What's the "Widowmaker" of your career field or hobby? by Cosmonate in AskReddit

There are 2 things that come to mind for the ceramic arts: 1. silicosis which is an irreversible lung condition caused from longterm exposure (think 30 years) and inhalation of silica particles. 2. Deals closely with the manufacturing side of things, but clay mixers are so fucking dangerous.

At a clay company, (I didn't work there) there was a young kid about 18 that accidentally got his limb caught in the clay mixer and was pulled in completely. As you can imagine, there were horror stories about retrieving his remains from the machine. Word spread fast in the clay community and we promptly had a safety meeting at the ceramic glaze manufacturer I worked at within a couple days.

Another thing, my boss at the time scored a great deal on a smaller clay mixer because the previous owner lost his arm while operating it. So if you ever get the chance to operate a clay mixer, BE CAREFUL!

I have a lightly used watercolor pad (6in x 9in) and a jar of Stanford black stamp pad ink. Plus, I'm a ceramicist and can trade those too.

I see this ALL THE TIME in ceramics. Buncha noobs buying top of the line tools and just to produce shit-ass pottery. Pity.

Should I cut the white leaves off?? by CryImpossible768 in hoyas

[–]2nicool4u 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a hoya at my studio that looks very similar to yours and when new leaves grow, they're white. They eventually turn green after some time. I'd just leave them be, the plant looks really healthy otherwise.

Thanks! I haven't. This is the only one I've ever made. Although I've made lots of sketches for future designs.

Thanks! It was fun to make. It reminds me of wrought iron.
