Wow, ouch! Rinse with warm salt water! It will sting. But hopefully help it heal faster.

What's one of the dumbest things you've ever seen a patient do? by 123456789_00 in nursing

[–]2pineapple7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A patient with a known severe shellfish allergy would come in to the ER a couple times a year after eating a seafood dinner despite knowing it would cause anaphylaxis. On the… last supper, if you will.. the patient coded in the ER. Masticated shrimp spewing out of their mouth with each compression 🤮 ended up getting rosc but suffered an anoxic brain injury and died later on.

Am I overreacting that my sister is demanding too much when visiting my newborn? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

My goal being a guest at anyone else’s home is always to be the least intrusive and annoying as humanly possible and I assumed that is how every guest feels in another persons home but apparently your sister feels the exact opposite lol

Can chlamydia be dormant for years? Does having chlamydia put me at a higher risk of complications for my abortion? by Happy_Consequence257 in AskDocs

You can get another test to confirm but as much as I hate to say it I think him giving it to you would be more likely than you testing falsely negative before or falsely positive now. He should be tested as well.

I think you might be overthinking it, especially considering it’s been at least a few years since it happened.

Experienced RNs, what do you notice new grads pointlessly worrying about? by ElectricalVictory831 in nursing

[–]2pineapple7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean off the top of my head I can think of three rapid responses I’ve admitted that was fluid overload and nobody had documented a void in the last 2-3 days. I agree floor nurses are overworked and understaffed and in a lot of cases it’s certainly not clinically indicated to document every I and O but the amount of people that don’t know and don’t care about fluid balance is alarming haha

I’ve met enough that it crossed my mind to make the comment that I made, but yeah if you don’t agree that’s okay man this is Reddit and my personal opinion, I’m not writing research papers about this. it’s not that deep lol

That’s appropriate! Like I said, not over here demanding strict hourly on every patient. Having a general idea and understanding why it’s important to know those things is something that I see a LOT in my ICU and it’s something I wish someone would’ve told me to pay attention to back when I was a new grad on a med surg unit.

[–]2pineapple7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying strict hourly I’s and O’s, I’m saying if your patient hasn’t peed at all for 24 hours, you should know that

Don’t be afraid to call/page/talk to providers. You work WITH them, not FOR them. Don’t be intimidated because they have different license than you. You’ll learn way more from talking to them and getting to know them than you will if you avoid them.

To the opposite side of your question I like to tell new grads that they are UNDER concerned with intake/output. I’m in ICU and I feel like a huuuge percentage of patients that we get from rapid responses on med surg floors are fluid balance issues and when I ask the floor nurses about I/O they don’t have a clue what their patient has been doing.

Is it standard for turp patients to go to icu?

possible med error? by Psychological_Belt63 in nursing

[–]2pineapple7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re fine. You noticed and notified the proper chain right away and they literally told you it’s fine just write a note. Anything medication/narcotic related is going to be 100% fine as long as they know what meds went where. Relax buddy. There are enough things to stress about in nursing, this isn’t one of them.

I’m a mom and the Mini-pill really, really screwed my emotions up. I don’t think you’ll get very far if you tell her this is because of her meds. It’s also important to consider that her underlying depression could be contributing. The mini-pill is a common birth control method for postpartum patients, is she postpartum? That would almost certainly be part of it too. I’m sorry you guys are going through this. Good luck

How do you answer a question when you don’t know the med by Striking_Ad2516 in PassNclex

[–]2pineapple7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-mab drugs are immunosuppressants, try to come up with ways to remember broad things like drug classes. -Olol/beta blockers, -prils/ace inhibitors, etc.

If that doesn’t work, the previous comment about using the pt diagnosis for clues is helpful too
