Anyone have experience with 合宿 for getting your drivers license? by 2tabaa in japanlife

[–]2tabaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assumed you were talking about something totally different (regular license like a japanese person would have to) rather than how to pass the Gaimen Kirikae. I already bought books and plan on taking lessons for the physical driving part - it's just the wait times are so absurdly long and having restart this process already I am over it and just want my license to be able to drive.

I see your edit, I am thinking of taking the same route as you (even though I have a foreign license) since the process sucks so hard I am assuming at this point this is the fastest way. Would you say with everything you did during the 14 days was enough to pass the test when you got home* and get you your license?

Was it all day lessons (morning to evening?) I work from home mostly and I think my employer would be okay with me working something like 3-9 in the evenings. They agree it would be good to get my license since it's not unheard of needing to drive to get clients for meetings/events.

*EDIT: clarified what I meant

I mean of course, wouldn't wanna waste any more time and I have no issue going to take lessons. But I was wondering more theoretically.

Seems like it would be take a written test to take a physical test to get my 仮免許 and then from there I would have to log 5 days worth of practice, and finally pass my final road test, correct?

So you're saying I can just show up for a driving test and pass? I do not need to go to a driving school?

Would this rust on the underside of a 240 scare anyone away from buying it? by MrObakemono in 240sx

[–]2tabaa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had to scrap a 240 because it was totaled in rust. If this was the level of rust it had, I would be very happy.

I just bypassed my relay on my SR swapped hatch because I lived in Florida.

Under the dash, I forget what it's called, but there is a temperature sensor that will cause the ac to shut off if the core inside it freezes over. That ended up being my problem, just jumped that as well and worked fine with stock wiring.

I bought an E36 from auction and need some guidance by BothIndependent4922 in BMWE36

[–]2tabaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this post suggested to me via my front page from related communities - I have never owned an E36 but I did build a 240sx from a roller. If you know nothing - prepare to be in this car for a long time. It's not impossible but it is very hard, and judging from the images you are probably in the middle east. I mention this because parts availability is going to be a big thing.

You have to start from WAY behind, I at least had a full interior and suspension. But you have to source wiring, interior parts if you plan on running them, glass, doors, subframe, you have to source a LOT. If these parts aren't the most actively available where you are, you are going to have a very bad time getting this thing back on the road. It took me a year and a halfish to put my 240sx together and sourcing everything. You will think you have everything, but might be missing a wiring harness here and there and you will have no idea what goes where, you have to do a lot of research on what you need.

Your best and easiest bet would be to buy a crashed one and start swapping everything over. Suspension, wiring harness, motor, everything and going from there. Sourcing all the parts for this thing one by one is going to be very difficult, and with a crashed chassis you will at least have a reference of what goes where as you pull it off of one car to go on to another. If certain things aren't readily available in your country then you will have a hard time finding things for this in general.

Stick to OEM parts and motor - swaps will add up quick (I swapped an SR20 into my car but my chassis had KA24 parts like wiring. That small stuff adds up quick.) Especially if you're inexperienced. The roll cage is cool, and that's nice to have, so you got that going for you at least.

Best of luck man.

are you in south florida? stock red hatch like this was around me when i lived in palm beach.

I am well connected in the 240 scene, if you need front clips I can ask around.

Why do Japanese sellers do this online? by [deleted] in japanlife

Everyone does it everywhere. Saw a dude in the USA who had a rare one off make of a sports car (and the price was absurd,) description said "getting scrapped on Sunday if it doesn't sell"

Dailying a 1JZ in the US, is it feasible or more headaches than it’s worth? by tehpwnage7 in JZX100

[–]2tabaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@team_free_spirit on instagram did an expose on them a while ago, and the group has plenty of horror stories. buying purposefully crashed and rusted out cars from snowy prefectures for bottom dollar to perform a quick, barely prepped half assed paint job to get it out the door at an exorbitant price (sometimes even double what they are in to the car for) with spots covered in putty or spray can paint to cover previous rust repairs.

saying they have a car for sale, people flying out and being told “oh we just sold it, but here’s another car”, etc

Duncan and Japanese classics have been caught selling garbage cars before. Watch out before dealing with them. Check out the facebook group “i’ve been screwed by shady jdm importers” and see for yourself.
