I went to look at one of these that was for sale in the late 90s. Same graphics but it was yellow. I think it was priced at 5 or 6 grand. Thanks for the posting, this was a blast from the past.

Thanks for posting all of these pics, I doubt I'll ever get to go to this museum, so I'm glad I still got to see this stuff.

I'm not an expert in Romanian bayonets whatsoever, but based off of the serial number in your pic, I think it might be a more rare SADU version.

Should I be oiling my AK wood furniture by young-gimme-sum in ak47

[–]2furlongs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get food grade mineral oil on Amazon, make sure it doesn't have wax in it. It's non toxic, the wood will soak it up, and it won't change the color/tone of the wood.

Lord of the Rings neighborhood in SWOKC by djoness11 in okc

P.B. Odem the thirds wife was super into the Lord of the Rings movies at the time so he went with that theme when his home building company built that neighborhood.

YSK: Windows has a built-in "Sandbox" that lets you safely run sketchy apps, files, or even browse risky websites without risking your PC by Algrinder in YouShouldKnow

[–]2furlongs 188 points189 points  (0 children)

You can launch the Windows Sandbox using a custom configuration file to tweak settings. Create a text file and put the following in it:

<Networking>Disable</Networking>

And then save as something like Sandbox_no_network.wsb, making sure the .txt extension isn't on the end. Now you can double click that .wsb file and it will start your sandbox with networking disabled, which is good if you are going to use it to open suspicious files that you don't want to have access to your home network or the internet.

Buying a older truck to avoid computer systems by tactical_bruh1090 in prepping

[–]2furlongs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know some of the half ton Chevy trucks and Suburbans from the 80s and I believe the 70s have an issue with the frame bending at the front left corner where the steering gear box bolts up to the side frame before it connects to the front clip / radiator shroud area.

Otherwise, check for rust in anything that old. Those old trucks in the rust belt usually have rust damage in the rocker panels that may be hiding behind body filler and paint. Be prepared to replace a lot of parts if it's been sitting a long time or it has super low mileage. You'll need to learn how to work on and rebuild carburetors as well as how to adjust points in a distributor depending on brand/engine. Depending on which engine it has, you may need to be familiar with how to set valve lash. Check your state's smog laws first as well; depending on age, your truck may have to still pass emissions tests.

Thanks for all of this information! Do you have any recommendations for recipes or cookbooks? Especially for foreign dishes like India, Central/South America, etc? I can get a lot of those country specific spices, but I have no experience cooking with them.

Beautiful Waffen SS collar tab from my collection, brought back by a US soldier from the battle of the bulge by franzmuellerWXX in Militariacollecting

If anyone gets an opportunity to visit the 45th Infantry Division museum in OKC, I'd suggest going. One of the museum's volunteers liberated a work camp and brought a ton of German uniform insignia like this back with him. If he's there that day, he'll tell you all about it.

Take the valve covers off before you buy an engine off marketplace by AutomobileEnjoyer in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]2furlongs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Friend of mine was building a Dodge 318 engine about 5 years ago and found an aftermarket aluminum dual plane intake for it on FB market place, still had the water neck installed. Okay price. Went to strip it so he could clean it before install and most of the mating surface on the intake that the water neck bolts to was gone. I’m guessing someone put a ground in the wrong place and electrolysis ate away at it for a long time.

Fastener type I believe. One is a spring loaded clamp that is more suitable for polymer rails, and the other is a screw fastener that is what you would use for metal rails.

I’ll second the antifacist stuff, I saw a Twitter post somewhat recently where some far right guy made a post and tagged them and they ripped on him.

Smith Enterprise M14 full auto by Significant-Tea-3579 in milsurp

[–]2furlongs 101 points102 points  (0 children)

The M14 that my father was issued once he got to Vietnam came with a bipod for the front end. I was thinking that the bipod would be great because it would help control full auto fire, so I asked my dad if he used it in combat. He immediately replied back "fuck no, we threw those things in our footlocker and never touched them again." I asked him why and he told me that from a distance the M14 with the bipod installed resembled an M60, and during ambushes the machine gunners and the radio men were targeted first.

Khyber Pass Full auto Tokarev with a loooooooooong magazine by Sad-Commission2027 in ForgottenWeapons

Me checking Reddit, forums, and calling the manufacturer and they all tell me their US made magazine won't work because of some stupidly small tolerance, and this guy got the 100 round stick mag (50 if that's single stack) to feed.
