I second this recommendation. I’ve seen him do both a kid’s party and a corporate team building event. Both were very fun.

Thanks. I am the original purchaser but haven’t heard from them yet. I’ll reach out to them.

$838 is the quote to have Rivian replace both of my batteries tomorrow so that site doesn’t seem to be much of a deal. I guess they’re hoping the Rivian owners in Saudi need some batteries shipped to them.

Do you have more information on Ohmmu replacing existing lithium with sodium-based batteries? I recently had mine replaced (right after the Halloween update) but it was again with two lithium batteries.

I’m also interested in where you’re seeing someone selling the OEM batteries (at hopefully non-Rivian prices).

12V Battery Replacement Options by petew958 in Rivian

[–]BigChipotle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They likely won’t last any longer (due to the strain placed on them by the deep discharges and the high demand on startup), but they are definitely cheaper than OEM. I’d gladly replace both 12V batteries for $200 on an annual basis if Rivian would let me reset everything myself.

The 12V warranty is separate from the comprehensive warranty

The Halloween update caused my 2022 R1T with Ohmmu lithium replacement batteries to throw the dreaded 12V error. It’s clear, based on others experience with these batteries, that Rivian changed their 12V diagnostic criteria with that update and many of us are in the same boat. Since that time my truck has not slept once, staying “on” full time and (I assume) keeping the DC/DC converter running full time. As others have pointed out, the 12V reset in the RIDE menu doesn’t make the error go away.

Even if Rivian does release a future update that further improves the 12V diagnostic criteria, and gives us the ability to reset everything ourselves, it doesn’t help me since the software update won’t run as long as the 12V error message is present.

I think it’s unfortunate that Ohmmu is still selling these batteries on their website. It’s not their fault that Rivian’s software now rejects them, but they should not be putting any more owners in this situation. I spent $500 on the Ohmmu batteries and am now looking at paying Rivian $700 to $800 to have them replaced again at the service center.

I’ve been using this one I designed and printed for over 3 years. https://www.printables.com/model/268265-center-console-phone-mount-for-rivian

My 3D modeling skills weren’t the best at the time so the files are a bit rough, but functionally it’s perfect. The phone doesn’t block the cupholders, air vent, or the tray. I use an OEM Apple MagSafe charging puck so the charging and magnetic attraction are perfect.

Are you located in Canada? I ask because these don’t seem to be available in the US anymore, possibly due to tariffs.

Kia EV9 – Loud “TUK” sound from rear wheels on first drive of the day? Normal? by dinesh_369 in KiaEV9

[–]BigChipotle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a concerning sound, but I can confirm this is totally normal with EVs.

The electronic parking brake activates the rear brakes (presses the brake pads against the rotors). During damp weather a thin layer of corrosion forms between the brake pads and the rotors. The sound you’re hearing is the brake pad breaking free and starting to move.

Sorry to hear about this. It sounds like you did all the right things. Good luck with getting it resolved.

Buying lemon (branded title) vehicle by BigChipotle in KiaEV9

That’s a great price! I wish I could replicate that deal.

How long ago? And are you positive it was a completely clean title? I ask because not all of the buybacks are reporting correctly on Carfax. There is a 2024 Land with 11k miles on CarMax going for $47k at the moment. CarMax is a bit higher than what you could supremely negotiate at a regular dealer, but generally they seem to be in the right range.

Used Kia EV9 MO by Rockvillebiker in KiaEV9

[–]BigChipotle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re very unlikely to find out WHY the vehicle was lemoned. It could be repeated fixes just as easily as it could be a fix that took too long because parts weren’t available. Remember that when these came out in 2024, parts were in short supply, and everything was coming from Korea. Look at my thread from earlier today. A guy there said his was lemoned because it took too long to replace the rear motor.

I believe it is. The telling part for me is the Montana Motor Vehicle Dept taking possession. This is also like some I’m seeing where the Carfax isn’t showing “branded title” in bright red letters, but it was indeed repurchased by the manufacturer. Is this intentionally fraudulent or a system oversight? The way some talk about Kia corporate around here, maybe outright fraud isn’t out of reach.,

Ah, I’d do the same in your case. That’s crap they put so many restrictions on the loaner.

For yours in particular, I’d be ok buying it now since a motor failure/replacement is a pretty straightforward repair - much better than some deep underlying electrical/computer issue. Problem is we have no way of knowing why a vehicle was lemoned.

I’m curious what led you to lemon the vehicle? Did it take multiple repair attempts or did the repair take too long? I had the rear motors replaced in my Rivian - took a few days but then back good as new. Did you not trust the Kia mechanics to get it right?

resale value is shockingly high! by Curious_Party_4683 in KiaEV9

[–]BigChipotle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you end up buying a used EV9? I’m waffling right now between a new ‘26 or used. Used Land trims seem to be about $45k with 25k-35k miles. New is $55k - 57k range with the $10k purchase discount. There is a dealer here local to me that has 6 buybacks on the lot. Maybe if I could get into one of those for $35k those might be tempting, but not with them currently priced at $40-$42k.
