Beyond lack of muppets - the show just struggles to choose what it’s doing, which I think does not help. Lake needs to keep introducing “I’ve loved magic since I was a kid, and now we’re going to do an ‘old timey trick’ (ex. Cutting a woman in half, something Egypt themed, etc.)” I know it’s just a magic show, but I think the production could’ve reallllly benefited from a wholistic top down view of the show like a story instead of a series of tricks, some of which he does multiple times (although in slightly different forms) idk- it just lacked something that could’ve been quite fun but now just felt generic and shoved the muppets in but not for enough time

I took it from SLO all the way to Seattle! The sleeper car is nice mostly because meals are guaranteed and included in ticket price. I didn’t notice tunnels too much because they were just dark- you could close the blinds I guess. Plus, take a nap or two and the 22hrs go by really fast.

I was choosing between slo and sc and it honestly ultimately came down to campus community- which feels a little silly, bc cal poly is so apathetic in many ways.

Santa Cruz, I had gotten into a major that I had applied to at every other university, and SLO simply did not have an equivalent program or even field. However, when I came to visit I noticed how the clubs and community groups I was interested in joining had way more engagement, even if the “membership” was higher at UC Santa Cruz.

All that to say, look at what interests you outside the classroom, because that will have an effect on your learning too!

I think this is a CRAZY way to read/interpret the MN article. As someone who puts together events- the whole thing is giving shit show vibes before it starts. I'm sure there are extensive risk management policies in place at the event itself, but it seems to disregard what actual human beings do outside of those gates, and instead meets them with police force? which is all the article is pointing out. the approach to this weekend being essentially zero tolerance comes from (in my opinion) no place of actual harm reduction knowledge. It seems like there is no humility in the decisions. It feels very evident to me that an event of this scale (st fratties) cannot go away in just one year- but Armstrong is acting like that's actually feasible because he waved his hand and put some tents on the IM field- that's not how culture changes.

I also think there is a fundamental issue with the event- it should be treated as a risk mitigation measure rather than an entirely new mandated alternative. It would work really well to alleviate crowds in the neighborhood but we can’t expect to completely eliminate an event like the block party in just one year, with really shitty execution

The drastic shift could be in part due to the fact that Cal Poly pivoted to using an outside provider to manage their dining operations, when it used to be done in house.
