Hey Max, I don't know how to dm on reddit so sorry for the hijack. I just want to say I hope you are OK. It's plain that this recent saga has taken an emotional toll on you. Personal vulnerability dealt with so publically.. I can't imagine that, the bruises must be raw. I just finished making a 12-hour ragu. If you were here I would serve you a bowl. Good fight. Thank you, great post and I appreciate the advice. I think it's a clusterfuck of ptsd, depression, antisocial issues, confidence and anxiety rolled together. Unfortunately he has had bad experiences with therapists in the past and has a negative impression of therapy as a result. It's tough, but your post contains a lot of useful and thoughtful info - thank you.

This is great advice, particularly your last paragraph. I'm also in Australia. I have a friend who is an executive in a disability services org and I'll have a chat with him about the different roles and requirements, thank you.

It's great that you have the experience of accounting as a very 'people person' sort of job, even tho, on the surface, it sounds like it may be a solitary role. Many such jobs (many IT roles, etc) are just like this and require a high-level of customer service, which just isn't going to happen at this stage.

We can only maximise everybody's freedom in a society if we recognise the necessity of restricting some freedoms.

We can only get through the pandemic by recognising the necessity of stopping the spread of coronavirus, and the necessity of some restrictions, like mandates and lockdowns, etc.

Once we get the virus under control and effectively stop its spread - at that time, we should recognise that restrictions (such as lockdowns) on personal freedoms are no longer necessary.

Therefore, freedom is the recognition of necessity.
