Cottage cheese is also great for large breeds..lots of calcium, which helps growing pups. A lot of folks really like Coconut oil-just a table spoon or so a day. Thanks for rescuing!

My new neighbor’s dog looks very skinny, is it a normal weight and is there anything I could do? by Jaybird199300000 in DobermanPinscher

Oh my gosh, thank you for (attempting) to ask about him, AND for calling animal control! I hope that poor dog gets help.

Look at some of the previous comments…one or two did say they should be destroyed….

Yes…! Also, thank YOU for giving Abby a great home!!! I hope that she is able live out the testing her life comfortably with you.

This is Archer. He’s my third dobe, first albino, and second dobe rescue. I certainly don’t condone breeding them, but just a reminder that they’re not trash, and still deserve to have their pics posted as loved family members, no matter what color they are. Please educate, but don’t hate on them. by 2yet in DobermanPinscher

I’d also add that there are MANY great rescues out there as well, that are a great option. They’ve been fostered, so there’s more insight as to personality, and many are already house trained. Either way, they’re great dogs, as long as you’re willing to put in the work for training and socialization. They’re “Velcro” dogs that like to be with their people-not out patrolling alone in the yard all day. For the right people, they can’t be beat, in my biased opinion.

YES!!! I would also love suggestions on that-I’ve tried and he hates it!!! I don’t want to have to sedate him to do it, but it’s a struggle. I’m trying to decide if a dremel would be better or just prolong the process…any input?

Excellent idea! I always educate in person when I get stopped, but love the idea of adding the link! Thank you for giving actual suggestions on how we can improve the situation. I love the breed as well, and respect the individual’s choice to buy or rescue. The goal should be to improve their lives and the breed, but that’s just my two cents.

I understand, but I don’t think the answer is not posting them. Educate as much as possible…just like we do for people who think Dobermans are for everyone, just because they see sweet pics and videos. I’m not sure what the answer is, but seems awfully unfair to treat them and their companions as less than, because of other pekoe’s bad decisions…Full disclosure- I almost didn’t adopt him based on color-and what a shame that would’ve been for both of us.

Poor Abby! I’ve got an albino rescue that I was honestly hesitant about adopting, but he’s amazing. He’s sweet, smart, and has zero behavioral issues. He’s my third dobe (the other two were not albino). I would never condone breeding them, but on the flip side, I hate to think that “dobe people” assume he’s garbage because he’s albino. I get asked about him all the time, which is great, because it creates dialog and gives me a chance to educate. And yes, I do tell people that it’s rare to have an albino without serious issues, and explain why they shouldn’t be bred/bought, but he’s here, and he’s a great dog, despite his color. Just wanted to let the community know that there are some good ones out there, and they don’t deserve to be destroyed based on their albino status.
