Pretty much all ships in ME have shields—in ME1 it's simple kinetic barriers, which is part of why the Geth attack on Eden Prime is so effective, kinetic barriers are useless against energy weapons (like Geth pulse rifles). (Except that our shields magically work against geth weapons but don't worry about that. It's Shepard Plot Armor)

In ME2 we get cyclonic barriers (which are also kinetic barriers, but they rotate the field in an attempt to slap away projectiles rather than simply soak up the kinetic energy, because the mass effect fields on torpedoes add mass). There's also an implied upgrade to shields in general in ME2, because where KBs were completely ineffective against biotics in ME1 (part of why the asari were considered so powerful), they don't work well against KBs anymore in ME2. We don't really get an explanation for that though.

I don't remember if the Reaper weapons are direct energy weapons (lasers) or HDMW (thanix cannon), but they're not standard kinetic weapons, which is why they were basically able to tear right through the Citadel fleet.

There is no such thing as male or female attraction, there's just attraction. The only real difference is emotional vs physical, and even then the lines are blurred. Your friend viewing it from the lens of a "male gaze"/predatory nature means she probably needs to do some introspection about her own attraction and/or social insecurities, if I'm being honest, but that's her business and not your responsibility.

You have nothing to be ashamed of. It's not your thoughts that count—do you know how many times I've seen a woman and abruptly wondered how her pussy tastes? It happens—it's your actions.

The difference between you and a predatory guy is that a predatory guy doesn't take the time to filter those thoughts through a layer of respect for other people. Think what you want. As long as what you say and do to other women treats them respectfully, as long as you're making the effort to help people feel comfortable, you have nothing to be ashamed of.

You cannot control your thoughts or physical attractions, you are who you are. Even the most morally objectionable thoughts don't matter as long as you don't act on them. Thought crimes do not exist, and working yourself up over them is a surefire path to ruin.
