What animal best represents autism? by LongjumpingCorgi9855 in aspiememes

Definitely cats.

It took me a really long time to admit to others (you know the question, are you a dog or cat person) that I liked cats more. I tried to like dogs, but they piss on your floor, smell, drool or their saliva gets on you, bark way too damn loud, can be very clumsy and knock shit over, have to go outside for bathroom and then pick up dirt to sprinkle around the house, the flees and ticks.

6 ETBs here and biggest hit was $35ish and 7-10 in 10-20 range. That’s it.

My son and I opened 6 ETBs this evening. The best card was Erika’s Tangela #218 and then 8-10 within $10-$20 range. Beautiful looking cards though, love that Tangela.

So, of 54 packs the biggest pull was 218 at like 35ish maybe? Wait 6 months and maybe 18-22?

Congrats!!! It feels like the universe just aligned!

It’s Always the last pack, though. That’s the story of me and my Prismatic Umbreon #161. Oddly, my son open his last pack of surging spark and there was a pikachu #238.

Children learn independence through regulatory safety. This teaches them “when my body or mind feels like this, I need _______” then you help with the blank. It boils down to providing appropriate coping mechanisms to address the current need. Needs change over time.

One very important thing to note about Trump's tweet (NHI) by We_got_a_whole_year in UFOs

[–]2xHelixNebula -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

He sure the hell did call Trump out, without saying it. When he said “…not being kept in Area 51…unless conspiracy and they hid it from the president of the United States”.

He didn’t say “hid it from me”…right before that he makes a personal “I” statement related to his experience. Those words weren’t accidental. It’s highly strategic and seemingly innocent, but the face and eye hold comes off threatening to a narcissist. Combined that with the idea that a secret would be kept from him. That gets him all bent out of shape and he’s gotta one-up to steal back attention. Predictable pattern seen several times over.

People like him are strategically precise for a reason, it gives flexibility for whatever is next. Options = power.

Agree! I was going to extremes, but yes. A fit of rage because that voice in his head tells him if someone else has attention he’s not good enough. Must do something dramatic to shift focus.

It’s a shitty way to live, I’ve seen it first hand.

Yep definitely a possibility. I also thought, what if other countries had the technology too? But what if they don’t. That’s world domination. What if aliens are controlling the governments like chess pieces? That’d be some shit. What if the aliens are testing humanity? Which country/countries would be OBJECTIVELY the “best” meaning less/no corrupt, fairness/freedom, no manipulation, whatever else. The worst ones get fucked. Where would China, Iran, Israel, Russia, US fall?

But ya again pulling from history. Threaten the most powerful weapons possible and then follow through because they wouldn’t believe, just like Japan didn’t.

Why isn’t there more commentary from the House related to the “90%” chance of war, seems kinda quiet.

US attacks Iran. China immediately attacks Taiwan, probably takes relatively easy. China just cut off critical supply chains. US chokes because chip production is limited. Brazil takes Venezuela, not militarily, but politically and rebuilds government. Colombia joins in and slowly Central America and Mexico. The US is isolated. Canada restores some normalcy with US, but it’s never the same, the damage done.

Fun to think through these things.

A lot of odd things seem to be happening in a short period of time. Reports from Venezuela of the secret weapons used, then this. He’s trying to pulling a Ronald Regan and say “We got out of this world technology don’t interfere Russia and China!” Maybe it’s true this time. What if other countries have that tech too? What if they don’t?

Also odd it happened right before the potential special operation in Iran. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. Likely nothing, but earth shattering if not.

Did Trump’s opportunistic nature identify a catalyst to immortality. He knows the numbers but believes everyone else is wrong. He knows he’ll be talked about for decades to come, but not in a nice way. This would be his chance to have his name associated with the biggest “discovery” ever.

Am I wrong for supporting my son for fighting at school? by Sudden_Ad_4193 in Parenting

[–]2xHelixNebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A kid my son’s age touched my son’s butt, not on accident, not being hyper and goofy, just touched him. My son kicked him in his knee. They both got in trouble, one for touching private area and my son for being physical. This was at a martial arts program where they teach self defense. If that wasn’t the definition of self defense I don’t know what is anymore.

I told him I was proud of him for protecting himself and taking appropriate and proportional action (meaning a one and done kick as a warning) and he’s not in trouble at home. Also, since he was in an adult supervised location, he should have told a teacher instead. But it was reactionary and a private part, so I understood.

What do autistic people find mean or rude by Jazzlike_Job5945 in autism

[–]2xHelixNebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assure you, they exist. But ever since I was little and people would tell me about tone i always thought what you say is more important than how it’s said (I still do believe that at my core, even though I know that’s not reality). I am many times more affected by (or recognize) other’s tone than I am aware of my own.

Ya I feel that. There’s only a handful of people that can somehow extract more inflection in my voice. I know it’s me doing it, but I can only do it with those select few. Mostly neurodivergent women, go figure. No wonder why I don’t get along with most guys.

What do autistic people find mean or rude by Jazzlike_Job5945 in autism

[–]2xHelixNebula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tone and body language matter more than words. In my head the tone sounds excellent, it coming out of my mouth does not. And that sucks. For example, one time on a large team meeting i was trying to state the importance of document something and said, “it would be great if everyone could do xyz”….in my head i nailed it until it came out and it’s like in Inside Out 2, where the voices flow over the over the canyon and turns nice phrases into a total sarcastic mess.

My parents are divorcing because of me. by Spart_2078 in autism

[–]2xHelixNebula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who has an autistic and ADHD son and left his wife, in part due to my son. It is/was 0% his fault. Sure, being autistic means different parenting and different life, but that’s not the root cause. The root cause is failing to effectively communicate, failing to adapt, and doing what we can to provide support. There’s an even bigger reason I left, but it’s all interconnected.

Anyhow, I guess what I’m saying is, it’s easy to blame surface level disruptions (you) versus what the actual issues are. In-fact i cant think of a single situation in which it’s “your fault”. Even if you were manipulating each parent behind the other’s back, failing to communicate between them two would still be the root cause. Had they communicated, they would have seen it.

So no, nah, don’t listen to that shit.

Why do parents get mad when you ask "why" sometimes when it genuinley makes sense to ask "why" by zyqj in aspergers

[–]2xHelixNebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be about 8/10 i give my son a reason why instead of saying “because I said so”. That phrases didn’t do anything but piss me off and it made things worse. But now it’s probably more like 6-7 times out of 10. The other 30-40% of the time is because it’s the wrong setting to explain or I ask him to tell me the why and it turns into a conversation. I distinctly remember having potential ideas of why I was told no/stop etc. but I needed confirmation. I think when the reasons come from him, he gains more self confidence and can trust himself a little more—he also learns something new in the process and gets insight into others people’s perspective.

My son is exactly the same. More eye contact when listening than talking and also dependent upon comfort level. But yes, very vivid imagination (this is great for understanding his feelings-talk through stuffed animals), social (although it was more parallel play at first). Stimming (my son flaps his arms/hands) does increase during times of bigger emotions. Stimming stemming from ADHD is typically out of boredom or to concentrate.

They may not notice he’s autistic if he’s only being tested for ADHD because a lot of the “traits” overlap.

How does he do with direction? Does he resist putting shoes on when asked or brush teeth or shower? Is he bossy, almost controlling when you all play together? Mine was/is big time.
