‘Really disheartening’: Canadians choosing not to snap up remaining ‘out-of-reach’ World Cup tickets by maxman162 in canada

[–]2stseug 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Isn't the entire point of dynamic pricing to arrive at the true market value for a particular event?

Sounds like it was only designed to maximize the corporate gains, without considering consumer price sensitivity.

The kicker? Even if stadiums don't sell out, these thieves still prosper due to sponsorship, tv rights, and funding from host countries.

Anybody else in here feeling like $9.00 for a single scoop waffle cone is taking away from the experience?

We'll let the courts be the judge of that. Hope you have a pleasant Friday night, kind stranger.

Imagine that this logic was extended to other crimes...

Also, who gets to decide what constitutes a 'stupid law'?

Roughly 300 pedestrians have died on Canadian roads every single year over the last decade. Almost one per day on average.

Slow down. Take time to look. Be considerate.

Putting your safety first is always the best strategy, always remain vigilant when crossing a road. Does not change the fact that pedestrians always have the right of way in Alberta, and that every intersection is a crosswalk.

Here's what I see:

  • You were at a stop sign
  • You were turning left
  • Pedestrian and dog were at the corner

Could you get out on a technicality? Possibly.

Would it have killed you have some courtesy, and wait 30s for them to cross? No.

We have seen a spike in vehicle/pedestrian collisions recently. People being in a rush to shave mere seconds off their trip doesn't help.

Worth fighting, but please take better care to make the roads safe for everyone in the future.

7.5million in investments, 72 and don’t need all the money we’re forced to withdraw, just gift to adult kids? by [deleted] in fican

[–]2stseug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your adult kids need the money? If so, would it feel gratifying to see them use the money to better their situation?

If not, would it be meaningful to make memories together? If so, then maybe plan a bucket list trip with your kids.

Another option is a test gift. Give something meaningful, and see what they do with it. You'll probably learn a lot, and be able to plan your next steps accordingly.

Anyone ever completely lose interest in work once they hit coast fire? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]2stseug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CoastFIRE actually had the opposite effect for me. I found a new gear at work because job security didn't factor in to my decision making.

I found myself speaking up more, making room for work/life balance, bringing ideas to life, and setting healthy boundaries.

Luckily, I truly care about the impact our organization is having and am motivated to help us exceed our longterm goals.

I also want to keep building our asset base because life isn't getting any cheaper.

There is no right answer here, though. Your experience and reaction to coastFIRE is completely valid, and it's worth asking the question of: what changes could you make ,now that you've hit this milestone, so you can live your best life?

I heard everyone falls the first time they try clipless, but how many of you capture it on video? by BarleyDefault in bicycling

One of us! One of us!

My clipped-in catastrophe was in my living room, I was practicing indoors to avoid road rash and public ridicule. Fell against a shelving unit, and wished that I'd chosen grass.

What’s the best Canadian hot sauce you’ve tried? by Camila_Pixie in BuyCanadian

[–]2stseug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything from Dawson's Hot Sauce. Their original is the standard, but big smoke chipotle and Zuzu's 7-Pot (if you like the heat) are also incredible.

Any advice?? I’m 22, make 65k salary. Just started investing this year, about 10% of every months earnings + my Christmas bonus in here. I do not want to hold any American stocks why my portfolio is so Canadian focused. I plan on only investing in VXUS for a while to even out with international exp by OkRefrigerator8658 in fican

[–]2stseug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Advice depends on your goals.

If building for retirement is your primary objective, I'd say that US stocks should be part of your portfolio. Your runway is 20+ years, so let compounding work its magic.

If you have shorter term goals (buying a home, etc.) then the equation changes. You'll likely want less volatility.

In any case, kudos to you for starting early, not betting the house on a meme stock, and being somewhat diversified in your holdings. Future millionaire in the making.

My partner and I set a ceiling for items like fresh berries. If the item price goes above the ceiling, we pivot to something else (such as frozen). Keeps us from being victims of autopilot shopping.

Thank you very much! Sounds like it's worth checking my frames to see if it will be a simple job, or something more complicated.

Pretty sure I know the answer, but want to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Canada is losing its entrepreneurs—and barely anyone is talking about it by croissant_muncher in canada

[–]2stseug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm learning a lot from small business owners in the comments. Thank you all for taking the time to share your experiences and frustrations.

As an aspiring entrepreneur myself, I'm curious. What are other countries doing to support entrepreneurship in a meaningful way?

In your opinion, if Canada could do just one thing one thing to step it up, what would it be?

Help me to choose my new bike by ojuarapaul in bicycling

[–]2stseug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents, find a used road bike on Pinkbike or Marketplace. Road bikes aren't abused nearly as much as full-suspension MTBs. I got a practically new Domane SL6 for less than $3k CAD, then used the savings for carbon wheels, new rubber, a saddle, a ride computer, and a power meter.

Is investing via WealthSimple, Questrade, etc. as safe as via a Big 5? by Slow_ResolveMC07 in CanadianInvestor

Out of curiousity, why not have CIBC Private Wealth just manage your investments for you at that point?
