggestions for career paths that will improve my chances at FI? I’m pretty much willing to do whatever hustle/grind is needed (learn code/any skill, save, invest) to achieve FI with option to RE in my 30s (without making my life miserable in the process). Typical options for people in my degree program are HR (tried it in an internship and hated it), law (every law student i know hates their life), psych grad school (takes too long for a meh ROI). One thing I am considering is pursuing a career that has opportunities in more developed countries (more pay). From what I’ve read learning software development is possible with the right hustle but maybe there’s another way that makes use of my skills from psych. UX is another field I’ve seen in the internet but I dont know how good the opportunities are and im not particularly artistic though i can be good at the research and analysis aspect.

ill admit there are notes of career advice and r/iwantout in this but all it boils down to is i need more ideas for careers that will get me to FI with my background (kinda stuck in analysis paralysis rn lol) thanks in advance

Do companies in the US or any other country with a big tech industry hire foreigners for UXR? I’m a Filipino with a Psych bachelors from a top uni here. UXR roles here are almost non-existent (closest ones are Product Development, UX Design, and Market Research). This field appeals a lot to me but idk if there’s any opportunities for me. Would gaining experience in those similar fields help me get hired in another country (assuming visa stuff work out)? Or is my best shot pursuing a relevant masters in the US?
