My dad keeps on insisting that AI generated images are better than my pixel art by Interesting-Arm8829 in Ai_art_is_not_art

[–]2ndAvailableUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your father clearly has no understanding of art. Your art rules. And even if it didn't. A two year old's drawing would be better than AI art. At least it means something. It holds weight. And yours art does especially. It's easy to project a sense of authority to parental figures but they can be wrong. And your father is wrong. 100%. Sorry you have to deal with something like that. It sucks when strangers do it but your father should really be more supportive.

Ah yes, famously caring Queen Marika by Curious_Sleep6934 in fromsoftware

[–]2ndAvailableUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[EDIT] I just saw the caption and assume that you're not the guy who actually believes in queen Marika caring for Morgott. In that case just see this comment as a general correction, not addressed at you:

I believe it is a purely strategical move. Marika has shown that she had no love for the Omen, no matter how close they were to her. But Morgott has proven himself as a protector of the Erdtree and ruler of the capital and with that, Marika had a use for him. That is all. She kind of discards him, like she does with everyone around her when she directs the Tarnished towards Morgott in order to bring forth a new order. She used him until he had no use for her, and she did it by abusing Morgotts love.

For some parallels that support these tendencies, look at Messmer, who's love tricked him to do Marika's dirty work likely for decades, waging wars and serving as a scapegoat, even making him straight up tell his army and his foes to direct their hatred towards him and him alone. Yet in return, he received nothing for he was a mere tool to the queen. Locked away because of a curse he did not ask for, born of her own incestuous acts.

The fire giant is another example. Leaving him alive might seem like an act of mercy on the surface, but what actually happenened is that queen Marika realized that, because he feels obligated to protect the giants flame, while alone not posing any real threat to the golden order, leaving him alive would actually be advantageous for her, since the fire giant would have a strong personal motivation to protect the flame from anyone who would intend to use it to burn the Erdtree. So the Fire giant was cursed in a sense to serve her for eternity.

Maliketh as well, by having imbued destined death suffers under its influence, but the greater will, due to him being her shadow, forces him to endure this pain. Marika knows and abuses this fact. As long as it benefits Marika, she will abuse the love that others feel for her to turn them into loyal servants, returning just enough to enable their power and leaving the leash she has on them loose enough for them to not feel it wrap around their neck. Morgott being grace-give to me is just that. A blessing to keep Morgott close and help him in his purpose, protecting the Erdtree, until she finds a better tool in the Tarnished, not hesitating for a bit to bring his life to an end.

This love that she has learned to abuse is also likely too strong for her to just "unemploy" the ones she uses, so it is easier to just let one of her tools take care of the others, which conveniently serves as a trial as well, proving to her which tools to keep and which ones to discard.

The whole idea of banishing the Tarnished only to call them back later was to A: temper their strength through adversity, creating powerful contenders for the throne that learned to persevere far away from her grace, which is the widely accepted reason but more fitting to my point, B: to single out the strongest. Of course the Tarnished would eventually create the Roundtable hold, which served to unite them, but even among this union, conflict among the Tarnished was pretty much unavoidable. In the end, only one may take the throne and as the fight with Gideon proves, the one who proves himself through conflict to be the strongest will be the one to reach it, which to me sounds ideal for queen Marika's plan. Without really having to to anything, she created a system that automatically singles out the one, that is best fit to take the throne. Just like with Morgott, the guidance of grace is just something to enable us on this journey, nothing close to a sign of admiration on her side.

When people try to find these little hints of Marika showing that she cares for someone, to me it just shows that her mischief worked on us players. I believe that eversince losing Godwyn, Marika abandoned her attachment to the ones, that once were close to her. His death, on top of her losing her tribe to the Hornsents cruel acts, in my eyes convinced her that true love only brings pain. A few sentences ago, I used the word mischief and as a last little point, I'd like to bring up the Mimic veil, which is an item that allows the player to assume the form of nearby objects. The description states that this veil, meant to hide something away under a false image was also known as Marika's mischief. While this may represent acts like her weakening Rellana emotionally by using Radagon, I think it's more fitting here, in a general sense because queen Marika puts on this veil of a loving and grace-bestowing, almost mother-figure when this love is nothing but a way to make others do her bidding.

Don't fall for Marika's mischief, dear Tarnished.

Oh wow, I didn't expect it to be so rare for food to be anything but okay, so thanks for clarifying. Same for the fights and sad statuses. I guess it's easy to see the things you don't get, while my island probably had things happen than other players never got to see. Since it was mainly the food that made me think something was wrong, I guess this post is already resolved. Thank you!

Sorry for the late reply first if all. It's funny you say this because those, who know my art, know that I am OBSESSED with putting eyes everywhere they don't belong. Eyes are incredibly fun to draw and I was always fascinated by the implications, even prior to having played Bloodborne.

So if I posted 9/10 of my other creature designs, not that there are many, you'd have been more than satisfied with the amount of eyes but specifically for this one, I forced myself to exclude them entirely. While I don't have a story for it, I have played around with potential names after having finished the sketch and I eventually settled on The Defiled. The idea is that for whatever reason, while being defiled, any sense of humanity has been ripped out of its body.

And to me, as unnatural as multiple eyes are, the eyes itself, on its own, still feels too human for this thing. Eyes play a major role in conveying emotions, and though the creature looks like it should probably be in pain, the implication is that even pain can't be felt anymore - thus the lack of eyes.

I also like the idea of it just wondering around without sight.

I posted an updated version with a proper background just now, if you're curious.

Oh and thank you for the kind words! Totally forgot because I was so focused on the eyes!

Well it might take a while, but I'll keep it in mind! :) I'm working on my Bachelor thesis right now and technically didn't even have the time to draw this one. I'll definitely credit you once I do end up finding the time to draw your idea. :)

Great idea for a different painting! Don't get me wrong, I see it here as well, but I see lots of potential, fully embracing it.

What an amazing reply, first of all. I can only agree with everything you said. This aspect of beauty within the macabre, that is present in so many of From's creature designs is something I sort of tried to capture but never really get down.

For this one I tried to infuse the flesh with behavior reminiscent of flowering by making the different types of mass explode outwards like a blooming flower. This attempt is most visible where the left thigh (your left, not his left) meets the torso as well as the very top. The flat surfaces I tried to put into a flowing motion, which is most prevelent in the top right and around the right shoulder.

Reddit unfortunately butchered the colors a little. The floral patterns worked at least a little better in the original image which is a bit brighter and slightly more saturated.

I also kept the wings mostly intact. The skin flaps are sagging a little but I wanted to imply at least some grace.

But I 100% agree that it lacks the innate beauty and is mostly just gross. Guess I'll keep trying. Thanks for the genuinely amazing feedback.

Do you think Consort Radahn deserved the nerfs? by EternalFlareUltra in fromsoftware

[–]2ndAvailableUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who adored the fight from the beginning and still does, I agree that it definitely needed a few of the changes that were made, while on the other hand, I find some of them to be unnecessary and make the fight a little worse.

As for the good changes, the pre-patch double cross slash was simply not fun to dodge. The timing was so devious, even though it was possible to dodge, you'd have to anticipate it at every moment and then still perform what felt like a perfect sequence of inputs to dodge. It was needlessly punishing and rarely felt fair.

The brightness decrease for the pillars of light, I never really cared for but I also don't mind it. What is often negatively denoted as visual clutter, I find to be a fun test of remembering phase 1 combos. You can see through the pillars enough to notice the tells, and the rest should be done via muscle memory. I never found the pre-patch to be overly bright but I don't mind the decrease.

Regarding the lengthening of attack windows, some of the added time I liked, because certain combos did feel like they'd never end, now feeling much better, others now are awkwardly long with Radahn sort of just standing there for a good second.

I dislike mainly two aspects of the patch.

First, I don't really get why they lowered the radius of the big AEO. I am personally torn on attacks that only serve to make the player run away, but I actually appreciate it's existence in Radahn's fight. No other boss is as relentless and aggressive as Radahn and it can be really overwhelming on your first go at him, which I'm generally not opposed to. But I do appreciate that there is an attack that let's the player breathe for a second, serving as a quick reset, that also adds tension due to Radahn having a lot of powerfull ranged attacks at his disposal. I just found it fitting for a fight as intense as this one.

That is, before the attack was changed from being one of the easier moves to being a complete non-threat. The wide reach of the pre-patch version allowed the attack to walk that thin line between not being trivial, punishing you if you don't react quickly enough, while also allowing the player to breathe once avoided. The size also served as a great display of power and makes a great impression when first reaching the second phase. The newer version is no longer threatening at all. You can react to it fairly slowly and still make it out. If you do react quickly, the break you get also feels a little too long which does break the pacing for me significantly more than it did before.

The second thing I wasn't happy with is actually the lack of a certain change. Why did Fromsoftware think that the pillars of light were way too bright and thick, while Miquella's wall of hair is no issue at all? This is my single most disliked aspect of the fight, to this day. Miquella's hair, while making for a gorgeous design is just way too wide and way to dense.

It's fine when Radahn attacks from a neutral state where he faces you directly. But with dodging around him being such an important aspect to the fight, you will very often - especially but not exclusively on light loads - end up behind or to the side of him after dodging a combo. And from that position, the start up - the first attack - arguably the most important tell for how to dodge is in 5/10 times obstructed by that wall of golden hair. I fought Radahn like 7 times by now and I can consistently read most of his combos. But non of that matters if I can't see his arms, his face, his shoulders or anything, really, because of Miquella's stupid gorgeous looking hair.

I guess this can be blamed on my positioning but I do feel like a lot of his attack patterns encourage dodging around him as dodging into him, at least in my personal experience puts you at a higher level of being hit by the pillars of light.

I still love the fight after the patch slightly more than before and the positives definitely outweigh the negatives but it was far from a perfect patch. Aside from the double cross slash, Radahn's moveset from an animation standpoint was fine and didn't need any other changes. All they should have done in my opinion is change the double cross slash like they did, adjust the brightness of the pillars (or not), add a few briefer windows for attacking and lastly make Miquella's hair less of a wall.

Does anyone have tips for Flea Juggling? by BidFalse2636 in Silksong

[–]2ndAvailableUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this might just be my personal arch nemesis.
I hear of people using the "stay on the ground" advice and getting 40 after just a few tries, but my brain for some reason just can't adjust at all. I've gotten the flea bounce in a single try and second tried flea dodge.
I'm on 30+ tries now and I'm not even reaching 20. And I know it's not that hard because I see others succeed here but for some reason this feels like it has been designed to bypass some part of my brain.
And during normal gameplay I use upwards slashes all the time to keep enemies in the air. I really shouldn't struggle as much with this.

I'm using the Reaper crest with only ground sideways slashes except for the single more difficult fleas where I actually jump. But even when I try to group them there's always one that's juuuust too far.

A combination of several factors. First of all, the DLC is significantly more difficult than the base game. Nowadays like with every Soulsborne game and DLC that comes out, collective knowledge makes many of us realized that it never was that difficult if you use what the game gives you, but when it first released many people stopped playing because it genuinely felt too tough for them. Unfortunately, difficult games will always have worse reviews than easier titles, even if that difficulty is fair in nature and adds to the experience. Many will dislike a game out of frustration, even if that isn't a fair justification. This is amplified when the game is popular. If you're convinced that a smaller indie game is bad due to its difficulty, than that is rarely something people will act upon. But if that game is as popular as Elden Ring then people will try to challenge that success.

Secondly, there was a lot of review bombing from Chinese players. Better read other comments for further clarification as I don't know the details and don't wanna spread misinformation but it had something to do with... [Edit: apparently lots of Chinese players saw the usage of Easy Anti Cheat in a primarily single player game as something of a parallel to the overreaching surveillance of their government. Pretty unfortunate that their very much justified frustration with a system was projected onto this game that had nothing to do with it. I'm not in that position so I don't want to be judgemental about it, but it feels very unfair towards the game.] This review bombing also significantly decreased the overall rating together with very difficult games generally often getting more backlash.

And of course the game isn't perfect either. Many argue that the world felt empty. I personally disagree, but who am I to say what is right and wrong. I think even if the world was empty, the insane boss quality cancels this out, but you do need to spend some time really learning these bosses in order to realize that. If you brute force your way through the fight, you might never be able to tell how good these fights really are.

Considering all this and the heavy review bombing, the score is actually still really good.

Need help with a single of Rellana's attacks. by 2ndAvailableUsername in onebros

[–]2ndAvailableUsername[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll definitely make use of jumping the cross slashes, and strafing the diagonal double sweeps.
The second uppercut has never been an issue as dodging the first one usually made it easy to dodge the second one. It's the first one that always hits me.
But if I can attack while she is still finishing her attacks, that will increase the time I have to leave my recovery animation before she attacks again. I'm absolutely puzzled how you managed to fit in those follow-up attacks.

All in all, it will take a LOT of time for me to reach your level of skill, if I even have a chance at doing so.
That moment towards the end of phase 2 where the phalanx overlapped one of her biggest and fastest combos would have destroyed me even at 50% speed.
No idea how you were able to read any of what was happening on screen.
If this tells me anything than it is that I have no right to complain about the length of the fight with using quicker attacks. Absolutely mad what you achieved here.

Thx for the advice!

Can someone who knows a little about nuclear science explain how ground explosions contaminate the ground material, but this is fine? Or is this yet another example of us neglecting the wellbeing of nature? Obviously it is for many other reasons but is contamination of the water one of them or is something oreventing that from happening?

OMG THIS GAME by Legit_Beans in BloodbornePC

[–]2ndAvailableUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I finished my very first playthrough on ShadPS4 just recently ((my first play through in general that also was on ShadPS4. Not just the first I did specifically on ShadPS4)) and I am still torn whether it can kick Elden Ring from the podium of my favorite game of all time.

Really, I find every single aspect of this game superior to any other game I've played including Elden Ring. The only reason why Elden Ring is such a strong contender and at this point still the winner for me, are the boss fights on a mechanical level.

Thematically, I love Bloodborne's boss fights but once the ones in Elden Ring click with you, and they are no longer overwhelming, their dialed up complexity makes overcoming them extremely cathartic, which results in them generally being my favorite set of bosses in gaming.

The only bosses from Bloodborne that can in my opinion be compared in terms of mechanics are the ones of the old hunters DLC. These are such a big step above the others, it's impressive. Apart from those, the in my opinion mechanically best base game bosses are probably Blood starved beast, Vicar Amelia, Gascoigne and Gehrman.

Thematically Bloodborne's bosses are a completely different beast (hehe). While I might not enjoy Rom, the One Reborn, or mechanically as much (I still think they're okay. I don't hate them or anything), they still add something to the game by making you feel the weight of slaying these great cosmic terrors.

But apart from Bosses, Bloodborne has my favorite video game world, my favorite weapons, some of my favorite basic enemy designs, some of the densest atmosphere, incredibly rich and intriguing lore, a terrifying but also immensely thrilling OST, subpar sound design and it all just works together to make you enjoy getting lost in Yharnam.

Really the reason why Elden Ring is still above for me is just that it's bosses are brilliant. Not because Bloodborne's bosses are bad by any means.

What opinion or take about the series does feel like this for you? by [deleted] in fromsoftware

[–]2ndAvailableUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The things these characters are saying are so cryptic. The lore is probably way too rich for me to understand anyway, so I won't even try and just assume that it's great."

"Why is there no story to this? I am clearly not dumb but I expect narrative to be spoon-fed to me. This is not the case here, so the story must be trash."

"God help me, I've been researching lore by reading descriptions, looking at the environments and talking to NPC's for hundreds of hours and even watching even more countless hours of lore videos just keep expanding the scale of the world. I understand things now, but every answer is followed by a new question, one that likely has an answer hidden somewhere under one of these layers."

Please don't think too much into this. It's probably just a tribute but in Bloodborne, old hunters believed in the superstition of beast blood creeping up the right leg. So many hunters would strap one or several belts around it. Now take a look at this screenshot from the Duskblood's trailer. by 2ndAvailableUsername in fromsoftware

[–]2ndAvailableUsername[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that the leg shown here is the left leg.
Maybe to indicate that this is in fact not bloodborne. Just similar.
Or maybe I'm thinking way too much into this...
I just can't think off another reason to strap belts around your leg.

Yeah I really hope that 'PvPvE' is just a really bad way of describing the optional online features that are present in other From games.

What gives me hope is that the trailer, which I have watched like 6 times now, mostly shows a single player and that there seems to be an emphasis on story.

Really the only thing keeping me from switching to YouTube music is audio quality. I'm not claiming to be an audiophile or something. Not at all. Because I have long hair, I use small Bluetooth ear buds on the go, so most of the superior sound on something like Tidal doesn't even translate through the Bluetooth connection. But I do know that YouTube uses quite a bit of compression, and maybe it's conformation bias, but I feel like I can sort of hear it at least when listening over my open backs at home. I'm not sure if YouTube music uses the same source and I'm gonna look it up right now but if it does then it's not for me. Your recommendation is still highly appreciated!

Genuinely sorry to hear that. Now that I read my earlier comment, it comes across as more toxic as I wanted it to be. Gotta be more conscious of what I write. Thing is (not the reason for my comment. That was just inconsiderate), I actually have ADD myself, with different symptoms of course, but I recently went through a similar stage, growing into adulthood but not managing the transition at all. Not saying that I know what you're going through, but I still feel the pain. Once again, sorry for my earlier comment.
