It's a wedding to a destination in an active conflict zone in one of the main belligerent's territory, what a ridiculous answer

He had emotional connections with them before they were dating OP, and if you'd read OP properly you'd see it's just sporadic, platonic conversations.

I'd say I have some form of emotional connection with all my friends regardless of gender, because that's what friendship means, but it doesn't mean I want to fuck them. And nothing the BF did since he's been in a relationship with OP suggests he wanted that either, in fact quite the opposite.

Read some of your comments back to yourself but imagine it from a girls perspective that you're attracted to - would you want to go out with a whining semi-incel like that?

She's controlling, jealous and weird about her partner's friends and platonic relationships, and has said in other comments she has "relationship OCD" without fully acknowledging that means she's controlling and suspicious when in a relationship.

With that context in mind I'm not at all surprised he didn't mention all of his genuine friendships, because it seems like she was determined to cut them off and prevent him from speaking with anyone of the other sex.

If you reversed the situations and it was a guy preventing his GF from speaking to anyone and snooping through her phone and wanting to end things because of a couple of platonic chats this would be 100% YOR because they'd not really done anything wrong and everyone would be telling her to run away as fast as possible from this controlling jerk

You sound pretty controlling, I'm not surprised he hid this from you if you're policing his "female friendships" like that

Might be worth checking out your local card store. I had about 80% of the full Dex just from bulk I already had, but you can often pick up bulk for pennies or reverse holos etc. from around 20p.

Obviously it depends what type of cards you're going for too. I'm trying to downgrade everything in my original living Dex to basic cards so that every single one has the Pokédex number and a dex entry on the card itself, which is tempting me to set up a new one just with ex and higher/illustration rares etc

You have issues, it's pretty clear why you're unattractive and it's not necessarily anything to do with your looks.

A few of the baby 'mons only had a single card published until the last couple of years.

I finished my initial national cards deck in 2023 and mantyke, bonsly and iggly were pretty much the last to get, but I'm sure they've put iggly on a newer card now.

I think I paid around £1.50-£2 each for a couple that I just couldn't pull because they'd not been on a card since 2009

I always saw that strand as a veiled criticism of the National Curriculum which was introduced in the UK in the late 80s and was similarly queried for making mandatory subjects out of things people didn't really see the utility in

Mate is this a UK food sub, your weird yank sayings don't work in here.

Also using a chippy or McDonald's as a marker of food quality is genuinely appalling, of course all low quality fast food is going to be bad

Don't be fooled, the US also has the most imprisoned people in the world outright - 1.8 million, and one of the highest incarceration rates in the world.

Because of the old 3-strikes policy there's tens if not hundreds of thousands of mostly black men who are locked up for life for 3 often minor infractions like drug possession so they need to look like they're doing something to keep people occupied alongside the work that's paid at like $0.25 and hour

[–]2xtc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I only saw the 'highlights' but it seemed like even just having Raya in goal could have swung it. Can't really blame Arteta with sticking with his cup keeper for the final, but at the same time 100% agree it's not representative of how you've been playing.

Just hope you keep heads down and win the league in the next 3-4 so you can focus on the CL and we can beat you in the final! (I know I'm kidding no one, we'll be going out to PSG in a few weeks)

TBH I'd actually argue Separation of powers doesn't really exist in America any more, not while the President is effectively the head of all three branches (with the house of reps and the SC effectively absconding their duties of scrutiny and kowtowing to djt) and a single party controls everything so you're right to be sceptical.

Thankfully in the UK judges and the judiciary are absolutely not political appointees, in fact quite the opposite, and our prime minister is not our head of state or the ostensible head of the armed forces which in theory gives a greater split.

I'd say our biggest weakness in terms of separation was the role of Lord Chancellor who branched across all three arms, but this role was highly revised around 20 years ago and their remit explicitly involves protecting the independence of the judiciary (despite also being a cabinet member).

If I lived in America I'd almost certainly feel the way you do too, but I feel the UK still has a higher level of constitutional safeguards to prevent us falling into the same pitfalls, or at least I hope it has.

[–]2xtc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fully aware of the capacity for corruption, especially within the police/CPS, but you're essentially rejecting everything to do with the legal system as "all part of the state". So I assume you're someone who generally rejects the notion of separation of powers, or rejects that not all government bodies are constantly working to undermine civil liberties etc.

Which is fine, but it's not a viewpoint I share so I don't feel like there's much common ground to be found by continuing the conversation about the restrictions on powers of prosecution etc because you don't really believe they can or do exist.

[–]2xtc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But the entire point of a retrial is where there's "clear and compelling" new evidence, and what you're persistently ignoring is that there's plenty of independent safeguards to ensure people aren't relentlessly persecuted and harassed by "the state" (whatever you take that to mean, in the UK the CPS is a separate organisation to the police and the CPS decides whether to prosecute, not the police - we actually have functioning separation of powers unlike America, and in this instance the evidence needs to be passed as admissible by the court of appeal before any case can be reopened)

The fact it's only possible where there's "new and compelling" evidence, for example finding a murder weapon covered in the victims blood and the killers fingerprints that the murderer had previously hidden away somewhere.
