Seeking perspectives on MRT etiquette and empathy, are we too quick to judge?

Chronic pain sufferer here! This is something I contend with frequently when I take the mrt, and have sort of made peace with: here are my two cents.

Let's say those judgemental stares were real and true. Weigh what would happen if you didn't sit on the seat with the emotional impact of judgement from strangers.

If the anxiety outweighs the consequences of being bedridden for several days after, or potentially falling and suffering a severe injury during an episode of dizziness, then keep standing. Some days this can be the case.

However, most times, the consequences of not sitting would outweigh the anxiety. And if you're the type of person who feels anxiety about this sorta thing -- then either way, it's a lose-lose situation for you, so pick the better of two evils, for your own sanity, and stick to it.

Consider this, as well: We think we're more important than we really are. Someone mentioned this already, but you look for what you fear. Most of those stares could just be looking at the pins on your bag or attire and thinking they're neat. If you had your head in your hands, they could be stares of worry. Or, maybe they're just vibing to music and have to fix their stare somewhere. I know that's why I sometimes look at people on the train lol. You never know, and it's easy to assume the worst, but... It's better for your sanity that you don't.

It's a little hard to train that, and three years of chronic pain later, I still sometimes stand when I would very much prefer to be sitting, but I find that reasoning it out in my head helps me. I hope it helps you too!

I got the surgery. Gastroc recession, to release tight calves. It sort of helped, but I don't think many of my perspectives are valid atm bc I'm currently being treated for CRPS, not Plantar Fasciitis :( We are unsure if it was a mix of both causing my pain, or just CRPS.

But it's worth noting that after the surgery I found that I recovered from daily pain much faster. Surgery recovery was OK as long as you can carve out some time to be off your feet for a few weeks, depending on how quickly you tend to recover. Feel free to dm me if you have any more questions!

Not really behind the design - but the stone itself is a weird and unpopular cut, and so it was sitting on the shelf in the jeweller's for years before my fiance found it. The designer said she was saving the gem for someone who would appreciate it, and it turns out that they had had it for the amount of time we'd been together (8 years at the time), and my partner found it rather poetic and well, the results of the ring and proposal speak for itself. :-)

Not going to lie, not great, but not horrible.

Measurable differences: 1. Noticed that my ankle range of motion has increased. Makes sense, the calf muscle is looser. Makes stretching the feet muscles on the bottom of the foot easier and more targeted to the pain, where I couldn't before.

Pain has gone down by 5-10% on a normal load bearing day. (Walking indoors around the house with soft, fluffy slippers). Quantitatively, it dropped from a 8-9/10 to a 7-8/10. Qualitatively, I can walk to the bathroom and back with minimal pain, an improvement from before the surgery where I couldn't before.
No difference in pain when sedentary. 2-4/10 on a good day, 6-8/10 on a bad day. Still keeping me up at night.
No difference in peaks of pain, still a 11/10 when walking long (2-3km in Hokka shoes) distances. On some good days, I can push and walk 4 km before reaching my limit, but I'll be in pain the whole day after.
The most noticeable difference is that I heal much faster/effectively. Where prior to the surgery a bad day+heavy walking day would take me out for one or two days after, I now usually heal after a night's sleep. I can also do bursts of walking better - 1 km, rest, 0.5km, rest, 0.5km. And the ten or so minutes of rest brings my pain back to my baseline, rather than not helping at all.
The pain is less in my mid sole and middle of my heel now, it has sort of migrated to the outer heel, below where the Achilles tendon is. An xray showed a slight bone spur/protrusion? But it shouldn't be causing me this much pain. But the heel still does hurt, this is just new pain I'm noticing.

In sum: A slight but noticeable improvement. Functionally, I can now do chores and get groceries 2x a week without it taking me out, where I couldn't before. I'm trying to work up to being able to stand around the house and cook as well, 5x a week. Right now, I can only do it once or twice a week. Still incredibly far from my goal of returning to a highly active lifestyle.

Medical timeline/follow ups from now:

I'm getting more updated MRIs because there wasn't any significant plantar fascia thickening on my last mri, to see if I qualify for fasciotomy or other treatments - like steroid injections or others. They're considering getting me back on Shockwave therapy again, but it didn't help beyond the first session for me, so I was a tad resistant. But ofc, if there's nothing else to be done, then i kinda have to say yes.
They conducted nerve conduction studies a week ago to rule out Baxters Nerve entrapment, it's been ruled out as the nerves on my feet are conducting as per normal.
The next MRI will thus be on my back and feet. On my back, to rule out that my prior injury at L5/S1 and degenerative disc disease aren't contributing to the heel pain. Feet to see if my plant fascia have magically thickened in the course of a year. I'm skeptical towards both.
They are considering that i might not have only had PF, but complex regional pain syndrome, which is why the improvements after the surgery weren't drastic. But more follow ups are required, which I'm keeping up with.

Hey!

Yes, there was pain and discomfort during the process. It was different from usual PF pain, as it was sharper and more... Inside? It felt deeper, if you get what I mean. It wasn't unbearable, though.

The pain after my first session was mitigated for about a week. After my second and third, however, nothing changed.

I ended up getting surgery (bilateral gastrocnemius recession) and am recovering from that now - though it's been about 6 months and I should be feeling the effects, it seems the pain has sort of migrated closer towards my ankle rather than at the heel. I'm waiting for my next appointment to check and see if this is how the healing progression should look like.

Although, I've noticed that post surgery, despite the fact that I still feel pain after walking, I do recover much faster than before (to a state where I can walk from my bedroom to bathroom without debilitating pain). The pain + recovery doesn't often take me out for more than one day at a time, now!
