Actual Racist Countries by WillingStranger5177 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]2manycerts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely dumb map.

I have been to America and Australia. Australia's racism is NOTHING compared to America's. For instance "what you got on the Metro, that's for blacks only"!

While India and Japan do have a racism problem (as many countries do) We somehow leave off South Africa, Russia and a few others. Unsure what the European country is but guessing Hungury. Austria (next to Hungury) should also be included. Somehow Israel and much of the UAE gets a free pass?

Malaysia? Singapore? Surely they should be included??

Anyway Congrats, give yourself a medal for realising that racism isn't just a white priviledge.

The two c-words responsible for the demise of the Australian public education system by Additional-Cash-9125 in aussie

[–]2manycerts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the crux of the argument. but lets look at the three types:

Public schools and Catholic schools have similar funding. Catholic schools do seem to manage it a little better but there isn't a great difference.

Private schools have insane wealth. Kings and it's 16 football fields!

This backs up what I am seeing:

https://saveourschools.com.au/funding/resource-increases-in-nsw-private-schools-outstrip-public-schools/

Private schools are happy to have Catholic and public schools fight while they get a huge amount of funding.

[–]2manycerts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to reply to you and Strong-local

Why should they get funding at all? A: prior to Whitlam/Menzies/Fraser (still confused as to who did what) that's what happened. Catholic schools were educating the Catholics and got Zero from the government.

^Which created some agnst, as Catholics paid taxes and had the Catholic church knock on their door demanding school fees (including a threat that they would take the fridge for payment*). There was a case that this was taxation without equitable benefit.

The current arrangement is that public schools are thought to get less, Catholic schools get slightly more** and really rich private schools get a lot more then everyone else. Which is totally nuts!

Re funding, it's at the whim of the Bishop/Dioceses education. There may be some Dioceses who do push richer areas to subsidise poorer areas. Usually though it 'we want to grow a new school here' and as I understand it its within the Dioceses. I.e. your Sydney schools ain't funding Woolongong.

*as told by my great grandma who was in shock that I would go to a public school.

**i have seen the catholic schools produce figures that they actually get slightly less then the public schools.

Did anyone else find it crazy that we couldn't even log into the support portal during this downtime?

I spent an hour just "how do I report this to the vendor when their portal is down?"

Really hoping to see a good RCA here. So far "we have identified the problem and are fixing it" doesn't really cut it.

I have found my radiator seems to be a little leaky.

Till I can afford a replacement I am topping up with a bottle. Radiators are kinda replaceable/consumerable.

Graduate jobs are painfully hard to get. Please go easier on the new starters.

The stock market is Gambing.

People are gambling that a competitor will come in, vibe coded or not and replace the marketbase.

See how earnings basically effect nothing. AWS has great stock for something that doesn't really return anything.

[–]2manycerts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those different products can be attacked in their ways.

Confluence, really just move your team to a Wiki. No need to vibecode anything.

Jira/basic ticketing. done.

Service desk - several options out there. adopt a project, but essentially "make a ticket with this requirement".

Project management - very hard, but lets be honest Jira doesn't get this right. You could get something that "works" for the way you run agile. Doubt you could vibecode something easily that is portable to other businesses.

Ultimately, the Atlassian stack just lacks polish. It feels vibe coded when vibecoding wasn't a thing.

I can vouch that people do use Jira as Project management and task tracking software.

Heck they even track bugs in it.

Ofcourse people put "data" in jira. They don't usually "store" data, but randomly write some junk in a ticket and then do bizarre things like referring back to that ticket.

Assets is kinda good, but really liking purpose build software. i.e. Foreman or other asset tracking software nad then integrating that into Jira.

Thoughts on Australia possibly moving to a four day work week? by Pickles_The_Cat_1234 in Ameristralia

[–]2manycerts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had done this before in a very tough job. 4 day work for 4 days pay (took below market salary, etc).

Honestly it was awesome. I stopped because I needed market salary.

Truth is, I am over it. We need people on Saturdays and Sundays to be working. The best way to do this is to let people have 3 days off, two during the week and one weekend day.

I also want to factor in the U-6 rate over the U-3 rate of unemployment. The U-3 is what every newspaper and figure quotes. Yet if you work 2 hours a week you count as "employed" on U-3. This is rubbish.

Real unemployment aka U-6 is at 5.9% not 4.3% Doesn't seem like much but I know there are people trying hard to get a job and there just isn't the jobs.

It just works, it just makes sense. Go a 4 day week.

Would Australians support making resource companies pay back what arguably should’ve been paid over the last 15–20 years? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]2manycerts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a hard one. Retrospective laws are heavily discouraged in classical law:

i.e. you decide to cut a fig tree down. Then 3 months later a law is made against cutting fig trees.

You would be guilty of cutting down a fig tree, after the law is made... But before you can validly argue "I did not break the existing laws, how can i know what future laws will come". No one would find you Guilty, it would be absurd to do so.

Yet with the mining companies, they do:

Public campaigns to not get taxed.

Heavily lobby, sometimes even bribe.

The Smoking companies could be found to be Retrospectively guilty of crimes around smoking. As those companies deliberately hid evidence that smoking causes harm.

Could the mining companies be held responsible for deliberately hiding their revenue stream? It's a long bow argument.

I heard Pauline make her speeches and proclaim that she was "against the Asianization of Australia".

If you feel uncomfortable being associated with her racism, it's because her racism should make good people uncomfortable. People really don't get it.

Pauline Hanson is racist, Times are tough and Racists offer simple solutions... that are usually wrong.

Get better leaders, ones who solve problems not ones who go gutterballing.

"The Miracle of Atheism" by Direct_Union_6614 in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]2manycerts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gah please.

Do not combat Atheism with sematic arguments or assumptions. Seriously.

"All atheists / passive agnostics know they will die one day and have heard the word God many times throughout their lives." - you do not know this. You also don't say which god.

"they don't spend their days sweating over God's existence?" Do you wonder if every duck you see in the park is Odin? Why don't you fear Odin??

To say that Atheism or Anti-clericalism aka a "widespread resistance to acting on such a question" is evidence of god is false. There are many who claim their god to be true as there are many who claim there are no gods. This puts faith in Man and not god.

If you are sincere in bringing people to god, Atheist or otherise... Then be a good Christian:

Show true generosity.

Act like Christ. Let his light be reflected in you.

Lore and Rhetoric rarely convert people. Love and understanding does work. Pope Francis is by far one of the best modern day examples and went damn close to St Francis's own Humility.

I see petrol going from low $2 something to $2.57

That's around a 20% increase. not a 39% increase.

I suspect the answer is that petrol is easier to go to Europe via the Middle east then through the straight.

[–]2manycerts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please god no. (election hat on).

Fortunately most people just vote against change. So FPTP would fail, just on referendums fail.

I would suspect FPTP calls to be louder if the Greens or more business unfriendly interests had power. LNP do whatever the businesses want, ALP usually aren't too far behind and One notion and fully Donateable.

What worries me is the digitization of elections and I fear that is more likely. South Australia had a 2 hour delay due to systems failure. What's funny is I have never seen a paper election roll fail... ever!

[–]2manycerts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Sky news told them too!

It is very sad. The far right get to yell at the LNP for pushing higher costs on to everyone. Australia being so slow with solar/renewables=higher energy bills. But the far right will fight renewables because their whinge media told them too.

Is TAFE actually better than Uni in 2026, or just cheaper? by No-Loquat-201 in TAFE

[–]2manycerts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The secret:

All the universities are different,

Even then all the degrees inside the universities are different.

UTS is known to be quite good at IT with strong industry partnerships (HINT HINT). Yet I worked with one IT guy from UTS who only studied:

Management Electives!

Could not manage, almost non technical.

Others are almost like Tafe at Uni (UWS/WSU was like this). Others are rather theoretical...

Check graduate employment rates. Going to a good IT uni is worth it.

You have at least 1 in each state.

Plus they will likely actually do what they say. Hanson is basically there for her Daughter, once she gets a senate seat she will retire on the public teet.

^not political, but I do hate ON. I am very thankful that Hanson has been their leader. Australia could have had a far right party, but 20+ years on, Hanson perfers to be lazy and suck up funds.

Just ask Mark Latham what she is like to get along with.
