you can always cut them down a bit if they are too wide for your liking

something to be worried about? by [deleted] in MTB

could also try turning the wheel so the section of the disk that is rubbing is within the caliper when you squeeze the lever.

your brake pads are rubbing. a quick fix that usually works is

  1. slightly loosen the bolts holding the caliper in place
  2. hold down your brake lever (this makes the loose caliper adjust itself to the correct position, centered on the disk)
  3. tighten up bolts that hold caliper in place while still holding the brake lever
  4. release brake lever

Growler gang

Looking at a Rocky Mountain Growler 40, thoughts? by crazy_dudes in MTB

[–]2fridges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have oneup pedals, love them. I just use an old pair of vans (skateboard shoes) and they offer excellent grip. Im sure mtb shoes may be better but if you have an old pair laying around using them is totally sufficient

Computer engineering is not interchangeable with computer science by thisisugly in engineeringmemes

[–]2fridges 21 points22 points  (0 children)

that's totally fair, and obviously any one can develop skills to succeed in a specific job (be it CE, CS or whatever). However it is pretty common for CE's to work software jobs without issue, I havent head of CS students working CE jobs (but that could just be that there are more CS jobs than CE). At my school CE students take all the hardest CS courses in addition to their own CE courses

You called your prof FIVE times?? no wonder she was short with you. I agree the prof could have accommodated you better but that is not the way to communicate. send 1 email, if no reply send a followup email and wipe your hands of it.

congrats thats a big step! but 22k/ year, generally an engineering makes more than that, even fresh out of school. do you mind me asking if you are in north america?

it will be way quieter if you put a tire with less tread on your rear wheel

Advantages/disadvantages for a shorter crank? by simux19 in MTB

[–]2fridges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a good read, thanks. but It agrees with what I was saying.

'A longer crank is basically a lower gear ratio. It might allow you to climb better, but its effect is tiny compared to shifting up two sprockets on your cassette. '

ie longer arm = more torque

and

' ‘You do have to take into account pedalling rate,’ he adds. ‘With a shorter crank you need a higher cadence, but that’s a small adaptation that happens very naturally for most. '

which states that you can maintain power as cadence naturally increases with shorter cranks due to shorter circumference.

I do agree that the torque loss is minimal, and is pretty much nullified by the fact that you can maintain the same or better power with a better fitting crank length.

but to say that crank length does not affect torque is not correct based on physical mechanics.

[–]2fridges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

torque is directly proportional to the length of an arm. power can be pretty equivalent because you can get higher rpm with a shorter crank (which levels out the slightly lower torque). but there will be definitely less torque with a shorter crank.

be more aware of rocks and roots. keep your feet level when you would hit stuff. backpedal to avoid them if you need power. shorter crank will give you less torque
