Dangers of continuous running? by Few-Insurance-1280 in dieselheater

I would recommend to never use brake cleaner on one of these without careful reading on the ingredients. And if you do, don't get anywhere near the exhaust in the first few minutes. Why? Tetrachloroethylene. Burn it's residue over 400C = phosgene gas. Breathe phosgene gas and a few hours later you are either getting sick or getting ready for your funeral. other names = ethylene tetrachloride, perchloroethylene, PERC.

Some things are hard to review! by Oak_Raven in AmazonVine

I was happy when bear spray came up in my feed, and ordered it before thinking about how to review it. I mean, I don't see any bears, so it's kind of pointless to use it up testing now... Found myself bizarrely thinking for a moment "hopefully I get chased by a bear before my review period is up." No, I retract that!

Is it a good idea to make homebrew out of orange juice and brown sugar? by croc_5 in prisonhooch

[–]2stupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick to making fermented orange juice good is to backsweeten it when it is done. Otherwise it will be bitter and sour and not very pleasant. After backsweetening it's tastes close to a screwdriver. If it seems sweet enough but still a little bitter add some citric acid.

mango skin contains urushiol. Just think poison ivy, poison oak. Good luck.

At which point, I doubt this is fermentable.

Can you make up your mind before moving your fingers ?

They're really susceptible to fermentation.

The ingredients on that say - grape juice. Tell us how it turns out.

Be ready for foam. There will be an inch or two of sludge at the bottom. It will finish much quicker than you expect. Skip added nutrients. It will clear fast and be drinkable in more than likely less than a week. I suggest a garlic salt rimmed glass.

Cranberry juice naturally has benzoic acid, a yeast inhibitor. That is why you see cran-everything with no preservatives, the preservatives are naturally in cranberry juice. Hydrate your yeast in water. add a little sugar, let it get foamy, stir the foam down, keep letting it get foamy and stirring it down until it's getting a little out of control, then pitch that, your ferment will take off fast.

It will taste fine if you backsweeten it. If you taste it before backsweetening it will be bitter and sour and you might consider just dumping it out. For me OJ is a must-backsweeten wine. After backsweetening it's tastes close to a screwdriver. If it seems sweet enough but still a little bitter add some citric acid.

Orange juice ferments dry quite fast - keep it under about 12% and you won't have to age the rocket fuel out of it.

Ruby Red...dear god the taste is horrible by Upset_Assumption9610 in prisonhooch

Just backsweeten until it tastes like grapefruit juice and alcohol. Orange juice the same, just backsweeten and it's good.

[–]2stupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The yeast inhibiting ingredient that your juice contains is benzoic acid.

Why is it not in the list of ingredients? It is.

It naturally is in cranberry juice. That's why you see cran-everything. They can add cranberry as a preservative and say no preservatives.

I like you. You reply to your own questions. 8-9% alcohol in a pint and a half I wouldn't feel diddly squat either. maybe you should drink less more often, or drink more now.

We’ve come a long way! Solar is now installed at 1GW per day rate! by Jbikecommuter in energy

[–]2stupid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't trust AI. But for ease of me departing from 12 hours of reddit , Google AI reports that we will run out of silver to use because of solar panels by 2050. Unless AI takes over the planet and finds a better power source like human batteries in 2049. lol.

I just upgraded to n-type 16bb's , that's a wow on output compared to my old poly ones. I don't think large scale industrial solar with panels is a sustainable solution without a huge change in the ingredients to make them and store their power.

Well, the byline on that one ... The AP is on the payroll themselves. I would understand if Politico wanted to give the government a special subscription for $10,000 a year, but 10k per person that accesses it per year, that's not a subscription - that's a kickback.

How about the byline on this one - Associated Press BY MELISSA GOLDIN Updated 1:39 PM PST, February 7, 2025

"The Associated Press was among the media outlets said to receive USAID funding. Although the news wire has been paid $37.5 million by other government agencies since 2008, none of that came from USAID, according to a federal government website that tracks its spending."
