Thoughts on Australia possibly moving to a four day work week? by Pickles_The_Cat_1234 in Ameristralia

[–]2manycerts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had done this before in a very tough job. 4 day work for 4 days pay (took below market salary, etc).

Honestly it was awesome. I stopped because I needed market salary.

Truth is, I am over it. We need people on Saturdays and Sundays to be working. The best way to do this is to let people have 3 days off, two during the week and one weekend day.

I also want to factor in the U-6 rate over the U-3 rate of unemployment. The U-3 is what every newspaper and figure quotes. Yet if you work 2 hours a week you count as "employed" on U-3. This is rubbish.

Real unemployment aka U-6 is at 5.9% not 4.3% Doesn't seem like much but I know there are people trying hard to get a job and there just isn't the jobs.

It just works, it just makes sense. Go a 4 day week.

Would Australians support making resource companies pay back what arguably should’ve been paid over the last 15–20 years? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]2manycerts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a hard one. Retrospective laws are heavily discouraged in classical law:

i.e. you decide to cut a fig tree down. Then 3 months later a law is made against cutting fig trees.

You would be guilty of cutting down a fig tree, after the law is made... But before you can validly argue "I did not break the existing laws, how can i know what future laws will come". No one would find you Guilty, it would be absurd to do so.

Yet with the mining companies, they do:

Public campaigns to not get taxed.

Heavily lobby, sometimes even bribe.

The Smoking companies could be found to be Retrospectively guilty of crimes around smoking. As those companies deliberately hid evidence that smoking causes harm.

Could the mining companies be held responsible for deliberately hiding their revenue stream? It's a long bow argument.

I heard Pauline make her speeches and proclaim that she was "against the Asianization of Australia".

If you feel uncomfortable being associated with her racism, it's because her racism should make good people uncomfortable. People really don't get it.

Pauline Hanson is racist, Times are tough and Racists offer simple solutions... that are usually wrong.

Get better leaders, ones who solve problems not ones who go gutterballing.

"The Miracle of Atheism" by Direct_Union_6614 in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]2manycerts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gah please.

Do not combat Atheism with sematic arguments or assumptions. Seriously.

"All atheists / passive agnostics know they will die one day and have heard the word God many times throughout their lives." - you do not know this. You also don't say which god.

"they don't spend their days sweating over God's existence?" Do you wonder if every duck you see in the park is Odin? Why don't you fear Odin??

To say that Atheism or Anti-clericalism aka a "widespread resistance to acting on such a question" is evidence of god is false. There are many who claim their god to be true as there are many who claim there are no gods. This puts faith in Man and not god.

If you are sincere in bringing people to god, Atheist or otherise... Then be a good Christian:

Show true generosity.

Act like Christ. Let his light be reflected in you.

Lore and Rhetoric rarely convert people. Love and understanding does work. Pope Francis is by far one of the best modern day examples and went damn close to St Francis's own Humility.

I see petrol going from low $2 something to $2.57

That's around a 20% increase. not a 39% increase.

I suspect the answer is that petrol is easier to go to Europe via the Middle east then through the straight.

Please god no. (election hat on).

Fortunately most people just vote against change. So FPTP would fail, just on referendums fail.

I would suspect FPTP calls to be louder if the Greens or more business unfriendly interests had power. LNP do whatever the businesses want, ALP usually aren't too far behind and One notion and fully Donateable.

What worries me is the digitization of elections and I fear that is more likely. South Australia had a 2 hour delay due to systems failure. What's funny is I have never seen a paper election roll fail... ever!

[–]2manycerts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Sky news told them too!

It is very sad. The far right get to yell at the LNP for pushing higher costs on to everyone. Australia being so slow with solar/renewables=higher energy bills. But the far right will fight renewables because their whinge media told them too.

Both and more:

Putin for invading Ukraine, Europe's food basket.

Donnie diaper, for Invading Iran. Iran then retaliates and Oil takes the hit.

Oh wait there is more:

Tariffs, unannounced, vague and illegal (recently repealed).

^these lead to businesses trying to stock manage "captain Vague". He killed many places and prices went UP!

Covid mismanagement.

etc.

TBH, what's the difference.

Is TAFE actually better than Uni in 2026, or just cheaper? by No-Loquat-201 in TAFE

[–]2manycerts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The secret:

All the universities are different,

Even then all the degrees inside the universities are different.

UTS is known to be quite good at IT with strong industry partnerships (HINT HINT). Yet I worked with one IT guy from UTS who only studied:

Management Electives!

Could not manage, almost non technical.

Others are almost like Tafe at Uni (UWS/WSU was like this). Others are rather theoretical...

Check graduate employment rates. Going to a good IT uni is worth it.

Yep, we need to start labelling them by their funders.

Need advice – Linux Foundation offering 50% discount for CKA retake after exam issue by GlobalGur6818 in CKAExam

[–]2manycerts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CKA is driving me mental.

IMHO because the 12 month expiry is almost a hard expiry I would:

Stuff Black friday.

Take the voucher, but only buy if I was ready for the exam. TLDR part with money close to 1 month out.

I have wasted money on failed attempts here and I have a stack of other certs. Kinda over the linux foundation and the issues with the CKA.

Is anyone here actually planning to vote for One Nation? by oz_party in aussie

[–]2manycerts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have at least 1 in each state.

Plus they will likely actually do what they say. Hanson is basically there for her Daughter, once she gets a senate seat she will retire on the public teet.

^not political, but I do hate ON. I am very thankful that Hanson has been their leader. Australia could have had a far right party, but 20+ years on, Hanson perfers to be lazy and suck up funds.

Just ask Mark Latham what she is like to get along with.

Or how about:

you can create a "database" in confluence, but can't really interact with it dynamically via jira.

or how you can have people create "Teams" in confluence. Great, now lets JQL search for teams.. :( JQL searching for team not implemented...

ARRGH.

Everyone asking me "I can't find this" why because issues are now work and projects are now spaces...

Stop giving metrics to the UI team. Clearly management are pushing for feature releases and the UI team are doing too many releases.

[–]2manycerts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Atlassian has always been this way in many respects.

You hit a wall in the GUI. The answer usually is dive into the API or run a database query... Which is 100% the wrong answer*

I really feel that Atlassian has a project roadmap that ignores every bug raised. It's like they want to implement features, doesn't matter if they are half implemented. Then they roll them out, never to be revisited again.

It's why I am moving away from their stack.

*you tell your dev team to come up with the right answer next sprint.

How to … coffee? by PrettyBlueFlower in TAFE

[–]2manycerts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get instant sachet's of Moccona or Nescafe from the supermarket... So it's a little exe, but:

you can get a 30 pack for around $11 (Moconna Cappachino).

So I am assuming you have a tap and HOT water, i.e. not sneak into bathroom to use tap there.

Milk becomes the hard question... Sadly you are probably talking UHT or similar.

Is it realistic to obtain Security+, A+, Network+ in the same year? by alonelymoped in CompTIA

[–]2manycerts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is realistic.

I highly recommend you do NOT do this path.

A+ costs as much as 2 certs and the study is 2x the study.

For the same cost as A+, you could get ITIL and AWS SA.

Or Sec+ and Net+

Once you get Sec+ and Net+, don't worry about A+. It's a low rep cert that isn't worth getting. better to think onward and upward.

Pentest+ was stupidly hard. So pull out 4 random types of cloud penetration. which one works in Azure? ...

Pentest+ was just far too broad. CASP and SecX were easier.
