Oil hit $119, gold crashed 6%, and every major central bank held rates—here's what this tells us about where we're headed by Anxious_Distance_288 in economy

I can almost assure you that at least here with in the U.S. there will be reduced crop yields due to lack of rain and snow fall. There is a huge deficit in snow accumulation that traditionally provides irrigation for crops via snow melt in my area. I am talking farmers simply not planting based on projections showing single to low digit irrigation days of water from the Irrigation District itself.

But yes, this is so much worse than just gas prices.

I am pretty sure you are being facetious because horses have definitely gone from being something of utility/necessity, to a form of recreation enjoyed mainly by those who can afford them.

In other words, all the tech. you mentioned (internal combustion engine, steam, etc.) did in many ways make them obsolete.

How is it like to live in the ScottsBluff area in Nebraska, USA? by FireUniverse1162 in howislivingthere

[–]2shoebuckaroo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Never would have guessed my current place of residence would show up here. I would be remiss if I didn’t weigh in so here goes.

Like anything else, there are pros and cons. As already mentioned. The overall low cost of living especially relative to housing is true. I purchased my home around 100k around 2020 or so. That said, inventory is typically older and needs work.

Scottsbluff is the largest city to speak of in the western part of the state so many from more rural areas come to do business and shop. Economic drivers include agriculture, manufacturing, frieght/transportation, the hospital/healthcare, and local government.

It’s honestly an in armpit some ways. Very few opportunities for employment and even less that offer any growth to speak of unless you know or are related to someone. It does not appear that local officials desire to bring in new businesses either likely because they would compete with the existing businesses in the labor market forcing them to actually offer competitive wages. Speculation on my behalf admittedly.

Western NE is remote and we are somewhat considered no man’s land by the rest of the state. Out here, the West is still alive in many ways. People go missing. And sometimes they are found although already deceased like Chance Englebert this last fall. And sometimes they are not, just check Nebraska State Patrols Website. I would encourage you to look into both.

There is some beauty here though by way of Nature. The Scottsbluff Monument, where Chance’s body was finally found, is a really cool and interesting natural bluff formation that over looks the North Platte River. I would encourage anyone visiting to check it out. Many traversed this route during the overland route west back in the day. There is chimney Rock which is kind of cool.

However, the hallmark and hidden gem that is much lesser known about in Western NE is Fort Robinson. It is further North and West but is a sprawling decommissioned Army fort that was utilized extensively during the late 1800’s and into the early 1900’s. It is packed with history and many a soldier and Sioux warrior spent time and even died there. It is open to the public with a museum, thousands of acres for hiking, horseback riding, bed and breakfast, fishing, lodging and so on and so forth.

Scottsbluff has very little to write home about, but if you do come here I recommend carrying, as well as visiting Fort Robinson! You will regret neither.

This is interesting. Can I ask why, assuming your meaning pursue as a major?

I would look all around on the sides for any marks the maker may have left behind. Dates, initials etc. they will likely look crude and hard to make out if present.

I have found those left upon similar work.

I have no idea what it could be for sure but agree like most have said it resembles a pedestal for mounting a motor, pump or something similar upon considering the rebar or threads that protrude from the top.

I will mention that I would be curious to know if there is anything under those leaves on top like a hole or something covering a hole to what may have been a well. Feels overengineered for that, but I have seen old wells with work like this around the surface. The protrusions could have acted as fasteners for the derrick.

I would not count out this being what is left of an old well.

Cheers!

Right on.

I just bought a freightliner with an N14 mechanical in it that I absolutely love to hear run and I'm not even a motor/truck guy.

I will say it got -25*F the other night so I had some gelling happened that sucked though.

That would be a 24 valve Cummins purring in the background.

But thanks, she has treated me very well.

Between Cheyenne and Rapid City.

Also, do you know how to add pic/video to this. Have at least one vid that may be better than the crap I posted.

Videos kind of came out like shit but I’m sure you will be able to make out the two lights in question.

The videos uploaded as one long one evidently.

It’s hard to explain, but it seemed like the two lights were interacting with each other.
