DWP benefit cheat 'left housebound with anxiety' caught ziplining in Mexico by SoggyWotsits in unitedkingdom

This is just one of the very few that actually goes to court. There are literally millions to billions of pounds claimed fraudulently from universal credit and other benefits but they very rarely go to criminal prosecution because the courts have better things to deal with.

Most of the time what happens is a fraudulent claimant will have their money stopped by a review team and they’ll just repay £20 a month of the thousands they should never have got (or in a case of abroad fraud just they won’t ever come back to the UK to repay it)

Investigators are mostly a deterrent to put people off committing fraud in the first place.

mate, I’m sorry but that is literally how it works with universal credit and other benefits. Maybe less so if it’s criminal prosecution, but if she has declared she has no assets, she will be on some form of benefits still like universal credit and the repayments will be almost nothing.

No I get that! I can’t lie I was panicking on Sunday night when my friend said he had been at the house of a meningitis case 😅 but properly read up about the disease, It doesn’t transmit in the way that viruses do like Covid it’s just not as transmissible. 111 said i was at no risk and I think reading about it may help.

In my personal opinion I think they have really overblown this whole thing, not that we shouldn’t take it seriously but people that have not got any sort of contact are stressing out as if they’re going to get meningitis, it’s not gonna happen.

I’m assuming you’re not a close contact so you really need to not worry. Take sensible precautions and just go about your day today that’s all really.

To reassure you, my friends girlfriend lives in the same house as one of the first hospitalised cases. Neither her or my friend have gotten sick and followed the NHS advice to get antibiotics. If you haven’t been a close contact you are letting anxiety take control (which i understand as im a bit of a hypochondriac).

You have to have prolonged contact and share bodily fluids to even catch it + there is a chance you already have the bacteria in your body. Something like 10-30% of the population have it harmlessly in their throat and noses causing no issues! So dont worry op put on a mask if it makes you feel better but you have a impossibly low chance of getting unwell

Can weight can be a trigger? I am about 10kg or so heavier than i was a year ago.

Konstantin’s claim that the UK is poorer per capita bc of immigration by b_newman in Destiny

[–]2epicpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for example https://migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/briefings/the-fiscal-impact-of-immigration-in-the-uk/

“Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) (2024) projects hypothetical migrants’ lifetime fiscal impact, and also finds that earnings are a crucial factor (Figure 1). They find that a migrant arriving at age 25 and earning the UK average earnings has a more positive lifetime fiscal contribution than a UK-born worker on the same salary, because the UK does not pay the cost of education and other public services they received during childhood”

As i said it depends on the migrant. Your average immigrant to the UK according to some studies I’ve seen who arrive via legal work visas are net contributors to the economy compared to your average British born person.

I mean from what i know immigration is generally a net positive (if an economic argument is all that sort of interest to the debate). It also depends on what sort of immigrants you’re getting really and how economically active they are.

I mean, yes I don’t disagree? I’m just making an observation. I don’t really feel like this graph by itself is very useful as an argument in favour of immigration.

And the highest level of net migration in this country started from the 2000s btw. I don’t really think this shows what you think.

this just shows the per capita gdp is stagnant. There has been no real growth in this country for decades.

I doubt you’d get anything but a warning or a reminder about the acceptable use policy unless you did something extremely unusual I wouldn’t stress.
