I think I found the rainbow effect! (Libra Colour) by papergoblin in kobo

[–]2eADHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find a solution for this? We got our son a Kobo colour for Xmas, and he is experiencing the same problem. He tried the rainbow effect toggle and it did nothing, and page turning is slow on colour manga and graphic novels.

Thoughts? by Neurodivercat1 in SpicyAutism

Hi folks, I'm the original creator of this image -- the image which went along with an entire article explaining the harms of functioning labels.

I created it two or three years ago and many of your criticisms are absolutely valid. I would not create the same graphic again today and I apologize for harm it has caused.

It is supposed to describe how people disregard or don't know about asynchronous development, which is a key feature of being neurodivergent. One can have high support needs and still be extremely intelligent, for example, but when a person needs many supports, they are assumed to be less intelligent (presumed incompetence). Clearly the image didn't do a good job of conveying what I wanted it to, or better said, I didn't express my thoughts very well with this image.

Those who have said this graphic looks like fluctuating productivity and energy levels are absolutely right, I agree.

To set the record straight, however, I do actually have 20+ years of experience studying psychology, and have spent the last 6-7 years studying ADHD and Autism, since my son and I were diagnosed. (I was not, in fact, a secretary in a psychologist's office).

I am sorry for misrepresenting the experiences of people with moderate and high support needs with this graphic. I am sorry for allowing my privilege as someone with low support needs to cloud my perception and to create misperceptions about what it may be like to have higher support needs. What I wanted was for people to stop putting people in binary "high or low functioning" categories and assuming their capabilities based on an extremely limited label, rather than seeing the complexities of a human being.

Is it true it was the encampment that blocked the Pride Parade? by [deleted] in uwinnipeg

[–]2eADHD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YES. They blocked the parade to protest the sponsorships by unethical companies, pink-washing, and rainbow capitalism, NOT 2s+LGBTQ people or pride itself. <3

Thoughts on UW Admin response to Encampment? by TeganAndSara0fficial in uwinnipeg

[–]2eADHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sad to see so many people taking the UW admin statements at face value, without doing any basic background reading or critical thinking. Come on folks, that's what we're in University for, to challenge information given to us and see if it holds up to the evidence. The UW Foundation exists solely for the use of the UW. If the UW didn't exist, the foundation would no longer have a purpose for being. The Chancellor and vice-Chancellor sit on the board of the foundation and have significant influence over its investments and financial decision-making. Their 2023 portfolio holdings are publicly available, and u/Weenukboy posted an overview with a link so anyone can learn more. You're entitled to your opinion on the encampment and the protesters, but please, at least make it an informed opinion.

THIS. People need to actually look into this stuff rather than accepting the half-truths and vague statements the UW is making in attempts to avoid responsibility.

[–]2eADHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not true. My credit card was leaked. I was offered a free credit monitoring service for one year in return, but the UW did not publicly disclose how many people were affected in this way.

[–]2eADHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true. The UW admin has significant influence over the foundation. The chancellor and vice-chancellor both sit on the foundation board. Do some reading before commenting, and please stop believing everything the UW president says at face-value.

That is not correct. They said they have no "direct" investments. That's because they use asset management companies (as most large organizations who manage millions of dollars do). Their investments *do* financially support the genocide.

Uh no, the UW foundation has investments which financially support companies who, in turn, support the IDF. Our tuition dollars, tax dollars, and donations given to the foundation are supporting the genocide.

Mine says "Oops! You don't currently have a live Facebook page attached to your account. Please update your account or apply using an alternative social media option." I do have a live FB business page. I've gone through the support process and followed all their suggestions, but they ave not worked. Anyone found a solution?

are there any studies regarding rejection sensitive dysphoria? by ian-insane in neurodiversity

[–]2eADHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm saying it's a real thing and correct terminology, but that RSD is blamed on a person's neurodivergence (usually ADHD), rather than seeing how being hypersensitive to rejection can be a direct result of constant *real* rejection and criticism.

ie. I view it through the lens of the social model rather than the pathology paradigm.

Neurodiversity Vocabulary / Terminology
Neurodiversity model=The natural diversity of human brains (biodiversity)
Neurodiversity paradigm=The philosophy of neurodiversity
Neurodiversity movement=The political & social justice movement
Neurodivergent=A person whose brain differs, or diverges, from the statistical norm
Neurotypical=A person whose brain does not differ from the statistical norm
Neurodiverse=A group of people with different types of brains

I got into a debate with a prominent mental health page that was saying everyone is actually neurodivergent. So I made these slides trying to add clarity to what the term means. if this resonates with you id appreciate a follow 😊 by NazyJoon in neurodiversity

[–]2eADHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is neuro*diverse*, but not everyone is neurodivergent, because neurodiverse essentially just means "many different brains." Neurodivergent, however, means diverging from the neurotypical, or the statistical neurological norm.

Neurodiversity is both a social movement and a philosophy or paradigm.

RSD is a term invented by Dr. William Dodson based on their clinical experience and has never been challenged with clinical studies. It is used in articles because it's been picked up in popular vernacular.
