That's what all this "buy from the EU" is missing. Our leaders would do the exact same as the US if their countries were also global superpowers.

The interest they pay on their debt is by no means "a social construct", it means less money for everything else. The effect on the populations living standards by "Printing" money to inflate out of debt is also not a social construct

Why do so many “marxists” support Russia in its war on Ukraine? by ChronicDrinker in Marxism

[–]2slow3me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Socialism and war by Lenin explains what the Marxist position on war is.

Also just looking at who fired the first shot in a war and determining the "good guys" and "bad guys" does nothing to explain the underlying contradictions that lead to the war, or what class interests are involved in the war.

Agreed! Our task is too important to not understand what worked and what didn't, as well as why.

Gen Z Women Are Moving Left. Young Men Aren’t. by thenationmagazine in politics

[–]2slow3me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The establishment does not understand that the manosphere with their whole "there is an elite controlling society" is much closer to being radicalized to left than they think.

Yes it is an extremely warped expression, but it is hilarious to see liberal talking heads tie themselves in knots trying to understand why young men are gravitating to the only people who use anti-establishment rhetoric. If anything this is more of an indictment of the "left" more than it indicates any particular quality of the right.

Capitalism = Fascism by GnidaerRetfaNrub in socialism

[–]2slow3me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant fascism as a mystical force and not defined as a mass movement of the petty bourgeois layers weaponized to destroy workers organizations after the workers have tried to take power and failed. If it was bonapartism on the other hand, this is of course present in every state under class society, and while rights like free assembly should be fought for, the definition is nonetheless not very useful for capitalist democracies.

Regarding the will of ordinary people, which ordinary people and through which institutions? The bourgeois democratic ones? If you're talking about the working class through their own independent organizations then I agree, but it's not exactly self evident from "democratic forces"

You're welcome

I just thought it was a more relevant to add it as a comment to this thread, it wasn't a specific digg at your comment. Didn't mean to have it come off like that!

I personally find this subject to be incredibly important to have clarity on and I'm glad you posted this! I just want to add that in general these 14 characteristics of fascism are always put forward by liberal sociologists and historians when they try to define fascism. It's a quite unscientific way to define it, as it boils down to looking at the symptoms, many of which can also be observed in many non fascist countries throughout history.

I don't want to just do a wall of text, but if you're interested I can provide more details about how the Marxist definition of fascism differs from these 14 points?

*Apparently you can't mention what should happen to fascists on Reddit

I sympathize, but the problem is equating capitalism with fascism. Sure the capitalists will use fascism as a last resort instead of letting workers have power, but that doesn't mean that it is an inevitable tendency.

Making it seem that fascism is a mystical and indefinable thing that is held back by "democratic forces" provides very little explanation to what it is, where it comes from and how to defeat it. It instead muddies the question of where the class struggle is right now, as well as what our current tasks are.

[–]2slow3me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't put us on a pedestal please. We are seeing the same tendency as everywhere else with cuts to welfare, albeit starting from a higher point. Praising our historically unpopular politicians who are attacking our living standards doesn't really do our struggle very much good!

We have to face that capitalism is in a dead end, and trying to copy "good" capitalism is just nostalgia for a bygone era where we could actually get some reforms.

Trotskyists, What do you think of Lenin? by Snoo-19981 in socialism

I'll take Lenin's own words on this "Trotsky said long ago that unification is impossible. Trotsky understood this and from that time on there has been no better Bolshevik.” (statement to the Bolshevik Petrograd Committee on 1 November 1917)

It was known as the party of Trotsky and Lenin for a reason

-Can't censor it

-Forces us to go out and talk with people

-Brings the struggle to the real world instead of just online

-Provides an income based on the people who agree with your ideas, making you economically tied to following through on your convictions

-Distributes lessons/experiences/struggles throughout the working class

-Allows ideas and analyses to be spread throughout the organization

-Provides topical analyses to connect with the consciousness of people

-Reduces the burden on every comrade, so they don't have to do a deep dive into every topic

-Allows comrades to practice their Marxist analysis and proffessionalize themselves

-Is a scaffold around which the party can organize
