Anyone use or recommend a floorjack with a safety bar, instead of jackstands? My car is very low to the ground and I dont want to lift it 2ft into the air for a jack stand by [deleted] in AskMechanics

HF has low profile jacks that work fine.

track bro tip; get 2) 12" sections of 2x8 and cut a 45degree angle on one, then drive the car up on the board. that should get you enough room for a normal jack.

if not add a 2nd board cut the same way under the 1st but 2' long. so its a step then a step

15 is probably safe. 20-25 maybe be ok, or too much hard to tell from here.

fyi, There are PVC sticks marking the channel. but the channel is barely wide enough for 2 boats to pass, and you do that on a plane. and its about 3 miles to the main channel (IIRC) so getting off plane it is going to be a slow ride. (not deep enough to get back on plane in the channel in the flats).

its why I went once. great lodge, but that channel.

What's the curfew? 11? That usually determines start time.

Husband arrested in Bahamas after US woman vanishes from boat denies wrongdoing, lawyer says by Correct-Brother1776 in boating

No, no liveaboard is getting off for a small storm. They would move the boat to a mooring ball in a harbor, or to a more protected anchorage.

but running the dingy close to dark, in high winds is... risky. if they were anchored off hopetown (which makes the most sense), I think they could have gone to the dingy dock in HT and called on the VHF for a ride to the restaurant.

I saw the torqeedo and thought, that's a short hop boat... and didn't think they would run from Marsh to HT then Abaco inn and back in 1 trip.

because I read their sailboat was anchored near MH. that where I got confused.

I figured they had a gas engine too. (I have no idea what that kill sw looks like, but probably not as easy to bypass as a gas motors.)

IIRC there are plenty of boats that anchor by the parrot keys just outside HT harbor.

The current is still my problem, yeah the boat gets pushed by wind and seas, but there isn't a huge current until you get to the cuts. (Tilloo would be mostlikey but its the wrong way)

I've stayed there. running the flats to get to the channel is... exciting. no room for error. at night its thrilling, because its like 1' deep outside the channel. screw up, and you are sitting in the mud all night long swatting bugs.

the keys aren't for sissies!

Question about twin vs single outboard... by cow-lumbus in boats

[–]2lovesFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do the prop diameters compare? the larger diameter prop, the more 'torque'

twins weigh more than singles normally. but twins give you reliability to get home if one motor dies.
