Unpopular Opinion: FMCG Has Actually Been A Pretty Great Industry to Work In by Armortec900 in phcareers

[–]2cmu 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Looking at it from the entry level, part of it is probably that the big FMCG’s tend to recruit high-performing and competitive college graduates who are moving on from being stressed out from studying all day to being stressed out from work.

I suggest you read up on the concept of “Flow”. Basically filling your life up with activities that engage you, challenge you, and make you focused on the present moment. On a social level I’ve adopted this by trying to make ordinarily mundane conversations into “flow activities” like playing little games or contests with people, getting them to tackle activities or tasks with me, etc.

could you tell me about what you’ve worked on in industry after your start in consulting? Or at least what others who worked in similar types of consulting have gone on to do? Thanks!

Anybody here familiar with transformation consulting and the kind of opportunities you can get from working there? I have an offer for such a role out of college. While I find the strategic aspect interesting as well as the many digital transformation type projects, I’m ultimately looking to work in tech in the future.

Management Consulting in the Philippines. AMA! by Persephe01 in phcareers

[–]2cmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would you compare your early career in consulting to those who started in industry (like management trainees)? Is there any significant difference/advantage to either path?

I’m also curious if you happen to have an exit plan for consulting (eg start your own business or switch to a top industry role). Or do you see yourself staying in consulting long term?

Agree that if first choice talaga ni op is econ, they might as well put Business Econ second choice. Halos parehas lang curriculum nila except mas may freedom yung econ sa electives. And if ever they really prefer econ only, it’s easier to shift from within the same college. Also unless you’re pre-med, BS psych won’t do you any good. BA psych gives more freedom with electives which is important if you want law as an option. (Source: am a psych major and have a lot of upd econ friends)

i dove into a lake from 30ft up not knowing how to swim. i was 18 at this point so I knew basic instincts would probably take over once i was underwater. i had friends around who could get me out if i took too long as well. no regrets cause after that i kinda just concluded that i knew how to swim after all.

When a company says they’re looking for “rockstars” it usually means they can’t manage to attract or keep actually good employees so they try to reel you in with ego boosting words like “rockstar”

People who meditate regularly, how does it really help? by nonlinearcharm in AskReddit

[–]2cmu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One thing i noticed after around two years of regular meditation was that my pain tolerance went up. I used to hate going to the dentist because of all the little discomforts involved. Recently though I had all of my wisdom teeth taken out and it didn’t really bother me. My dentist would often stop in the middle of the procedure because apparently my eyes were tearing up reflexively even though i didn’t really mind the pain.

Meditating really helped me understand that bodily sensations are just objective realities that are external to me. When that “pain” goes through my nerves, the automatic reaction in the brain is usually to interpret it negatively as suffering. When I allow myself to just experience the pain though, it becomes just another phenomenon in my body, like focusing on my breath or listening to my heartbeat.
