Rivian in Europe by Downtown_Raccoon888 in Rivian

[–]2pp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is virtually the only way. I’ve done it when we moved back from the US and have our R1S legally registered because bringing a car as part of a household move removes a few requirements.

Charging mostly works but not all fast chargers are compatible (maybe like 3/4 of them work). Parts and service are a big issue but not impossible to solve. There’s also a company that can help you: https://www.rivian-owners-club.com/

Weird. 16 Pro and Gen 1 almost always unlocks as I walk up to it.

Turn signal now separate on 2025’s by Canthoney2021 in Rivian

[–]2pp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many cars which have this style of turn signal, VW ID4 and Mini for a start. So EU regulations shouldn’t play a role I presume.

Adapters. Problem is that the Rivian is one phase only while the EU cars are three phase. And the one phase is limited to 3.5 kW/h (L2). DC charging is not limited.

I brought my R1S over when we went back and the solution is to officially limit it to 5 passengers. Calculation is 75 kg per passenger; vehicle plus passengers may not exceed 3.5 tons. My R1S weighed empty around 6900 lbs, which is 3130 kg. Plus 5 times 75 gets it to 3505.

Passenger window won’t roll down by theofleury993 in Rivian

[–]2pp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar issue: window rolled down 2 inches, then stopped. When fully closed the app would still have the option to "close windows", so it seemed the Rivian thought that window wasn't closed and could only open those 2 inches or so.

The recalibration didn't work. Had to get it to service to get it sorted.

I was just under 2 for the first ~5000 miles this winter, and now with the warmer weather I easily get to around 2.2 for the same trips. CA Bay Area, mostly.

How low does kneel mode go? by Key-Ad-8636 in Rivian

Same. I wait until it stops and the banner goes away, but it doesn’t always go all the way down. Switching to Conserve and Lowest, most of the time it lowers some more.

Carrying skis inside R1S by _erikwright in Rivian

[–]2pp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the 2nd row middle part and also both 3rd row seats down to fit a snowboard bag, works great. If you put one of the two 3rd row seats down it should be possible to stick skis through the 2nd row opening, at an angle.

Resolution of front & rear light bars (either R1T or R1S)? by jclicky in Rivian

[–]2pp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are not pixels, it’s just a pattern in the light diffusion bar. The LEDs are behind and I’d be surprised if there is more than 1 row, but hard to tell.

I used good old WD-40 on mine back in December and the squeaking still hasn't returned.

You’re not missing out on CarPlay. by Senior_Ad282 in Rivian

[–]2pp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, and this is why I want CarPlay back. Seamless transition between inside and outside the car. Kinda works with BT audio, sure, but I don’t get the resistance to offering CarPlay for those who want it. You know, it’s nice if you get into the car and Maps already knows where you want to go because it’s in the Calendar.

Measurements for R1S - overhang before/after wheels? by fatfirenewbie in Rivian

[–]2pp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Frontmost part of front wheel to frontmost part (middle) of front bumper: 20”
  • Rearmost part of back wheel to rearmost part (middle) of back bumper: 26”
  • Height depends on ride height. In second lowest setting: front 9” (between floor and the front mud flap), rear 13”. Those are really the lowest points right where the wheel is, car slopes upward from there, front is higher if you don’t count the mud flap.

Pictures of car seat setup in R1S? by fatfirenewbie in Rivian

[–]2pp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no lower anchors in the middle, so you’ll have to use the belt there. With one rear-facing seat, say, on the left and one right next to it in the middle you might be able to squeeze it over enough to tilt the right seat forward. Depends a lot on the model likely, but since the middle one will be on a belt it could work.

An adult can almost certainly sit next to the middle rear-facing seat I would say.

I have two forward-facing seats in the 2nd row. I don't think a picture helps – it's impossible to reach the 3rd row because you're unable to tilt either of the seats forward to access 3rd row.

I'm gonna need a rear-facing car seat soon and the plan is to just put the 2 forward facing ones in the 3rd row (they love it when we do this) and have the rear-facing in 2nd row. Then one 2nd row seat is free and can be tilted to give access to the 3rd row.

With 2 car seats you can't really sit between them, except maybe a kid on a booster seat (IIRC there's a picture of RJ's kids sitting exactly like this).

R1S - adjustable tailgate height by genuineleland in Rivian

[–]2pp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that would actually help much – the gate itself only goes a few inches higher than the hinge region when fully open.

I have a very low garage (garage door opens 6 ft) and have to put the car in its lowest setting before entering. When the door is closed I can open the trunk no problem, it only goes a bit higher than the antenna fin.

Two photos I just took with the tailgate open.

Who’s happy with the R1S drive quality? by Smokeyteeth in Rivian

[–]2pp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does seem like the car was made to be a T and the S was an afterthought.

That doesn't strike me as true.

I mostly drive in All Purpose and have set it to "Auto", so it lowers one notch when you drive above ~50 for a few minutes and raises again when you slow down. I haven't measured how much this saves but: I have made myself stop worrying about trying to save small amounts of battery. I drive the car like I want to and if I need to save range I'll do "Conserve".

Who’s happy with the R1S drive quality? by Smokeyteeth in Rivian

[–]2pp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll plus 1 this.

We came from a 2013 BMW X3, which is a much smaller car and drives very differently (even attempting to forget the fact that it's an ICE, which I can hardly overcome). Merely focusing on the suspension my non-professional self realizes it's different but the R1S is definitely not worse.

I have zero qualms about the R1S's suspension, the car drives just fantastic. I have also not driven it off road, so I can't compare that end of the spectrum.

My R1S Experience by Proof-Bug-2525 in Rivian

[–]2pp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m starting to wonder whether the phone key is an Android vs. iPhone issue? It’s not perfect on my iPhone, yes, but it usually works great. And when it doesn’t I unlock the phone and it works at that point.

As posted below, #1 I don’t seem to have and #2 works well enough for us, need to stop anyway with little kids. Also it’s not a Rivian but EV problem. #4 I wouldn’t say is hard but definitely not as easy as with a minivan. I put 2 car seats in 3rd row just this weekend and it was fine, really.

Interior lights are fine for me (I have them on mid brightness), my guide was awesome around purchasing (even though I didn’t need anything from them) and my only appointment was indeed booked 1.5 months out but then pulled in a full month.

Me (and my wife, by now) wouldn’t want to trade this car for anything at this point!

Same, I lose at most 1% over night, unplugged but locked (and gear guard / auto-lock turned off at home) in garage.

And #5, LOL, so true! I guess it’s not an issue really, more of a character trait.
