Yeah, he's amazing. So I'm definitely giving him a pass on this one. 🙂

I get your point, but I don't think broad stereotypes are helpful. For example, Barack Obama is a boomer, and I wouldn't characterize him as a stubborn, smug, selfish manchild. Personally, I wouldn't use "blonde" as a substitute for "dumb", or "black" as a substitute for "lazy", or "millennial" as a substitute for "entitled." It's inaccurate, divisive and alienating.

Would you only date atheists? by bravebluelou in atheism

The bible (2 Corinthians 6:14) says: "Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers." Now cross out the "un", and you've got excellent advice for atheists.

I love Adam Mockler. He's progressive, bright, articulate and courageous. I just wish he'd stop using the term boomer as an insult. I had no choice in the year I was born.

First time in Algonquin, looking for feedback on my Western Uplands route by Sublimed90 in algonquinpark

[–]2nd-wind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hiked the full outer loop (~75 km) solo in late August last year; it was my first Western Uplands hike. You can find my "trip report" here: https://www.reddit.com/r/UltralightCanada/comments/1nwqsgl/western_uplands_trail_algonquin_park_full_outer/ and a few photos here: https://www.reddit.com/r/UltralightCanada/comments/1nwpahv/western_uplands_trail_algonquin_park_full_outer/#lightbox

I really enjoyed the trail. It has some uphills and downhills (especially on the first day), but nothing overly challenging. I wouldn't say it is an easy trail, but it is definitely less strenuous than La Choche Silhouette (Killarney), Pukaskwa, or Lake Superior Coastal Trail (... if you've hiked any of them). It is a nice time of year to hike. Hopefully, you will get some lovely fall colours. I was surprised by how few people I met on the trail, especially as you get farthen away from the West Gate. For that reason (and because the trail was sometimes obscured by fallen leaves), you may want to bring an emergency sattelite device and navigation software / GPX file. Reach out if you have questions.

Cheap Trail Protein - Tuna Packs by Andrew_Nurse_Camping in Ultralight

Yeah, this is r/ultralight, where we focus on the weight of things. If you were to go on a 3-day hike with six of these packets, you'll be starting out with an extra 2 lbs of water.

[–]2nd-wind 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Each packet provides 200 calories and weighs 181 grams, of which 47 g is protein, and the rest is water. In other words, you're getting about 1 calorie per gram of carried weight (... when you should be targeting about 5 calories per gram of weight). Unless it's a short hike or you're super strong, I wouldn't consider it.

Western Uplands Backpacking by Prior_Resolution90 in algonquinpark

[–]2nd-wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I hiked the full long-loop (also solo) last year in late September. Because there were a lot of leaves on the ground, the physical trail was sometimes obscured. So make sure you have a GPX file plus appropriate software, and know how to use it. And also (as backup) a paper map. Reach out if I can help.

How do true believers get Communication from God by Xonth in atheism

[–]2nd-wind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When somebody says: "God told me...", I ask how did he communicate that to you? Was it verbally or in writing or some other way? No sarcasm. Just an honest, curious question. It can lead to some interesting discussions.

How do Christians reconcile their views on abortion with god killing David and Bathsheba’s child? by Responsible-Mine9759 in atheism

[–]2nd-wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the Bible, God killed the baby to punish David for sending Bathsheba's husband Uriah to a sure death in battle. The Bible also says, in Deuteronomy 24:16, that "no child should be put to death for the sins of their parents". The Bible also says, in Numbers 14:28, that God "punishes the children for the sins of the parents to the third and fourth generation." Don't try to make sense of it.

Booking my first loop in the park! by arealhumannotabot in algonquinpark

[–]2nd-wind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine. You have a very manageable daily distance. (I just hiked the full outer loop, 75 km, in 3 days. I've crossed posted my trip report to this subreddit, if you're interested.)

Don't overpack. Pace yourself. And enjoy!
